Saved the Day! 2/17/2011

Had an wiring malfunction in the house at 8am on a day with immovable appointments. Called Wizard. They returned my call promptly and worked with a quirky schedule of my neighbor to provide access. Called me afterwards. Was able to troubleshoot the problem and solve it. All of this for a first time call-in stranger. I received great treatment and recommend. Bruce in NE Seattle more

most arrogant guy I ever met 8/20/2010

Make sure you are a man when he comes to your home!! I researched the expense and code for installing a ground rod. I did not receive my information from Home Depot. I was told what was needed from the electric company and code enforcement. When Wizard electric came to our home, he stated we needed this, and this. He kept insisting we were not grounded at our water pipes. He did not look at the hot water tank, where it shows we are grounded with copper tube both hot and cold. He never looked at our electrical box inside our garage. I asked him to call my husband and speak to him concerning this. He flat out refused. I tried to explain what the electric company said and he sarcastically said well since you are an expert, you do it. This man did not allow me to question why he wanted $275.00 for a job that should only cost around $150.00. Because I knew the prices of the rod, clamps, etc., (cost was under $55.00, Grainger), he yelled and screamed at me out in front of my home, to were my neighbor started to walk over. He immediately jumped in his van while yelling “do it yourself, since you are such an expert”. I cannot and will not recommend him or his company. more

Total Satisfaction with Wizard Electric 5/21/2009

I was dismayed to read the bad reviews of Wizard Electric. I hired them in the Fall of 2008 to remove the knob and tube in my home and replace it with romex. I had previously hired two electricians with very bad results. Verne was very communicative, responsive in a timely manner and had a since of craftsmanship. His bid was on the spot. I had one return visit on the punt list in which Verne and his assistant was very responsive. They charged for half the work as a portion of the work was not in the original bid. Their hourly wage seemed high but they were so efficient the total bill ended up being the similar to the cheaper bids. Also, Maggie in the office was very understanding when I could not get payment to them in a timely manner. I have more electric work to be done and Wizard will be my choice. I consider them my on call electricians. more

Wizard Electric--My Worst Contractor Experience Ever 3/19/2006

Based on recommendations on this board, we hired Wizard Electric to remove some knob & tube, add some GFIs, and do some other wiring. Their initial bid (time & materials) seemed comparable to others, but they ended up ultimately charging us three times as much as their bid (in the interest of full disclosure, I note that we did add some work to the job description, but it was certainly not 3, or even 2, times as much). Immediately after they left the first time, we noticed some significant problems--e.g., the heater fan no longer worked at all, and when we ran our toaster and microwave at the same time, it would short out all our lights in the kitchen area (which is horrible when it's suddenly pitch black when you're making dinner for your toddler). After repeated calls & messages (at least 10), they finally came over to fix the problems. About 10 minutes after they finished "fixing" the problems, I went to use the microwave (that had worked fine earlier that day) & it made a horrible popping/electrical screeching sound & blew the circuit again. They came back, & then said it couldn't possibly be their fault because they hadn't worked on the microwave outlet!! (As if I had been changing the wiring myself in those 10 minutes). Sure enough, they figured out a way to fix it (two of them working for 40 minutes). The physical appearance of the work also was quite shoddy. In the outlets they changed, they cracked out large areas of the drywall surrounding the outlet. Similarly, one of the GFIs did not sit flush (the top half of the outlet stuck out of the wall at an angle about 3/8 of an inch farther than the lower part)--& this was after they "fixed" it. To top it all off, after they came out to "fix" the problems they caused the first time, they charged us additional money to fix things that were solely their fault. For example, because they did not properly feed the phone wire through the wall originally, they then charged us a lot extra to feed it through properly the second time. (And didn't tell us it would cost more to clean up their mess until they sent us the bill.) And these are just a few of the problems . . . . We will never use Wizard Electric again & urge anyone who wants quality work done to avoid this contractor. I will be searching for another electrician for additional work needed & hope to be able to post a review steering you his/her way. more

Another Judy's Book Success Story!-Wizard Electric 2/9/2006

I am pleased to report that I took the recommendation of one of my fellow Judy's Book members (http://members.judysbook.com/posts/content/review.aspx?ci=4468) and called Wizard Electric for some work I needed done on my Ballard 4-plex. I placed a call to the office and got a return by the end of that business day. Vern though he could get "one of his guys" out to look at my "situation" the very next day and he did. John (I think) came out, diagnosed the "situation" and solved my problem in less time than it takes to watch a bad movie (on my new TV ). The price for labor was right the fix did not involve any demolition. WHEW! Wizard Electrical is among my list of preferred contractors. Thank you! more

Good Electricians 6/15/2005

In 2004, We hired Wizard Electric to almost completely re-wire our house (from old knob & tube to modern romex) and to add a bunch of outlets. They did great work for us then, but I think the guys who worked on our house have since left. Lance was the boss (came a few times to assess the job and then to oversee) and David did most of the work. When I needed more electrical work, I looked into it. Lance started a company called Seattle Electric. I have not figured out where David or John went (and I could be wrong about them both leaving). Since these guys left, Wizard started getting bad reviews. Call Seattle Electric instead to be sure you will have a good experience. That is what I did - and it worked.
