Stay away from..... 11/21/2011

I recommend this place if you are looking for competitive prices but there are only a FEW competent stylists there. The tall red-head and the black lady on the north side of the shop are excellent! Top salon quality service. \r \r Do NOT go to the Chinese lady in the front! She willingly takes walk-ins and makes appointments at the same time she?s already got other people waiting for her - GREEDY! I?ve waited over two hours for a 15-minute haircut. She?s busy because she won?t stop taking people but not because she?s good. Her services are mediocre, rushed and done without care. I?ve watched her work and she had the lady who cleans the TOILETS AND BATHROOM do half the work! She condescendingly yells at this other lady to apply someone?s color, get her towels, and check people?s hair under the dryer. I seriously doubt the janitor is licensed to do hair! \r \r Pick and choose wisely! more

James is great 4/10/2006

James has cut and colored my hair twice now and he listens to what I want, understands my needs and does a very good job. He is very good at subtle highlights and doesn't try and force the latest style on me.\r \r Yeah, it's not a fancy salon and you don't get all the pampering - but it is very cheap and if you just want a cut and color, rather than a styling 'experience', then this is the place. Ask for James! PROS: cheap and simple CONS: no pampering, no luxury more

Lousy with kids! 12/1/2005

I have had poor expereiences here for 3 times (don't know why I went back). I had to clamp my son's head steady for the stylist, which I have never had to do. Place is somewhat seedy. PROS: in Santa Monica CONS: Seedy atmosphere more

They are OK but cheap 2/28/2005

The Yellow Balloon specializes in children's hair cuts. The first couple of time we went their my son saw different stylists and most of them did really good. Lately, the hair cuts have been mediocre. Most of the time I still need to fix it afterwards which is not what I expect from a hair salon. PROS: The kids get a yellow balloon to take home. Cheap CONS: You never know who you are going to get. more
