I recently visited relatives in Rome and went to the Savoy for the first time. The service was very good and the food was excellent. It is self-consciously high ending dining. The atmosphere is relaxed - college pennants on the walls and photos of local characters. (I may be wrong, but I did not see a pennant for University of Buffalo). The food is very well prepared and better than one could produce at home. Rome and most places in up-state NY do not lend themselves to elaborate rituals and presentation. Exceptional food is more important. I found the Savoy to be a very pleasant surprise.
