We have a family tradition of traveling to the shore via the Cape-May Lewes Ferry. It's a great break from driving, pretty reasonable prices to get across and it's not far at all from the ferry landing to the areas people go to vacation.
I think riding on the ferry makes the trip that much more enjoyable for our kids as well, and it helps them to gear up for a great time as well as leave vacation with a bang.
