Our girls have loved going to this office! The staff has always been really patient, positive, and understanding. On our recent visit, we worked with Karena and she made our girls feel really special throughout the visit. Dr. Ski was very kind about answering all of our questions, and we have had great experiences with Dr. Stafford as well. more

This tip is being written by World Of Smiles in response to the review posted by furnitureresearcher on February 26.\r \r We are sorry to read that we did not meet your expectations leading up to the diagnosis of multiple cavities in your son's teeth. Dr. Stafford strives to address all parental concerns, and it is regrettable that you feel she failed to do this. While we always strongly encourage a second opinion with another pediatric dentist, it is worth noting that Dr. Stafford would stand by her diagnosis. As a pediatric dental specialist, she has received an additional two years of intensive training to be able to recognize the special needs of children and primary teeth. Without x-rays, a full diagnosis can not truly be determined as many cavities are between teeth which can not be seen solely by the naked eye.\r \r It is our standard policy to follow up with patients who have been diagnosed for treatment. When a parent declines to follow through on a treatment plan, we are compelled to dismiss that patient from our practice since we would still be responsible for potential negative outcomes resulting from not having followed through on the treatment. We apologize that we did not handle this more delicately. Furthermore, the entire team of World of Smiles have specific training and certifications through the Board of Dentistry. We are dedicated to exceptional oral healthcare and therefore pride ourselves on providing the most complete dental advice and information to our families to promote a lifetime of excellent oral health; just as your pediatrician provides information to families to promote overall health and well-being.\r \r We will continue to strive for happy kids, healthy teeth, and positive dental visits. more

Cheats - get a second opinion before you follow their advice. I had an experience similar to Greg T. \r My son was 5 when I took him to Michelle Stafford. The first two visits were just regular cleaning and most of the unwanted and unasked advice was given by the dental assistant (looked 16). They took xrays during both those visits. The third visit, they took an xray again and after the checkup which lasted all of 4 minutes, Michelle left and I was taken into an office where a lady (I dont know if she was a nurse or what her credentials were) told me that my son had cavities in his 2 back teeth and he needed to have fillings. She proceeded to explain about the 'anasthesia' they used etc. I signed the forms that she gave me and came back home thinking 'why did the dentist not take the time to explain anything to me. Is that not part of her job?' I then showed the xray pictures (i asked them to send me an email with the pictures) to a friend who is a dentist and he did not see any cavities. A few weeks later, world of smiles called and asked when I was coming in for the fillings. I told them that I was not going to get it done. The lady who called tried to convince me (she was not a dentist) and I had to put my foot down and insist that I was not going to get the fillings done. After about 2 weeks,I got a letter from them saying that they were not going to see my son anymore unless I agreed to do the fillings. So they terminated care for my son. \r The funny thing is they called me again a few weeks later asking when we were going for regular teeth cleaning. So this was obviously a threat to pressurize me into getting fillings for my son. So I told the lady that they had terminated care for my son and it was completely unethical . \r I took my son to another dentist today (more than 6 months after world of smiles terminated care) , no xrays were done, the dentists checked his teeth and said there was no sign of any cavities. So it is very obvious that Michelle either does not know what she is doing or she tried to con me. Good riddance! \r more

World of Smiles doesnt want you to see this review.\r On August 28, 2012, My 5yr old boy was denied his check up because I refused X-Rays (radiation). He has no teeth issues, they are wide spaced and healthy- this was to be a simple routine check up, he's only 5. My son has already had numerous X-Rays from a broken elbow and a smashed finger, but that didn't matter to dentist at World of Smiles--She refused to check his teeth and told us we had to find another dentist. (Gladly)\r --When doctors are prescribing fluoride, antibiotics and radiation - it's no wonder our children are sick -- Question Authority. more

We've been coming here for four years, with two kids, and have had only positive experiences. The staff is wonderful, the dentists are terrific, and both of my kids are very excited about going to the dentist every time. When our insurance changed slightly last year (a bit less coverage) we contacted them about it, the staff explained fully what our options were, and we ultimately decided to stay with World of Smiles even if it cost us a bit more out of pocket. They ask via kiosk every visit about any new or ongoing health issues, which is quite quick and convenient, and everyone is very caring and positive with the kids. Highly recommended! more

Great Dental Care! 12/7/2010

Dr. Michelle Stafford and her staff made the trip to the dentist comfortable for both me and my sons. The waiting room was exciting to the kids, live animals and lots of toys--they played again on their way out! My five year old, who required a few fillings, was happily distracted by the movie on the ceiling, and was surprised when the work in his mouth was finished so quickly (and so was his mama!). My two year old was kindly convinced to open his mouth and to get his teeth counted, all while sitting in his mothers lap. It was a nice calm trip to the dentist. more

Education and Prevention Lead to Healthy Smiles and Happy Kids

Owner Message
  • Our Mission:

To provide the highest level of dental treatment to children, while emphasizing preventative care through oral hygiene and diet counseling and also to entertain and inspire them through the practice's unique travel theme and change their perception of a dental visit.

Michelle D. Stafford, D.D.S. is an accredited pediatric dentist. This means that she completed an additional two years of training after dental school in an accredited pediatric residency program to become a pediatric dental specialist. She chose this specialty because she believes that every child deserves to have a positive experience going to the dentist.

Dr. Stafford attended University of the Pacific in Stockton, California for her undergraduate studies. In 2001, she graduated from the Arthur A. Dugoni School of Dentistry with her doctorate in dental surgery. After practicing in the San Francisco Bay Area for five years, she moved to Michigan to attend the Children's Hospital of Michigan Pediatric Dental Residency Program.

In July 2008, Dr. Stafford fulfilled her dream of opening her own pediatric dental practice in Portland, Oregon, where she can help children establish healthy habits that will last a lifetime.

Our highly trained team strives to make each child's dental experience a positive one. We aim to turn a routine visit to the dentist into a fun trip to a new place by making every child feel special and welcome.

Televisions built into the ceiling above every dental chair provide children with a positive distraction. By keeping the patient distracted with the television it allows the dentist and team to communicate with the parents while thoroughly examining and cleaning the child's teeth. During treatment procedures, the child has the television to listen to and focus on which makes the appointments seem shorter and much more enjoyable for the child.

From the moment you enter World of Smiles and complete all forms on a computer, you will recognize you are in a high-tech environment. Everything from digital radiographs to paperless charting is incorporated into this modern practice.

All x-rays are taken with state-of-the-art computer technology, which uses significantly less radiation than traditional x-rays. For many of our patients, an extra-oral panoramic radiograph captures everything we need to see and eliminates gagging or struggling to keep the film in place.

We run a highly sophisticated dental software program that allows us to create individualized treatment plans for our patients. We can easily display your child's radiographs, pictures and dental needs on the computer screen to better communicate with you and answer any questions you may have. Once we determine a plan for your child's oral health care, we will print you an easy-to-understand take-home statements.
