Trust me and order the mousse for dessert. FABULOUS. Understated BYOB where you can hear yourselves talk, too. more

Fantastic! 5/13/2011

We enjoyed a fabulous meal tonight and had a wonderful experience! THe baked brie w/ pear was wonderful as were the salads. Each of us had a different entree, all prepared beautifully. I recommend the filet, but the pork, ravioli and crab were also great. Dessert was worth its weight in gold- the sundae w/ homemade caramel was a wonderful ending! more

Outstanding Experience All Around 5/20/2008

My wife and I visited this restaurant probably 10 years ago, loved it, and then forgot about it. Recently, when I needed a place to take 10 people for a surprise 40 birthday party for my wife, I remembered it....and won't ever forget it again!! They were one of the few restaurants that I found that were willing to take a reservation for 10 on a Saturday night. The restaurant itself is elegant, the service great, and the food outstanding. Everyone in our party was satisfied with their meal. I had a cold cucumber and beet soup with sour cream and dill that was unbelievable. The duck that I had for my main course was great as well. The clincher---over the course of dinner we drank a lot of wine. When the bill came I paid the amount due (which was extremely reasonable by the way) and added a 20% tip not realizing that the gratuity was already added for our party of 10. The waitress could have pocketed that money and I would have never known. Instead, she returned to our table and informed me of my error. Umbria has won my business forever. I will tell everyone who will listen about this gem in Mount Airy!! Try it--you won't be disappointed. Pros: byob, great food, extremely reasonable prices Cons: Cash/Check only more

Intimate setting and fabulous food! 2/11/2007

I recently dined at Umbria with a party of 10 and we all had a lovely time. The dining room is tiny and cozy with minimalist decor. Our server was attentive and very knowledgeable about the food and gave great recommendations. The menu is also tiny with maybe about eight or tenn appetizer/salad choices and another eight or so entrees, but everything we tried was excellent-- try the baked brie and apple appetizer and the special if they have one. Actually, go with a group so you can sample as much as possible! It was so good that, when our waiter came to check on us, he commented on how quiet we were and it was because we were so engrossed in taking in the wonderful aromas and flavors and beautiful presentation of our meals! Overall, Umbria is a delightful, simple, unpretentious place for a romantic date, special occasion, or any time you feel like an exceptional meal and dining experience. I highly recommend it. Pros: BYO, food, service, ambiance more

Great Hidden Spot 5/12/2006

the food was excellent, loved the veggie pate which i have never tried before. i had a wonderful tomato fennel soup which was not cream based but could have fooled me. my entree was a halibut baked in parchment with white wine. it was OUT OF THIS WORLD! the fish was cooked to perfected, not overpowered with too many flavors and served in the parchment which made great presentation. the staff was friendly enough, the owner was there and very helpful and friendly. overall, i will be returning with more friends to spread the good word about this small BYOB. Pros: food, BYOB Cons: parking, small more

Great food with a personal touch 2/16/2006

This place doubles as both fine and casual dining. The owners and staff are personable and the food is great. This is not a great place for the vegetarian. They will accomodate if you call in advance, but this is a meat/fish place. That's what they do. Many great entrees and specials. I've had wonderful swordfish with a supertasty asian slaw, Duck is amazing, baby lamb chops with a spicy asian sauce/ actually haven't had any bad food there. I do think they could improve their vegeatble side selections a bit, but still not bad. Deserts are good but not superfancy style. Just tasty. Caramel Sundae with homemade caramel sauce is good eats. Choc mousse very chocolaty, creme caramel, and hot apple crisp with ice cream. Obviously I have been there a few times. Grab a bottle of red and treat yourself some night. Pros: food Cons: not for vegetarians more

WONDERFUL HIDDEN TREASURE! 1/25/2006

WOW! What an enchanting little place. Well worth the drive from wherever. I've been there also weekly since I found this treasure! Awesome food! Varied menu! Wonderful attentive service in a relaxed manner! RESERVATIONS are a must. Not really a bad seat in the house. A wonderful intimate evening. If you need more than two hours... take the later sittings, like 8:30 p.m. The staff is well worth my 30% tip! I will keep going back, over and over again! Pros: Waitstaff, FOOD, Varied menu Cons: I didn't notice any more

Great but Expensive 11/7/2003

It's a wonderful place to have a quiet dinner. I thought the prices were a little high for a BYOB. I will go there in the future just not with a bunch of friends. Pros: BYOB, Great Service, Food Cons: Expensive, Parking more

Hidden Gem in the rough 9/3/2002

Umbria is a hidden gem in the rough of Germantown Ave. This intimate, quiet and romantic restaurant serves consistently great food at reasonable prices. Service is attentive but not overbearing. Menu is short but usually includes some great specials. BYOB makes this a place to seek out. Pros: Consistently Food, Romantic setting, BYOB Cons: short menu, rough neighborhood more
