I liked the food, but was expecting it to be much better. I think it's a little overpriced for lunch when I went. I don't mind paying decent money for a excellent meal, but ...

Amazing!! Exceeded all expectations 4/25/2009

I haven't been to Yia Yia's in a long time. My girlfriend and I wanted to celebrate our anniversary and she suggested we go to Yia Yia's (her parents are frequent guests). The last time I went I remember the experience being pretty good and since the lady wanted Yia Yia's... From the moment we arrived the experience proved to be outstanding. The friendly hostesses greeted us with a smile and sat us in one of their comfy booths in the back. Our server was knowledgeable and answered all of our questions about the food. He also recommended a bottle of wine for us and it was amazing. I was impressed with the variety on their menu. They had very reasonably priced items from delicious looking appetizers to salads, pizzas, pastas and plenty more. We ordered their polenta appetizer which was absolutely amazing. I would go back just for that. My girlfriend ordered the scallops and I ordered the duck. Both were out of this world. We finished the evening with a phenomenal dessert. It was a berry mousse with sliced berries on top. I cannot say enough about my experience at Yia Yias. I have been recommending this place to all my friends. For any and all occasions, go to Yia Yia's. You will not be disappointed. Pros: Amazing food, excellent service more

Good Brunch, Mediocre Dinner 2/14/2005

Yia Yia's used to be THE place to go for Sunday brunch. It had the freshest fruit, the best food variety, and fantastic quality. Most everyone in West County St. Louis would go. Unfortunately, the overall quality and selection found in the Sunday brunches has decreased a little in the past year - and management seems to know it as they've reduced the price a little. It's still a good Sunday brunch, but it probably isn't the best in West County St. Louis anymore. I have to say I was personally a little dissapointed in their dinner, though. The quality was fine, but a little too eclectic - if you're into Mediterranean quisine, you'll probably be happy. I'm not, and I didn't really enjoy the meal that much. Whenever we've gone, service has been exemplary, and they've bent over backwards to keep our baby/toddler happy. Pros: brunch, service, atmosphere Cons: pricey more

The BEST! 6/30/2004

Everytime I have been to YiaYia's, it has been the same...incredible service, great atmosphere and best of all UNBELIEVABLY mouthwateringly delicious food. I have been for dinner, lunch and brunch. Everytime it was perfect. Planned a Ladies Lunch here before my sister's wedding and they went above and beyond. Between us, it was MUCH better than the rehearsal dinner. Don't forget to order the souffle with your meal, it takes an hour and no trip is complete without it. They are true professionals here and I would recommend them for two or forty! If you haven't been here yet, you are really missing out!!! Pros: Food, food, food., Excellent service, Atmosphere more

Just OK and not so for the money 7/10/2003

Rude introduction at the desk was how we were introduced. They need some new greeters. The food was good, service satisfactory, although our waiter was really into himself. Overall, there are better alternatives for the money. Pros: Decent Food, Atmosphere, Parking Cons: Poor greeters, Snooty, Expensive more

  • The Scene
Stepping into Yia Yia's gives you the sensation of entering a new-age Moose Lodge. Immense gray stone pillars bear antler-like coat hooks, and heavy wooden beams loom overhead. Outside, vividly colored flowers in mismatched planters and terra cotta pots line the low wall surrounding the patio, obscuring the view of the parking lot. Large space heaters mounted on tall poles around the perimeter keep the area toasty even on chilly evenings.

    The Food
"Yia Yia" is Greek for "grandmother," but the menu is more eclectic than strictly Mediterranean and goes far beyond the comfort food most grandmas turn out. Look for things like Cobb salad to calamari to Kansas City strip. Executive Chef Rob Uyemura uses fragrant sauces and flavorful cheeses to punch up the taste of each dish. For example, the beef tenderloin is blanketed with a dramatic Gorgonzola-Chianti sauce spiked with black pepper. If you want to make neighboring diners murmur with envy, order the chocolate "souffle." Not really a souffle at all, this dessert has a much denser, brownie-like texture, with a molten Callabaut chocolate center.
