Winter Garden Tavern

I recently returned to michigan and was looking for a decent place to eat lunch and unwind..The last time i was at the wintergarden, it was small and limited.I was pleasantly supprised to see that there was a major expansion..The staff was very friendly and attentive and made me feel comfortable and welcome..the cute bartender made me feel at home as did some of the other patrons..the food was very good..better then i expected..and i was happy with the prices. There was a small party in the pool table area and i decided that the garden would be a great place to have holiday/birthday parties..etc. All in all I was very pleased and would recommend this establishment to anyone..also,I learned that the garden has been around since prohibition and i liked the history and atmosphere of the wintergarden.. more

This is one of, if not the most, unprofessional establishments I've ever visited. It's unfortunate for me to say such a thing too, granted that I'm a loyal Livonia resident and only want the best for the community. We came here on Saturday night and were in the presence of the rudest, loudest and most unprofessional bar tender / some kind of supervisor lady that seemed to be more intoxicated than any other CUSTOMER based on her behavior. With that being said, I can imagine some of the insanely drunk & out of control customers that bar tenders and waitresses have to deal with, but it should never bring out the worst in the business itself. Apparently someone broke a light bulb and was standing on the pool table or something along those lines. Whatever the case, it set off this little 100 lb female supervisor to scream profanities, turn on the bar lights with a remaining 45 minutes or so until they closed and kicked everyone out. I believe the phrase continuously went something like, ""EVERYBODY GET THE F*CK OUT! WE'RE F*CKING CLOSED!"" Furthermore, this outrage was screamed in a room in which all of the customers had no idea what was going on. The incident in which this took place wasn't even in that area. A table full of elderly people were being stood over by the ""lady"" as she shouted over and over again. We could tell they were there enjoying each others company and it looked like they were even having dinner. To make things even worse, she went up to our designated driver and told him that he had enough to drink and almost refused to take his drink order. He was ordering for the table, not for himself, and we just walked into Wintergarden probably 5 minutes before that. Nonetheless, he was deeply offended, as we all were, since she approached him so hastily. Even the other bar tender (who took the order) apologized to us for her own supervisor's unprofessionalism and the manner in which she approached us. We did receive our drinks but the same lady poured them out and gave us attitude when we wanted to be reassured that we weren't being charged for those drink. She went between screaming at the customers and pouring out everyone's drinks. For an area where jobs are scarce and unemployment is at an all-time low, you'd think people would value their jobs slightly more. Here's some advice for all current / potential customers: If you're looking for a relaxed time in Livonia, walk next door to Coach's Corner on Farmington Rd. Great atmosphere! Great staff! They won't try to kill you! They told us that it's very typical for ticked off customers to come over there when Wintergarden kicks everyone out. Unbelievable! I frequented this tavern a couple of years ago. The old bartender/manager got to a point of being so obnoxious that i stopped coming by. A friend said the old manager was gone so i thought I'd give it a try again. I'm glad we did because the wings were fantastic and the service was fast and friendly. We'll be back! My husband and I have been coming here for years, we used to live in the neighborhood behind the bar and it was our weekly hang out. After moving some three years ago we tried to come back as much as possible. We had some bad experiences on the weekends with the old manager watching her go from a nice out going girl to a slobering idoit? That and some of the staff a year or so ago always seemed impolite and it did'nt have the same old feel.. Taking a chance we came back on a whim last week and were very impressed and suprised to find bright new staff and management. I spoke to the young lady breifly and she was full of promise and energy and seemed to have her wits to her! The bar and wait staff were professionally dressed and the food was great as always! The wintergarden used to be a place to go where u knew everyone, drinks came right away and always felt welcome. Now u have slow service, terrible drinks, same old specials day after day ""U call those specials""????. The owners where r they never come to talk to customers just don't care. We love this bar! My fiance and I always sit at the bar and always get exceptional service there. We are regulars and have been for years and this will always be our number 1 bar. The atmosphere is warm and welcoming, the waitresses and bartenders are the best and the food is great! If you love ""bar fries"" this is the place. Their lunch menu is a great deal and the DJ on Saturday nights is great. We have and will continue to recommend this bar. :) more

Overpriced beer, LAME shots (the liquor is in there somewhere..I think) and an obnoxious drunk of a bartender make this a stop you'll want to forget you ever made.\r \r The hot wings are actually pretty good...sauce has a good kick...but the rest of the menu is pretty ordinary. They have some plasmas but also a couple of old school TV's and poorly placed at that so watching the game can be difficult.\r \r Catholic school girl uniform bit on the waitresses is old and tired...fitting for this bore of a bar. I always like going to the wintergarden because everyone is friendly there, from the wait staff to the bartenders to the regulars. The food tastes great all the time and the beer is always ice cold. Its clean and well kept and they have people who care working. The waitstaff is always happy to help and willing to make sure you are happy. Im usually there at night and I'd like to say that Heather its one of the best bartenders I have seen. She makes sure you always have a full beer or drink in you hand, lets you know the specials before you even sit down and always makes sure my nights out are the best. I saw someone wrote that the manager is always drunk, but I think they have that confused with the manager having a good time and enjoying the job not wasted. I'd like to think that person doesnt like the manager and probably is a depressed person who got turned down by her. Most bars in this area are lame. The Wnter Garden has something for every one, live music, karaoke, many pool tables, darts, shuffel board, golden tee and a few other arcade games, great beers on tap like Magic Hat #9, and Long Hammer, the food is also very good, the pizza and wings are my top choices. The bar tenders, and wait staff are fun, fast, friendly, and hot. On a Friday night the service is pretty good- the bartenders are great! The manager/bartender is usually drunk and out of control (Mon/Tues nights sometimes Thurs nights if you want to avoid). Other than that- yes the food is good, I love the pizza and steak bites! Good music on Friday and Saturday nights- younger crowd usually. Pros: Good food, music, and regulars! This place has it all. From great food to a good beer selection. Many pool tables, schuffle board and dart boards. Oh yeah, and lots of tv's to watch while enjoying yourself with friends. Every Friday and Saturday they have a DJ or a live band pushing out some tunes. Its just a great place to go and have fun for the night. Pros: Great enviroment. Cons: The wait staff can be slow. more
