Thats, hmmmmm? not yummmmmm! I'm not sure about all the hype. We had great service, but so-so food. And with all the choices this city has, I probably won't go back. The wine ...

Way Overrated 10/4/2005

Last night my husband and I ate there for the first time. I ordered a steak medium rare but it was served raw. What I did eat was tough and chewy plus it had a lot of gristle throughout. I seriously had to put some muscle/pressure onto my steak knife to even cut the piece of what I did eat. My husband had quail and it was a little bigger than a parakeet and loaded with little bones. It was tricky trying to eat it and ensure you didn't swallow one. The green beans were very good as were the creamed leeks. But we didn't go there for killer green beans and/or creamed leeks. It is highly unlikely we will ever go back there - like I said, it's way overrated. Pros: Easy parking Cons: Crummy meat/poultry more

Food is adequate but service is subpart 5/14/2005

Food was okay (that is, chicken and fish were not dry) but not inspiring. Waiters were hanging around in groups, chatting up a storm. They seemed to be more interested in socializing than making their customers happy. Our waiter came by twice but didn't notice the empty ice tea glass. Overall, I feel the dinning experience was overvalued. Pros: Food Cons: Service, Value more

Nice but not spectacular 1/14/2005

This restaurant has been on my ""Life List"" of places to go for eight years and it unfortunately did not measure up to the anticipation. It is a lovely place with kind people and good food but I expected far more for the press & the price. The prosciutto & fennel appetizer and the roasted mussels course were tasty but uninspiring. My husband's steak and my sole were divinely done but again, not worth the cost considering there was no real 'sides' accompanying them. The waitstaff could also have been a bit more engaging. Pros: Good food, NW location Cons: , Detached service, Expensive more

I disagree with the negative reviews 9/19/2004

I've got to disagree with the negative reviews about this restaurant. My dad was visiting from NYC and I decided to take him to Wildwood. Both of us thought our meals were outstanding. We both loved the use of all the fresh local ingredients. We were promptly seated, upon arrival (even though we were a tad early). I thought the wait-staff were very professional and attentive. The wine list was amazing, as well. All-in-all, I really found it to be a great experience and I would definitely go back. Some folks might think it's a bit pricey (by PDX standards), but I found it to be a good value for a great meal. The only down side (as with many popular restaurants) is that it can tend to get a bit noisy. Pros: Fabulous, fresh food, Local produce more

service rocks 6/22/2004

i came in and sat on the patio on a busy friday night, it was busy so i expected the food to come a little slower, but the waiter was really attentive and always made sure my wine glass was full. the short ribs i had were so tender they melted in my mouth. also the waiter always had a smile and made us feel welcome the whole time we were there. Pros: service, large portions, wine list more

excellent dinner 3/28/2004

Wildwood - the best Portland dinner we have ever experienced. Service was attentive and accomodating; beverages were generous; dinner was timely and satisfying. High recommendation. We're frequent visiting Portland from Canada, and will definitely dine again at Wildwood Restaurant. more

disappointment! 11/29/2003

We went for brunch on a Sunday, after having visited aprox. 1 year ago and having had a tremendous experience: food, service, ambience were all superlative. Unfortunately I think the restaurant is now trying to pinch pennies, and it shows. Our food was incredibly slow to arrive - this was brunch, not dinner, and the restaurant was less than half full. On the previous visit, we received breakfast rolls while we waited; not the case now (a pecan bun is $3.75....). No bread at all is served with the meal; others in our party had an egg dish and had to specifically request toast (for an additional charge....). Otherwise food was good, but nothing remarkable. The restaurant is no longer a dining experience and certainly not a destination that I would recommend any more. Perhaps if they cut prices in half it would be a decent neighborhood restaurant. more

things that make you go.hmmmm 8/22/2003

Thats, hmmmmm? not yummmmmm! I'm not sure about all the hype. We had great service, but so-so food. And with all the choices this city has, I probably won't go back. The wine choices were good, not great. I ordered the Painted Hills steak, which has traditionally been pretty hard to screw up, but this tasted like beef from Safeway, not bad, just not what I was expecting. Pros: Service, Parking Cons: So-so Food more

Over-rated 7/20/2003

All you hear is how great this place is. We were very disappointed. I get the feeling that Wildwood has become to impressed with itself. The night we were there - if you didn't like fenel, there was nothing to eat. I can take using what's in season, but there's more in season in July than fenel! Please! Give us some real creativity here. Over priced, stuffy, unimpressive. The service was fine. Pros: Good service Cons: Over-rated, Not creative more

Dissapointed... 4/18/2003

I took my girlfriend to Wildwood last night for her birthday. We had a party of 6 and were all let down by the entire experience. It was noisy and chaotic. Our waitress was unattentive. Two of us ordered the ""25 for 25"" special, only to find out you get smaller portions with this. I had to eat what bread was left on the table after dinner to try and appease my hunger. I noticed there are several reviews in a row expressing my same views. We have had great experinces here in the past, but probably won't go back again. It isn't worth spending this kind of money and risking another crappy experience. Go to Higgins instead... Cons: noisy, expensive, bland food more

Another Negative Review 4/16/2003

Wish I had read these reviews before spending $$$ on an enormously disappointing meal. Although the food was quite good, the chaotic atmosphere and terrible service won't bring me back any time soon. Pros: Inventive Menu Cons: Terrible service, Chaotic Atmosphere more

Don't believe the hype! 4/11/2003

There are too many fabulous places to eat in Portland without setting foot in Wildwood. We've tried it twice (in case the first experience was a fluke), and never again. The service on both occasions was terrible. And it wouldn't hurt the staff to write the orders down. I'd rather have you take a minute to place pencil to paper than have everyone at my table finish their meals before mine even comes because you brought me the wrong entree. Pros: location Cons: service, selection more

Don't waste your $$$$ 4/8/2003

I went there during the weekend to try it out. It started out quite nice with the appetizer (salad with fried oyster). Unfortunately, it went downhill from that. The entree (halibut) was flavorless and overcooked and the portion was quite small. The dessert (sorbet) was sour and again quite small. It is the first three course meal that I had which left me hungry afterward. I wish that the cost was as small as the portion. Pros: nice location, good appetizer Cons: small portion, cost, flavorless entree more

Wildwood 3/5/2003

Very disappointing for a special night out; I had heard such good things. the menu was less than inspiring for starters. the entrees were very pricey, small quantities, the place could have been any nice hotel restaurant in the US. more

Poor Service 2/18/2003

After eating out in Portland for 9 days because of business travel we thought this would be another hot spot to hit. The salad we ordered was great but the Salmon was aweful. Lacked flavor. Also, the main complaint was the service. The server was rude and it seemed like we were doing him a favor for dining at the restaurant. more

Service with a smile 2/14/2003

Wildwood has a zippy atmosphere - trendy, happening...you can lose yourself amonth the comotion. It seems quite busy most eves - and the noise does carry, but it offers a nice seclusion. The food was well prepared, but the offerings on the menu were limited - so if you a particular, head somewhere else. The service rocks - they are willing to ask ""how high"" when you say jump. Pros: Happening, Great Ambiance, Trendy Cons: Jammed, Crazy, Loud more

The Real Northwest 1/29/2003

Wildwood is one of the very few restaurants that prides itself on local and ""Fresh"" ingredients. It is this drive that makes there food taste so good. You can have anything on the menu and leave guilt free due to the fact that it is all organic. No worries about ingesting chemicals or hormones. The dishes are simple and elegant and highlight the natural flavor in each ingredient. The atmosphere is relaxed and upbeat. The open kitchen offers a look into the men and women who make your outstanding dishes possible. A beautiful place to enjoy the wonderful flavors of the northwest. Pros: good parking, Good Service, good food more

One of our top 3 favorite restaurants 1/6/2003

Very rare do we have the chance to throw our money around for food that we don't cook in our own kitchen. Sometimes we get disappointed by restaurants because we manage to cook the same dish at home, which ends up being 5x better. But when we feel lazy & want to splurge, Wildwood is one of the top 3 pricey restaurants we like to go to. I truly believe you should visit a place twice before making a judgement in public. Like People, restaurants may have their ""bad days"". Fortunately, we have not experienced that with Wildwood. Besides the super friendly service and beautiful decor, the best part of each dish is that most of the contents are local and mostly farm raised and/or organic! The chefs take pride in their creation. And you can tell with each bite you take! more

Enormous Disappointment 12/26/2002

Having heard good things about Wildwood for some time I was looking forward to an exceptional dining experience. On 24 December 2002 my disappointment could not have been more complete. Salads ($10) were not great. The kitchen was very slow between courses. Entrees -- Lamb Shank ($28) and Flat Iron Steak ($29). Both were inedible and poorly presented. Instead of the fine steak expected this was tough and laced with gristle. The lamb was worse. Having had lamb all my life I expected something slow roasted and flavorable. Instead I was served a shank that was so overcooked it was unrecognizeable. The meat was, at the same time, dry and mushy -- very unappealing. We mentioned the steak to the waiter and without question it was removed from the bill (kudos). At this point we had lost our appetites, skipped dessert and exited quickly -- never to return again. Cons: Many more

Once is enough... 12/19/2002

Somewhat new to Portland, this was one of the restaurants that I've heard a buzz about, Food Channel etc... While most things were what one would expect from a ""premier"" restaurant, there were a few things that didn't quite match up. My first impression came when I made the reservation over the phone. The person taking it was short and hurried, interrupting me and trying to repeat back info before I was finished giving it. The hostess wasn't as seasoned as I would have expected, although adequately cordial. The food was very good, but there were no ""wows"". Quite pricey but it was expected. Nice to have experienced but not a place I would make an effort to revisit. more
