Completely ignored my catering request 12/3/2010

My rating is in regards to their professionalism as a catering company under the URL for zafrakitchens I was forced to give 1 star in order to submit but I'd really rather give 0 stars. NOTHING in regards to customer service. I wrote 3 emails and made 2 phone calls attempting to find out catering information for my upcoming wedding. I received one follow up phone call the first time from an assistant who was fairly nice but I was told that I'd receive a follow up call and I never did. That's why I wrote 2 additional times. My fiance wrote to them as well and also received NO response. Their lack of professionalism and apparent lack of need for catering must indicate that business is too good for new business. I was excited about their catering menu bc since I'm of a mixed cultural background, I was looking for a mixed menu that appealed to both sides of my family. This menu was the closest that I have seen. If their lack of respect for me as a customer is an indication of how they would treat my wedding, obviously, I don't want them. I'm not only extremely disappointed but also saddened. I had enjoyed the times I had eaten there so much that I wanted to show it off to visiting family. Obviously not anymore. Thanks for wasting my time. It takes a lot for me to write a review, so for me to write an unfavorable review is a big deal. Now the food, obviously, I've enjoyed it which is why I was so interested in their catering. I find it hard to believe though that the lack of professionalism doesn't carry over into their kitchen practices and that worries me. People who lack courtesy and professionalism are generally the same in all other areas of their lives. Do I really want to wonder how unprofessional they might have been with my food? more

Bad attitude, service not included, will bully you for tip! 4/4/2009

This was an unprecedented nightmare of an evening. After waiting 45minutes, we had a table and ordered food and had drinks (it is BYO alcohol, and they mix it for you for a hefty charge). Everything turned sour after we politely asked about the $25 charge for the 3 glasses/drinks (remember we brought the alcohol, so you?re charged for the ice cubes, water, & the traces of lemon juice). We expected a $5 charge per glass, and this is why we inquired about the charge. \r \r The waitress (the older lady) rudely responded, ?I did not charge you for the cork fee, you use the bar time?? This only aggravated the situation and the feeling of being cheated (if you think of it you bring your own alcohol, and overall you pay more per person than if you had a drink at a real bar). \r \r Anyhow, as a result we left a small tip. Well, this is when the situation turned very bad. She threw the money we had given her on the table, and the old waitress told us that it is the LAW TO GIVE >10% TIPS, and DEMANDED that WE PAY MORE TIP EVEN THOUGH HER SERVICE AND RUDENESS WAS UNACCEPTABLE. When attempted to leave the restaurant, she told us ?you are NOT leaving without paying more tips? and she physically blocked & locked the door detaining us in the restaurant and called the police (uncertain if this was a tactic to intimidate us)! I told her, that I am a regular customer and usually generous with tips, but this time the customer service was terrible and did not deserve a tip. Then, she told us that we were BANNED from this restaurant. After ~10 minutes, she finally conceded to let us go and physically pushed my friend out of the restaurant!! \r So beware!\r Pros: not anymore! Cons: Bully & call the police if do not leave tip due to poor serv more

a hole in the wall 8/4/2007

this place is so quaint and intimate. It's also located away from the bustling crowd of washington ave. The food is always good though. The dishes may be south american based, but they're not weird eats at all. Try the chicken sandwich, its sooo good. The juices are freshly made. Some of the juices are made with the zest in them, so if thats not your forte, dont bother ordering. The decor is colorful, ethnic and cheery. Downside is that the space is soo small. There are only about 6 tables which fits 2-3 per table, 5 bar stools, and 1 table located outside. Street parking, which can be a hassle. Prices are fairly cheap. $6 per sandwich, $12 for bigger entrees. Pros: food, service, prices Cons: parking;small space; more

Amazing all around 3/24/2006

My bf and I went tonight and loved it! The service was awesome, the restaurant small and cozy. We felt like we were in someone's home. It is BYOB and they made Sangria for us which was really good. We asked the waiter to suggest dishes and he was spot on. The quesidilla much better and different than what one normally finds. The chicken was tender. The shrimp with mola sauce and kale was tasty. The tostonis crispy and not oily with a garlic sauce. The food was well portioned and there was a huge selection. Even the bread they gave us was toasted, warm and buttery. Pros: Food, Service, Sangria more

Decent food, terrible staff and grumpy owner 6/28/2005

I've been there once before, food is decent, service and ambience is poor. This time I had a party of 8 people and I made a reservation 4 days in advance and even gave them my phone number. Showed up on a hot weekend night, the whole restaurant is full for one party who reserved for 20 and showed up with 35. The owner and matre-d said that we could either sit outside (90 degrees and 100% humidity) or we could go somewhere else! No Apology, No ""i'm sorry"" and I had even given them my phone number to call if they had a problem. Becuase of their complete lack of sympathy I will never eat at this place or Chucaramamma (they own both) again. Pros: They have food Cons: Rude, Rude, Rude more
