Sushi samba but no ramba 4/22/2010

Ive been meaning to check out Village Sushi for some time now, and having occasionally stopped by the neighborhood this wasnt an easy option. My mother who is by no means a japanese fan, swore thats it worth a try. We went for lunch and the place for deserted except for a single lunch diner and us. We ordered 2 bento boxes, one with sashimi special and the other with shrimp and veggie tempura. Neither was particularly memorable. In fact the highlight was the ginger and carrot dressing on the small side salad. The fish was OK but bland. The tempura was heavily breaded and though visually appealing, greasy on the pallet. ill be willing to give this place a try, but am reluctant to be disappointed again. Pros: All your typical sushi/sashimi options Cons: Greasy tempura, average sushi. more

Great sushi!!!!!! 8/14/2006

We love this spot - great outdoor seating, wait staff is excellent and the sushi is very good. This is the sister restaurant to JP Seafood Cafe in JP on Centre Street. more

With the same ownership as famous JP Seafood, you can expect fresh, creative sushi offerings and enough other quality fare that even sushi-phobes will have a hard time deciding. Service and ambience are very respectable, if not awe inspiring. But the food is fantastic and the bill won't make you cry. On a late summer evening, the grotto is a wonderful place to sip sake, share a few rolls, and just pass the time. more

Super Sushi!!! 9/2/2003

Whether its the Village Special Obento Luch Box, the Jamaica Plain Maki (Salmon, Cream Cheese, and Cucumber), Teriyaki Swordfish Steak, or just Miso Soup, everything at Village Sushi is great. The seafood is fresh and tasty -- you almost don't need the ginger, tamari, or wasabi (though it is very good with these condiments). I also like the chopsticks -- a minor detail for some, but too often (at other restaurants) they split or splinter; the ones here are smooth and solid, making it easy for those who are chopstick-phobic to east their sushi and sashimi. Parking in Roslindale Center can sometimes be tough, but Village Sushi is worth driving around the block a few times for a parking space -- and definitely worth the drive from where I live (near Rt. 495/Mass Pike). Highly recommended! Pros: Variety, Great Value, Comfortable Cons: Parking more
