I have had my grandson at the U.S. Tae Kwon Do center in Worcester for almost 5 years, he is now 12 and a first degree black belt, working towards second degree. My grandaughter is 7 and a red/black belt. My 5 year old grandson is a blue belt and I just started and graduated to yellow belt the end of June. In all the time we have been at the U.S. Tae Kwon Do center I have never had a problem. Nor have any of the parents or caretakers that I have met there. Many of the people have been with the center as long as I have or longer. We use both the Shrewsbury and Worcester center. The five aims of TKS are respect, humility, perserverace, self-control and honesty. Fighting is not only frowned upon, but can cause you to lose rank. My grandchildren are all ADHD and TKD has worked wonders with them in concentration, self control and self esteem. My grandson is part of he demo team, the little ones can't wait to try out. The love going to TKD and we at the school look upon each other as extended family. As for the teachers at the school -- they are all graduates of Korean Tae Kwon Do colleges and carry the credentials to prove it. Yes students help with classes. The black belts help during class because they are learning to be instructors. They get their hours in helping the younger students (or lower belts) and the students get a little one on one instruction. The Masters at both Tae Kwon Do centers are wonderful with the kids (and we adults). I can't say enough good things about both centers and the instructors. The instructors at the school have been there the past four years. We did have two instructors who left (four years ago -- one left to care for aging parents and another left because his wife got a great job offer across the country). But our instructors are always there for us.
