Best

we feel very at ease whenever we are in the W. its a cozy place and the people are very attentive and pleasant.

Worst

To be fair, the atmosphere is great ...what can you say,but its the W. Clean lines, cool setting. But the service stinks and the bar area is EXTREMELY small, sure they have more ...

Modern Heaven 12/16/2011

The Seattle W is a newer modern hotel, near Pike Place Market and the waterfront. The rooms are clean, comfortable, with many amenities. Staff is great. This is a great place to stay for a romantic night out. Plenty of great dining options nearby. more

Our Regular Hotel In Seattle 6/29/2006

Amy and I are in Seattle a few times a year. We stay at The W Hotel whenever we are here. The hotel is edgy and modern - typical W - and we like it a lot. The rooms are large and as you get above the 15th floor have incredible views (2002 is our favorite room.) The bar scene is usually hopping, the appetizers - especially the "Sexy Fries" are awesome, and the service is nice. There's a small workout room, but I usually just put on my running shoes and head down to the water and then take a right on Alaskan way - it's a nice long (> 4 miles) boardwalk that goes through a park at about mile 2. Finally, there's a Starbucks literally across the street so it's easy to bring my princess her vente latte first thing in the morning after I get back from my run. more

Modern and fun 6/26/2006

I put my parents up in this hotel when they are here. It's great fun. The decor is super chic and the bar down stairs has some fun drinks. It has a very young hip feel but still is great for the older folks. more

Bring your black! 5/12/2006

Bring your hippest black clothes and you'll fit right in here. I really like the W hotel in Seattle and it black and white, modern decor. In some areas it does feel like it's trying too hard to be cool - but that's ok, because it IS cool. The restaurant is very good and very popular with the downtown lunch crowd. Rooms are spacious and comfy and the service is great. more

Starwoods hotels 4/12/2006

Like another poster, I have always been a great fan of Starwood hotels. They are clean, convenient, accessible, and always on the hipper side. The W hotel in Seattle is the pride of the branch, in my opinion. The decor can be a little forced-modernist, but otherwise, the setting mixes casual with trendy flavors. The bar-scene is always the place to be. The rooms are small but clean and the beds are stacked high with fluffy duvets and such. Great downtown location and near all the hot shops and venues. Give it a try! more

Favorite place to stay in Seattle 8/19/2005

I really do love this hotel and always have. It’s my favorite place to stay in Seattle. I like the Sheraton, have a bit of love-hate with the Westin, but the W is my first choice. Upgrades: There are only about 8 suites here, half of which are smoking and one of which is ‘accessible’ so there aren’t a lot of suite upgrade opportunities. But a Kool Korner room on a high floor has never been a problem. When I stayed in May 2005 there was a large conference booked over several days staying at the hotel, and they’d wrapped up a bunch of the small number of suites that the hotel had. Plus Snoop Dogg was staying there. So I was in a Kool Korner room. I did notice a few areas of the room where form overtakes function. I didn’t have enough drawers. 1/3 of the chest is taken up by the safe and it’s only about half the size of the usual hotel chest. (Regular rooms seem to have more chest space, oddly enough.) Our first night at the hotel we had dinner at the hotel’s restaurant, Earth & Ocean. It’s much improved over two years ago. The chef is very creative with presentation and they offer very high quality meat and fish. The sweetbreads were a nice size with no sinew whatsoever. Despite the food, though, it’s not a great restaurant, at least it wasn’t on this occasion. Service lacked. Several times they dropped silverware by the table. I cringed when someone in the party asked for a Miller Lite and the waiter said “I don’t think so. But I’ll check.” with a roll of the eyes. He never returned to the subject (such as to followup and apologize for not having the first choice, and perhaps offer a suggested alternative). Ordered room service breakfast around 6:30, it arrived in 14 minutes. I had an excellent avocado, bacon, and cheese omellette. Truly delicious. The food at the W, from the restaurant to room service to banquet, is good across the board. For folks who haven’t been there, it’s a typical W: lighting is dark, ‘hip’ music plays in the lobby. There’s a funky ‘living room’ in the lobby to relax in. The bar scene is trendy. Rooms are comfortable. The hotel aspires to be high-end in service, touting its ‘Wherever/Whenever” line (they’ll handle any need you have) but this is no Four Seasons or Ritz-Carlton. Hotel employees are mostly attractive twenty-somethings dressed in black, and not as well-trained in service as are staff at the high-end chains. If you want refined service, stay across the street at the Fairmont. The W is funky, fun, and for me comfortable. It’s sometimes surprisingly inexpensive. TravelZoo sometimes promotes great deals, I’ve seen it for as little as $139 there. It occasionally participates in Starwood’s cash & points award program, which this year means 4000 Starwood points and $60 for a night. But without deals it can run $230 or more, even $289. I’m not sure it’s worth twice the price of the nearby Sheraton. more

W Seattle 8/5/2005

I stayed at the W Seattle when it first opened. I had the opportunity to take a tour of the hotel prior to its opening. This hotel was fantastic. I have always been a fan of Starwood hotels and the W is one of the best chains I have seen. The rooms are small but are incredibly decorated. I love the color scheme. The bar in the hotel was very cool an different. It is a young person's hotel in that it is luxurious but not ornate like Ritz Carltons. more

  • In Short
This downtown hot spot is ground zero for the beautiful and sexy, who eat well and feel fabulous. Settle into one of the enormous, semicircular velvet booths for primo people-watching. The munchies are as chic as the patrons: fries with truffle oil, Big Eye Tuna tartare and mini-grinders with house-cured meats. Try a specialty cocktail from the long menu--the flavorful Hey Ginger! has ginger puree floating amongst gin, triple sec and lime juice.
