I was thrilled because I've always wanted to check XYZ out and with no surprise, we had a grand time... As we arrived at the restaurant, I was given a long-stem rose for welcome.....

Comfortable bed, clean room 3/24/2012

This is a nice little hotel. It is very clean and comfortable. The bed was fantastic; I had a good night's sleep. It's a great hotel but if any of you are looking to save some $$ then book it at SweetHotelDeals.us They usually have some pretty good deals on there! more

Excellent Bar 10/10/2008

I was thrilled because I've always wanted to check XYZ out and with no surprise, we had a grand time... As we arrived at the restaurant, I was given a long-stem rose for welcome... We were treated like ""royals""... Besides the cool ambiance, the food and service are excellent.., our waiter that night, mentioned about the free-chocolates at the bar and oh boy, it was like heaven - what a great way to end our night at XYZ... Highly recommended!!!! more

Hotel suprise 8/1/2008

Had gone to this restaurant with a friend from out of town. Not so sure this was the place to empress, but its location was the best for the time we had. We were greeted fast by the host who got us a great booth, which I thought was the best table in the restaurant. The funny thing is that the restaurant was full and give any cash to inspire that. The waiter nice , his name was Brad or Brian and got us a great recomendation for wine from the wine buyer, who is also a waiter. The wine service was of a five star restaurant and did not make me feel uncomfortable or intimidated. The waiter explained the menu and offered other alternatives for my friend who had special needs. The food was great, freash and complimented with sauces and spices that I would not normaly think of. My favorit was the duck with the roasted veggies and my friend loved the tasting menue. I had the choclate granache cake and it was too small but rich enought to fill me up hundreds of calories(it was just enoght) The waiter was busy but met our needs and found time to chat with us and gave us a heads up. 50% OFF THE WINE LIST IN ALL OF AUGUST. Not kidding. Great wine list, oooh yeah we will be back. Had great company great service, food and wine. Thank you San Francisco. Pros: food, service, WINE Cons: the rooom looks used, like a 20 year old high end restaurant that need a renovation more

Poor service 1/29/2008

This place is really nice, don't get me wrong, but the wait staff is so rude. They lost my friend's credit card and were completely unsympathetic about it. He never got it back. They also got mad at another person I came with, because they ordered food from the downstairs lounge and took it upstairs to eat. It?s the same place! Other than that, the drink specials were pretty decent and the atmosphere is gorgeous. I just hate when bartenders and waiters are cocky because they work in a nice place. Pros: Great atmosphere in a beautiful hotel. Cons: Crappy service and rude bar staff. more

fun 1/23/2008

this is not my favorite place in the city - but I always end up having a great time here. It has a sort of snooty vibe to it but like I said - everyone ends up having a great night overall so i guess it's worth a visit to judge for yourself. more

Fun, trendy, wide variety of people 1/21/2008

Not sure if it was just near the convention center and a big techie convention was going on, but the bar had a pretty fun scene every night. The drinks are generous and the bartendars are a friendly...once you're able to get past their standoffish exterior. The decor is trendy with plush couches, contemporary chairs and warm fireplace. Not a bad place after a long day at the convention hall. Pros: Love the decor Cons: Closes way too early (last call at 130am) more

Nice Hang Out Place 10/17/2007

I love the XYZ bar, the bartenders here are for sure lovely. Barry, Josh, Eric, Ann Marie are my favorite bartenders here. The small bites are good though. Calamari and french fries are things I want all the time here. more

Pros: ambience, service, location more

One of our favorite places on the list 2/8/2007

This is one of our favorite stops. Its a nice lounge, located within the The W Hotel. We stop by every weekend for a little chit chatting and on we go. Its got a great vibe and nice interior for the upscale crowd. Theres alot of space to move around and meet new people. The drink cocktails aren't the best, but the ambiance and crowd makes up. Our favorite places on the weekend agenda are Starlight Room, Red Room, Matrix, Slanted Door, Foreign Cinema and the Syn Lounge. Pros: This is a great place Cons: Drinks are pricey, but thats how they keep the up scale patrons more

great meal, but a little rushed 1/29/2007

Went to XYZ for the first time for Dine About Town. There were 2 options for every course as well as wine pairings, which were OK, not excellent. My appetizer was a beet salad which made me realize how great beets are! It was delicious and simple. Our entrees, braised short ribs w/ broccoli rapini and salmon w/ risotto were tasty but very heavy. Flavors were good but I didn't feel like it was something worth going to a pricey restaurant for. Dessert was excellent though, the semifreddo of banana bread and vanilla ice cream topped with candied walnuts was a great way to end the meal. Unfortunately, we felt overstuffed and there was little time in between courses to just take a break. There was a feeling of being rushed out of there (even though there were still open tables). Overall, very posh surroundings make it fun but food didn't live up to expectations. more

Avoid the food..... 1/21/2007

Went for Sunday brunch with the wife for the dine about town specials. First course she had the beet salad which was inclusive of mizuna, beet, goat cheese, and walnuts. The ingredients by itself is fine, however together it did not make any sense. Mizuna and beet tasted odd, nor did it mix with the goat cheese. The second course was equally disasterous, we both had the rigattoni pasta. It was similar to farmer's pasta, however the pancetta they used was overly greasy, the wife could only finish 5 bites of her food whereas I finished half of the dish then came the pounding headache when you consume too much oil. The dessert for the wife was equally unimpressive, she had the banana cake which had extensive frosting which made the course much too sweet, the sorbet that I had was a pleasant surprise. Pros: Immaculate service. Cons: The food. Dirty suede booth, dirty floors. more

Overpriced cocktails 11/24/2006

Overpriced cocktails and annoyingly trendy clientele but the decor is fabulous. I'd go here if I were on an expense account or someone else were paying... more

mellow but fun 11/21/2006

I went here after a huge party down town and this was the perfect place to relax and sip a few cocktails before heading home. Very nice decor and sheik trendy setting. Will be returning when in the area I'm sure. Pros: atmosphere more

Good For Small Events 11/10/2006

Great for small parties. The staff was very friendly....they worked with me to plan a small event for 20 people, the food was good (although they wouldn't serve warm food).....they space is really nice. more

nice atmosphere, good drinks 11/10/2006

This place is on the second floor in the W. Good place to get drinks before heading out for a night on the town. Lots of booths to sit in and there is a live DJ there spinning some good beats. The bartenders were super friendly and helpful. Crowd was upscale professionals. Drinks were on the expensive side, 10 and 11 for martinis. Pros: nice lounge like atmosphere, good looking crowd Cons: pricey drinks, no parking more

INCREADIBLE 4/14/2006

This place is unbelievable. My uncle hosted a huge birthday party for my aunt at XYZ. We could all order anything we wanted. It was a dream. I made a pig of myself. Everything was delicious--the appetizers, the main courses, the desserts (I ordered THREE!), the cocktails. The service was surprisingly quick for such a large party. It was probably a group of 25. I would highly recommend this place. I didn't have to pay that night, but if I did, I admit I would be a little bit turned off by the prices. But then again, I'd say this place is worth splurging on once in a (great) while. And adding to others' comments, VERY stylish place. Pros: everything Cons: prices more

Great upstairs bar (but don't go downstairs!) 3/24/2006

Downstairs in the hotel, the service was not great so we decided to move upstairs and wow, what a difference. Amazing bartender. He mixed great drinks, was friendly and a great conversationalist, and really made for a great atmosphere. At his recommendation I had, for the first time, chartreuse, which is a wild liquor similar to absinthe that (i have now learned) is hard to find but totally fun to drink. XYZ has plenty of it, as well as some other fun and unusual drinks, and also has a great bartender and a fun crowd. So my advice to you is, head straight upstairs for a great bar(and bartender!), but definitely avoid the downstairs. Pros: great upstairs in XYZ Cons: not great downstairs in the ohter bar- go right up the stairs! more

Very Sexy atmosphere 1/10/2006

I tried the dine about town menu with my husband. We really enjoyed the overall look and feel of the place. It feels trendy and very sexy, but with an understated elegance. My favorite part was the wine list, which was awesome. They also offered an optional wine pairing with the dine about town menu, which turned out to have some really interesting and tasty choices. I think this is a good place to go on a date, but maybe not with a big group. Oh, and the desserts were out of this world. Pros: Beautiful atmosphere, Great Wine list, Panna Cotta Cons: Valet is expensive, small portions more
