INCOMPETENT, RUDE, and UTTER DISREGARD FOR PATIENT RIGHTS! 7/21/2022

I was a patient at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry (UMSOD) in 2018 and 2019. I had extensive work done and a couple of years later when the bridge broke, they were rude and refused to fix their mistake even though I was told they would ensure their work. I had also written a letter about the negative treatment I received and how rude the staff and residents were that I never received a response to until 4 years later when I gained access to the school’s directory by becoming a student (majoring in another specialty-not dentistry, of course). The Patient Ombudsman, Mr. Ronald Chenette, finally responded to my letter about my concerns that I had written 4 years prior, and completely ignored my patient rights (which, they list on their site) and made excuses for the facility and told me not to return because they do not know how to handle themselves ETHICALLY. Anxiety and Dentaphobia is one of the primary things that most dentists face in this country and they are not equipped to deal with patients who have panic attacks and anxiety when dealing with dentists. If you want quality work, and a caring dentist who upholds their mission statement and does not deny their patients basic rights, please ask your primary dentist for a referral for anywhere else but UMSOD! If you suffer from Anxiety or Dentaphobia (fear of the dentist) or get panic attacks, PLEASE GO TO A PROFESSIONAL DENTIST WHO UNDERSTANDS THESE COMMON issues. You are not the problem, if a facility cannot properly help you with your concerns and anxiety, they are the problem! more

Please avoid the dental school at UMM. 1/14/2019

Misogynist liar. He thought he was smarter than the professors supervising him so lied to them and ignored me. He made decisions about treatment plans without sharing options because he felt I wouldn't care about my teeth anyway. I was shocked but I saw him lie to one professor about conversation with we had with an older professor who'd suggested a more conservative approach. This dentist is a danger and shouldnt treat people.. he refused to shake my hand because I'm a woman. That was the first sign of trouble. He would put his hands in my mouth but refuse to shake my hand. Then he put me at risk because he ignored me because I'm a woman and he didn't pay attention when I described my medical history. He felt I couldn't afford certain options so didn't describe them to me as options. This man is a danger to patients particularly women patients. more

Awful experience 3/23/2015

Terrible experience with dentist who completely misled me about procedure. The administrative office was most unhelpful and hostile with my situation. Not only did the procedure fail miserably but, like another reviewer I, too was treated in an adversarial manner. Would not recommend more

Out of Luck 12/22/2010

Many practice good dentistry in Professional Practice Clinic. Some do not. If you are served poorly by a dentist or other practitioner there, do not expect to have the problem resolved in a patient centered way. Expect, rather, that you will be treated in an adversarial manner. Beware. more

Great education 9/4/2005

I am a student at the University of Maryland Dental School in one of their research programs (not a dental student). The school is small and professors know your name. Though the actual building now is old and somewhat outdated, a new building is almost completed and will be state-of-the-art. The campus is right in the heart of downtown near the Inner Harbor and convenient for mass transit. My friends who are dental students say that the dental program is great. Dental students have the opportunity to do research. Us research students have access to world-class faculty and high-tech labs. Research students receive free tuition, benefits, and a very competitive salary. more
