Jeff B. responded to a cooling problem. He tested the system and found no identifiable problems. Compressor, evaporator, and condenser were all operating within specifications. The furnace fan was operating within amperage requirements. He could not identify why there had been a problem delivering cool air.
A few hours later the system again failed to deliver cool air.
Jeff returned and discovered that the fan motor bearings had seized up. He diagnosed that this had been the problem the first time and that having the system off for several days before his first visit had allowed the fan motor bearings to free up sufficiently to run normally while he was there the first time.
He had a replacement motor on his truck and quickly replaced the failed one.
I cannot praise Jeff too highly for his competence and knowledge of HVAC systems despite the initial failure. Under the circumstances, no one could have picked up on the bad bearings in the fan motor.
