Food doesn 9/12/2011

As employee of Bank of America this restaurant offers a discount which much more like cheating ,because there is no clue about limitation before payment. So be aware if you want to order coupons from discount & benefit program, first call them to know about tons of limitations. Also you have to pay %20 mandatory tips for below average services. However the food quality is good if is not cold. But I was expecting something different for the price -$ 100 for two without drink- I never recommend this restaurant. more

What is happening to this Restaurant?? 8/12/2011

I have enjoyed this restaurant for years and was looking forward to enjoying a wonderful lunch here. Two things were a great disappointment: First, When I asked where the shrimp came from I was finally told Thailand -- They say freshest seafood in Charlotte ---- I think not. And then when I could not tolerate the rancid taste of a soup I was informed that the chef and waiter had deemed the soup delicious and that it was probably that I did not appreciate the Thai taste of curry, etc. Please do not insult the customer when there is a complaint! Finally, I tried to contact the management of Zebra through the website but no contact information gave me the opportunity to make a complaint to management through email. It was a true disappointment to be treated to rudely at one of my favorite restaurants. more

Very Special Dining Experience 5/14/2011

This was our first visit and it exceeded our expectations. Our server treated us as special guests. He patiently but enthusiastically explained the menu, and throughout the course of our dinner ensured that we enjoyed each course. We had two fish entrees; swordfish and Dover sole. The swordfish was topped with poached lobster to create a rich and sweet contrast to the swordfish. This was served on a bed of ratatouille to create a finely balanced array of tastes and textures. The almond encrusted Dover sole was also a delicate delight! And don't leave without experiencing the souffle of the day and coffee! Exquisite! more

Horrendous Service 4/17/2011

I bought a Groupon for this restaurant and couldn't wait to go there. I brought 2 friends with me and we were all excited to have an excellent meal. When walking up to the restaurant we saw 2 chefs walking out, but it really didn't register with us that this was going to be a problem. After being seated it took 15 minutes for our waiter to find us and take a drink order. It took him another 30 minutes to come back and take our order AND we had to ask him what the specials were, he never offered to tell us. The restaurant ran out of bread rolls by 7:30P. The waiter also came back and told us they had run out of the special fish for the evening and also had no lobster. We re-ordered. The table next to us told us they had waited an hour for their main course and when it arrived it was cold! Sure enough, when our main courses arrived the duck was cold, the beef was a piece of shoe leather after being asked to cook it as rare as possible. And finding the waiter all night long was always like being on a scavenger hunt. Fortunately we spoke to the manager and he confessed 2 chefs quit that evening and he wound up comping our meal. It'll be a long time before I venture back into this place - but I still have the Groupon I did pay for! more

Amazing cuisine and ambiance 3/16/2011

We were greeted with class and elegance. I would expect nothing less from this fine establishment. When coming in the door the aroma was mouthwatering. This was my third time at Zebra's. I find the visit to Zebra?s an experience that?s best shared with a fine date. This is important to me as my date was impressed by the experience. This truly helped that make the night memorable. The food was mighty tasty to enhance the overall experience. more

So Rude. Messed Up reservation & then insulted me 2/23/2011

They put my reservation on the wrong date. When asked to fix it, they said sorry, there is nothing they could do. When asked to please offer something to make up for it (must have some room for walk-ins they could adjust), Max the manager said, ""I'd love to hire a contractor & build you a room, but that just won't happen by Saturday."" more

Beautiful decor not much else 9/22/2010

It very a very intimate enviroment but I ordered chicken and well it was very dry and tasteless. The food leaves a lot to be desired. Will not go back. more

Zebra-- good follow up 5/17/2010

Although we had an initial poor experience, Mr. Alexander followed up with us and explained the situation which satisfied us. I suspect this was a one-time occurrence. I particularly liked the fact that he was willing to take the time and contact us personally We will definitely visit again, and adjust our rating accordingly. Somethng of a disappointment 5/3/2010

I have to say we were a little disappointed in our special occasion lunch at Zebra. The restaurant was not at all crowded but service was not what we expected at a restaurant with these prices (+ $70). Our waiter seemed very unhappy to be there and was absent for extended periods of time. I think management realized that some customers were getting hardly any service because what seemed to be a manager came out and asked us if we needed anything. We desperately needed salt and pepper because, sadly, the food was so under seasoned it was crying for help! Although we ordered luncheon entrees, no bread was offered. When we flagged our waiter down and requested it we were told ""I'll see what I can do."" Not at all what we expected! Pros: Beautiful Patio Cons: Service/Food found somewhat lacking more

Best in town 1/29/2010

I recently just went to Zebra and I have to say it was DELICIOUS! I got the lamb tenderloind diablo, which was sooo tender and cooked to perfection. I recommend it. I also got the jumbo crab cake which was pretty good too. The place can be a little pricey so for those of you that don't want to spend all that money I found a place online called halfoffdepot. They have a deal where you pay just $20 and you'll receive a $50 certificate to eat there. Trust me it's worth it. Got to the charlotte section....go check it out. Pros: Excellent food and service more

Rude Management 12/22/2009

Business professionals beware - apparently cell phones are not appropriate in the dining room - nor is texting or checking emails. I agree with the stance that no calls should be taken...however the way it was handled was COMPLETELY RUDE. Manager came over with dirty dishes and reprimanded me rather than politely explain the situation and asking that I refrain from looking at my email (I don't think speaking on the cell is appropriate either). (Additionally a number of others had cell phones out on tables and they didn't seem to be getting the message). There are no signs and the situation should have been dealt with much more delicately especially since this was right when we started the evening. They basically lost at least a $500 sale as we walked out. Cons: Non-professional staff more

Second dinner visit to this highly rated establishment. Service is very attentive albeit very slow. I think it's dictated by the kitchen which seems to be having some problems. Appetizer order taken but then told that they were out. Entree which was highly rated was dry, over peppered and cold. However, the other in my party seemed to be pleased. SIMPLY GREAT 7/1/2009

Great experience no matter what anyone tells you. I went there with my wife on Tuesday nite, we didn?t have a reservation but even so we were promptly greeted by one of the servers. The experience was awesome, REGARDLESS of the fact that they were clearly understaffed. I had mushroom soup while my wife enjoyed their vase salad. My wife has some dietary restrictions which were met without a problem. Wine list is great. Desserts were out of this world (try their sampler). Attention to details from the staff was exceptional, there were two waiters taking care of the whole restaurant but they did not missed a bit in the level of wine knowledge, attentiveness to our needs and generally creating great dining experience. We will be coming back for sure... best restaurant in Charlotte. Pros: staff, food, you name it... more

Nowhere near as good as anticipated 6/7/2009

We visited Zebra for the first time on a Friday night. The restaurant was half empty the entire evening and we expected better service as a result, but our waiter disappeared for long periods of time without coming to check on us. (Other waiters nearby, however, checked more frequently on surrounding tables.) The food was ok but not memorable. We will not likely return.
