Ray Davies hit the proverbial nail on the head when he wrote the Kinks song ""Celluloid Heroes:"" You can see all the stars as walk down Hollywood Boulevard/Some that you recognize/Some that you've hardly even heard of/People who worked and suffered and struggled for fame/Some who succeeded and some who suffered in vain."" Yep, that about says it. For every Greta Garbo there's a Joe Schmo. But regardless of who you actually see out there on the streets of Hollywood, it's the adventure of walking along and watching people, and watching people watching you. It's a timeless L.A. thing to do, whether you're a tourist or a native. And the Hollywood and Vine area is much nicer and safer than it was even a couple years ago. Best of all, it's 100% free (well, unless you've got to pay for parking).
