Whities Pets

My family has been coming to Whitie's my whole life. And now I am bringing my own childern in to do the same thing, to share the same experiences with them. Sometimes to shop, and other times just to look at the animals. My childern get excited as soon as they recognize that we are in the area of Whitie's, and very rarely can we drive by with out having to stop in. That's just one of the things about this store that warms my heart so much. IT'S WELCOMING. It feels comfortable in there. My childern can run around and look at the animals and I don't feel like my family is intruding. We haven't been so lucky in other chain pet stores like Petsmart. Whitie's is owned and operated by family, Such a cool thing about that is that as a customer, i know the faces of the Shafer family. I've seen generation after generation of Shafers in the store, and now there is even little Shafers running around the place. That's probably why my family feel so at home there. It's a family oriented enviroment. But on the more business side of things, I've noticed a lot of improvment around the store over the last few years. I love that they adopt dogs and cats out for the SPCA. And they do this on a daily bases, not just on select days of the week or month (which i belive other pet stores do). I feel that shows a full comiment and dedications to the cause of finding homes for these pets, not just a part time one. I wouldnt shop in any other store. more

I'm a native Fresnan born & raised, and I have always shopped at Whitie's, you can always have your questions answered and great service. Do you want cheap China prices with no service or pay a few dollars and get service and answers to your questions. With all the influx of L.A. and S.F. people and businesses flooding our valley with the usual big city attitude, it's great that we still have some of our native Fresno business still here and thriving. Keep up the great work!!! more

High price and a horrible salt water section. The saltwater fish are always sick!! Stay away from this store. more

Whities Pets is way overpriced!!! I mean come on 15 dollars for a plain old collar? Wow. And then theres their return policy; 48 hours. Now thats rediculous. My sister bought two Netherlen Dwarf Bunnie there and asked the saleslady what bedding she should use in the cage and the lady told her to use pine. Well a few days past the 48 hour return policy, the male bunny gets an upper-respitory infection. Comes to find out pine bedding is bad for bunnies because pine oil and dust makes them sick. Thank god we got to return the bunny; but only because we mentioned the pine bedding. The messed up thing about it is that Whities uses pine bedding in the cages that they store the bunnies in. And i do have to agree; they over crowd the cages and NEVER clean them. more

Prices are a bit high. They do carry several brands of dog food and other products that are hard to find. The staff is knowledgeable and friendly. more

this is the worst cas of animal cruelty , those animals (mice, ect) are over crowed its just sad i have reported this store to animal cruelty and i discourage others the shop there more

I've shoped at whities off and on since I was a kid. It's always been on a bit on the pricy side for SOME things but bait for reptiles is always substantially cheaper than PetsMart of Petco. Shelly, a reptile handler has superior knowledge and goes out of her way to help. Pros: Knowledgable Reptile/Aquatic staff Cons: Live Bird Section is deplorable! more

Whitie's is a good pet store if you're looking for a place to stock your fish tank. They have a large verity of fresh water fish, even salt water and their fish are at a good price. Also, you can never go wrong with Feeder fish that cost 10 cents each. The only down side is that the products that they sell are a bit pricey. more

I have shopped Whitie's off and on for the past 30 years. It has always been the place for tropical fish, turtles, birds, and puppies/kittens. But it also has some of the most unique items for pets. I was just in the store recently and was amazed at the service and the variety of supplies they have preserved for so many years. Many things I could not find in the "super stores" (even though I have tried) were there. It is still the local owned and operated neighborhood pet store! They work with and for their customers. more

Whitie's Pets has improved in their service. Their selection is not the best in town, and the place has been pretty cluttered and even dirty the last few times I have been in there.\r I prefer to go elsewhere. more

I had my first experience with Whities when I moved down to Fresno from Northern California. I wanted a "good" pet shop, and was shown Whities. Whities contains a small-town, locally owned feel with knowledgable sales people. Teenagers can be seen maning the cash register, but this teens show a passion for animals not seen anywhere else but the local aspca. If they can't help you, they direct you to management, who will supply you with answers and make sure you leave satisfied. While the prices are a little on the expensive side, I find myself choosing Whities over other Pet Store chains simply because the customer service is worth the price. Going there, I know I can get exactlly what I need, and I do not need to worry about studying up on anything before I get there- their knowledgable sales people are there to answer my questions. I love to take my grandchildren to Whitie's. Even if we're just looking in the window. They love to see the different varieties of dogs in their cages. As for myself, I like seeing the more unusual pets, like turtles and snakes that are in the back. They have birds and fish too. Pretty much anything you'd be looking for and they're nice and friendly too. more

We purchased some fish here about a year ago. They had some small goldfish that were very reasonably priced. It was a fun experience to go in and look at all the different species. They have a wonderful variety of all animals in there. It's like a zoo. We still enjoy our goldfish and watch it getting bigger and bigger. A great place to take your children to buy a pet and all their fine products. more
