Why would you want to pay to see things that are so obviously fake. I was not impressed with this mystery house because the set up seemed super fake from the get go. PROS: none...

An old crazy lady built this house with the Winchester rifle fortune so that she would appease the spirits of the dead. She was told if she kept building she would live forever. She died, but the house does live on and it's lavish and beautiful. They no longer take AAA discount and you should book ahead before you go. Worth the visit. Well worth it. more

Wow what a place! 1/13/2011

This place is amazing! \r \r We toured the Victorian mansion with about 25 of my family members of the holidays. \r \r I don?t know how anyone can keep up with a house of that magnitude but we did have a great time on the tour. \r \r The house is so very well decorated ? I wish I knew the name of the designers or had the money to be able to afford it! \r \r It?s a very nice place to visit and we had a wonderful time ? thank you! more

Winchester Mystery House is cool 9/10/2009

This tour is worth the visit, although you may not return. I recommend attending at least once. I didnt not find the house to be expecially spooky, my kids and i enjoyed ourselves. more

Very Interesting Tour 10/13/2008

My husband and I went to the Winchester Mystery House a few years ago and it was the most interesting tour we had ever been on at that point. The house itself was absolutely fascinating and filled with such beauty that it took your breath away. The turn of the century victorian furnishings and decor were amazing. I especially liked the room that housed all the exquisite stained glass items. I also loved standing in the room in which Mrs. Winchester held her seances. The whole house was quirky and was a testament to the mind set of this woman. It made one wonder what really made her tick and I wondered what a psychiatrist would say about her train of thought. There was nothing eery about it. The grounds were absolutely lovely. A most enjoyable and worthwhile visit. I'd highly recommend it to everyone. more

Great! 8/1/2008

I took my three children here a week ago..and although there was a lot of walking which made it tough on the little one...WE all had a blast. We loved the smaller entryways and tiny stairs. The prices were okay and you could get different tours for different prices. more

Overrated 6/4/2008

The Winchester Mystery House is an interesting site to see, yes, but the tour is really not all that good and the whole things is way overpriced. You'd be better off looking at photographs or stories online, as you really won't get much (save a lot of commercialism) from doing the tour here. more

Everyone should go at least once. 10/17/2007

The Winchester Mystery House is one if those places that everyone should see at least once. It's fascinating to visit this strange mansion and learn the story of the owner's life as she added strange and bizarre features to the house before her death. There are doors that lead nowhere, little tiny stairwells, and plenty of creepy lore to interest everyone on the family. more

The Best 10/3/2007

Everyone should take one of the tours at Winchester Mystery House. Just the story of Sara Winchester is so interesting. All of the tours are amazing. Definately a must see. more

Winchester House Mystery Tour, San Jose, CA 7/24/2007

Great tour, knowledgeable guides. However, not sure about the""mystery"" part! Seems to me that the true Sarah Winchester/Winchester House history/story is way more intriguing than all the ""legends,"" ""mystery,"" etc. etc.! Read the pamphlet (for sale in the Gift Shop) written by the people that knew her. Pros: Great guides, good parking, super interesting Cons: Pricey food more

It's Good to See Once 4/2/2007

I would definitely bring the big kids and keep the younger ones at home (they'll get bored). It's interesting to see what can be done as the result of someone's desperation (in this case, the quest for immortality) and the house is certainly unusual. I mostly just felt sad for Mrs. Winchester thinking of how she placed her hope in the sound of hammers and saws. It's a bit of a tourist trap and the whole story is played up for effect. Price of the tour is expensive, but it's worth at least one trip in a lifetime. more

Spooky Fun 3/27/2007

It was certainly spooky and scary but since I had anticipated too much out out it, I guess I was a little disappointed when I went there. Also the price of tours was expensive. more

Don't play hide and seek in this place 12/19/2006

Don't even try to play a game of hide and seek in this place. Listen carefully to the tour guide cause let me tell you what happens when you try to get in a quick game of hide and seek. You will lose your mind, and probably a friend or family member. I lost my girlfriend in this place, she is still missing. A friend said that she went into a room on the second floor, a room that when I opened the door, was no longer there. Perhaps she is in a Narnia like place. Perhaps she was abducted by the ghost of Winchester. I don't know but I miss her. The place is cool otherwise, just pay attention to the steps in front of you. more

Spooky House 10/18/2006

This house is very interesting - doors that open to nowhere - stairs that go up the walls - rooms with no windows -this house is so strange it is kind of funny - they say there is a ghost haunting the house - but I think thats part of the fun - staff is friendly and helpful. more

SCARY & FUN 10/17/2006

THIS PLACE IS SPOOKY AND SCARY IT IS LOCATED IN SAN JOSE THEY HAVE A TOUR YOU CAN TAKE TO SEE HOW AND LEARN ABOUT THE MYSTERY HOUSE IT IS A VERY SCARY PLACE. more

VERY COOL 10/12/2006

THE WINCHESTER MYSTERY HOUSE WAS VERY NEAT I THOUGHT MY DAUGHTERS DIDN'T REALLY CARE FOR IT BUT ITS STILL A FUN PLACE TO GO AND VISIT I THINK IF YOU BRING KIDS THEY SHOULD BE AT LEAST 7 YEARS OR OLDER TO ENJOY IT. more

Not-so-mysterious 10/5/2006

I went to the Winchester Mystery House last Halloween with my family, and though it was really cool to wander through all the narrow hallways, dead end stairways, listen to the creepy myths, it wasn't entirely believable. At the end, a ghost jumped out of a closet- really killed the realism they were shooting for. But other cottages on the grounds gave trick-or-treaters candy, and there were lots of other kids in costumes. It's a different alternative to regular Halloween traditions, but I don't think I'd go again. It's nice to see, but once is definitely enough. more

Gotta go once 10/3/2006

I went on Halloween for a night tour and it was fun being there with other people all dressed up and asking silly. The place wasn't as spooky as I expected, but still a good laugh. PROS: A little eerie CONS: Small, seems to have been built just to be an attraction more

Not scary. Boo 10/1/2006

Why would you want to pay to see things that are so obviously fake. I was not impressed with this mystery house because the set up seemed super fake from the get go. PROS: none. CONS: Not Scary. more

a little eerie 9/30/2006

It can be a little scary for younger kids but the older love it. They offer daily guided tours. They also offer flashnight tours which I would love to do. THe garden is absolutely beautiful. Worth the cost for an afternoon of having that eerie feeling. more
