Value Brake - Don't waste your time or money! 11/18/2007

I have never written a review before until now; however, I feel that this one is absolutely necessary. I have actually read many reviews prior to my writing this one. Those reviews prevented me from wasting time and money so I feel I should do the same for other unsuspecting customers. I took my car to Value Brakes instead of the dealer for new rotors and pads. It was my first time going outside of the dealer for any repairs and I now regret it. I would easily have paid $100 more in hindsight. My brakes sound like two cement bricks constantly rubbing against each other. They sound more like a freight train when you actually use them. When I called to inquire about it, the service rep was rude and made it clear that she did not fix the car so she can't help me. The machanic stated that they are breaking in. I am still trying to get them fixed but I will eventually have to accept that I have wasted my time and money and will end up going to PROFESSIONALS to have the brakes installed correctly. Warning: Usually if both the customer service and the actual service is bad at one location, it will be the same in the of the stores. So, let my mistake be your mistake and save your $money$. Pay the minor extra cost or else you will get what you pay for. Don't let the commercials fool you. You do not have to be good at what you do to have a commercial! Pros: Sounds good on the commercial Cons: You get more value flushing your money down the toilet. more

Buyer Beware! FInd someone that you can trust unless you just wish to throw your money away! 1/26/2007

I decided to have the brakes replaced on my Lincoln Navigator and my usual mechanic had no availability until tomorrow, so I took my vehicle to Value Brakes on San Jose Blvd. I arrived at 11AM and ""Jeff"" told me that it would be approximately 45 minutes to an hour before they could start on my car. I left to have lunch and returned approx 45 minutes later. It turned out to be more than 2 hours after my intial arrival before they could even look at my car. He informed me that one of my rotors fell just below spec and couldn't be turned. When I asked the price for replacing the rotor, it was $160 plus tax. Since I had looked up the parts at Advance Auto before leaving the house so that I would have an idea of costs, I declined. The rotor at Advance was $45 or so. He then recommended that I buy a better quality set of pads than the special that I had come in for since I wasn't replacing the rotor today. So instead of $98 plus tax (the special which includes turning rotors), I paid $178. Then I find out that he will offer no warranty at all. He didn't bother to let me know this before the work was done. I then asked if he had turned the other three since they were well within specs. ""No, he said"" We didn't turn any of them since you wouldn't let us replace the one rotor. My intent was to have my regular mechanic check the one in question tomorrow to confirm whether or not it was within spec. Had they turned the three that were well within spec, this would have meant only checking and turning or replacing one tomorrow; now I will need to have all four wheels inspected all over again and all four turned or three turned and one replaced. I was quite unhappy with this service and feel that I paid a lot for very little. No warranty, no rotors turned. $179 for basically just pads for 4 wheels. The pads retail for $66 total at my local parts retailer. I would advise others, especially females to steer clear of this place! Pros: Ads sound promising on the radio Cons: Still the same old rip offs that are common place with auto work more
