Best

I used to study here while in Law School. great crowd, good food, love the outside patio!

Worst

Had our 2.5 year old who is great at restaurants, tried to order from the Kid's Menu a Turkey Panini, but asked them not to ""panini"" it because our daughter isn't really into me...

great granola, salads, smoothies and lattes 9/24/2007

I love Urth on Melrose. The granola is the most delicious you will ever taste! I've had their granola/yogurt parfait and it's so yummy I bought a bag of granola to bring home for cereal. When I go for lunch, I get the pesto salad with chicken (unfortunately, the side of bread is irresistible), and my husband gets the same only in sandwich form - it's served on ciabatta bread - yuummm. The lattes are huge and delicious. And just this week, I tried my first smoothie, recommended by one of the guys at the counter: kiwi, pineapple and mango. Smoothies are served with those huge boba straws so I sucked mine right down! Now I need to try more flavors. The service is outstanding and there's no attitude - everyone is hardworking and conscientious - every restaurant owner in LA should check it out. Pros: best service in LA, tasty food Cons: takes patience to find parking more

Precious, slow, bad 8/15/2007

I used to love the Santa Monica location until everyone got an attitude. Even the guy who hands you the menu pretends he's manning the velvet rope at Studio 54 during Andy's days. And then, after waiting in too long a line to order and to pay, you have to wait even longer for the bakery goods sitting behing the counter to make it the seven yards or less to your table. Last time I was there I waited fifteen minutes for a lousy cup of coffee.\r \r Nor worth it. Pros: Once organic Cons: Poor service, lots of waiting for very little more

If you can score a seat... 5/11/2007

UC is good as far as selection of teas, bakery items, and savory foods. And it's a cute atmosphere. My only real gripe, which keeps me from eating at UC most of the time, is that it gets really crowded. I wish they would expand... But if you can manage to go during off times, and you can get a seat either inside by the fireplace, or outside for some good people watching, it's worth it. I especially like the tortilla soup and mediterranean platter. And the teas and baked goodies are yummy. Pros: Location, Organic Foods Cons: Crowded, Hard to get table/seat more

stereotypically pretetious LA scene 4/21/2007

Food is sort of average here. It's sort of vegan bland and the salads are very uninteresting. I'm fairly certain everyone must feel this way, but it's always busy with good-looking people so if that's what you are interested in, this is the place. The Beverly HIlls branch is much less of a scene than Melrose, there's actually room to sit and around the tables a working fireplace on a chilly day. I actually much prefer it to the overhyped Melrose location. more

Great soup! Great lattes!!!! 1/24/2007

For my girlfriend and I, this is our favorite cafe in Los Angeles. Their organic coffee is a great alternative to Starbucks, Coffee Bean and Peet's. It's tastier and better for you!\r \r It's often crowded and some of the people are a little ""sceney"", but the folks that work there are super sweet. They're not servers really, you order at the counter and they bring you your order when it's ready. YOU have to get your own water, so to the other reviewer in December 2006, don't blame the restaurant. You just have to get off your butt and serve yourself. You're probably not leaving a tip, so don't complain! Pros: Kind service, Great coffee and soup!!! Cons: Parking can be difficult. more

Good for people watching 12/31/2006

The most exciting part of Urth Caffe is the that we went on a sunday and didn't have to pay for metered parking. The food was ok, we asked for water from three different people...we could have seriously died of thirst. Nothing special just good LA people watching. more

Pitiful Parking, Pricey, but Delicious 11/24/2006

If you're okay with infinite circling to look for parking, and prices that are a bit steep for what you get, this spot has good food. I especially recommend the breakfast bread pudding. more

Very good, casual food. Always fresh and well prepared. Desserts are decadent. Price point is slightly high for casual fare. Great people watching, and a fun place to take a date. Parking can be a problem at peak times. Pros: cool scene. not pretentious. amazing desserts Cons: parking. only one bathroom more

Crowded but so worth it! 11/22/2006

There's a tiny parking lot across the street and some metered spots south of Melrose on Westmount. This is a fantastic place to sit out midmorning and relax with the paper and a crousannt. I absolutely love their triple-layer cheesecakes for dessert!! This particular Urth is great for seeing movie stars. Pros: awesome coffee, desserts Cons: difficult seating during rush times more

Wonderful food and desserts! 11/21/2006

I went here for lunch during a week day and it was sooo crowded but it was sooo worth the wait! I had the stuffed grape leaves and a salad with a iced chai to drink. It was soo good! And the dessert there is wonderful too! I love their tiramisu; it's terribly delicious! The atmosphere is cute, but when it gets busy, it's hard to find a place to sit. Pros: desserts Cons: limited parking; small dining room more
