We liked the bread, salad and dessert ok but the entrees were horrible. The Risotto was really sweet and just didn't taste right. The lasagna was very greasy. For as much as th...

Where's my wine? 3/13/2007

We went to Tuscany on a Saturday night and were seated in the boonies - upstairs and perhaps way too far from the bar? In any event, we ordered a bottle of Pinot Noir and had to send it back because it was undrinkable. We did not get a wine list until we were already into our appetizers. When the waitress finally took our orders we were on our salads and did not get served our 2 glasses of wine until we were on our entrees. Given that we are wine drinkers, this was completely irritating and practically ruined our meal. The appetizer of smoked salmon on hearthbread was delicious, the ceaser salads mediocre. My husband's pork chop was outstanding, but my chicken scallopine was smothered in a sauce that was so rich it actually made my stomach turn. more

Another Reason to Avoid the Valet 12/22/2006

The valet parking does have a problem: THE VALETS DON'T GET TO KEEP THEIR TIPS. These kids don't see a dime of whatever you give them, so don't do the restaurant any more favors- you're already paying $30 a plate. more

Avoid the valet parking if at all possible 11/28/2006

Just average and pricey...$17.95 for Lasagne, come on, $34.95 for a New York strip? Where am I? Manhatten? I don't think so. Limited wine list. I ordered wine by the glass....not by the half glass which is what I got. Overall you could do much better in SLC than Tuscany for Italian fare. Cigar and cigarette smoke wafts into the dining area from the bar. \r \r The parking is terrible. It is by valet only! I'm from out of town and learned the hard way. Over $100.00 for dinner, and over $500.00 for valet parking. Pros: None come to mind Cons: Parking more

Elegant! 11/16/2006

If you want romance and fine dining - this is the place! Beautiful atmosphere - tantalizing food - amazing service - a true touch of elegance in our city. I would recommend The Tuscany if you want to impress your significant other or relatives or co-workers. more

Not what it used to be 10/6/2006

We've eaten at Tuscany at least once a year for upwards of 7 years now. It was always a great place for special occasions and to impress out of town guests. Unfortunately over that last few years (since about 2004) the quality of both food and service have steadily declined. Our last visit was for a wedding anniversary and the food was terrible. Their classic ravioli (which was better when it was tortellini) now comes in a barely palatable mushroom sauce. Their crusted salmon, once a safe bet, was served smelling unusually fishy (not fresh) and was the worst salmon I've been served in years - I felt like I was eating in a hotel restaurant. The waitress was good, but the supplemental service was terrible. The individuals who brought the food and filled the water ranged from terse to outright grumpy. The only highlights were the wine, which was excellent as usual, and the tiramisu, which was superb. It's sad to say, but after close to a decade of patronage I think we'll be saving our money and eating somewhere else next time. Pros: Excellent wine list, deserts, and atmosphere Cons: The food and service aren't what they used to be more

Excellent restaurant for non-Utahns 7/8/2006

We first visited Tuscany based on the recommendations of friends from a different part of the country. Unlike the countless chain restaurants in this area, Tuscany is much more like restaurants we've been accustomed to in major metropolitan areas. If you're looking for the typical SLC dining experience, don't go to Tuscany. If you're looking for good food with great atmosphere, you should try Tuscany. We are definitely repeat customers! more

consistently above average for $, nice wine list 3/15/2006

After easting at tuscany a few times a year for 7+ years, I have never had anything bad to say about it. The setting and ambiance are wonderful - outside dining in the summer is very nice. The wine list is usually pretty good, well varied, and reasonably priced (by both bottle and glass). It's the only restaurant in town that i've been able to order the delightful hungarian dessert wine, Tokaji Aszu (some time ago though). The food ranges from good to excellent. It's always above average, and well presented, but i've yet to experience a knock-out dish. The higher prices are just off the top tier, making it a pretty good value overall. The menu is varied enough that with a little effort, alot you can get in and out rather inexpensively. Pros: atmosphere, wines, prices Cons: unexciting more

The Hype Makes Sense 3/9/2006

I recently dined at Tuscany for Valentines Day, as I had heard that the atmosphere was amazing. Having read the reviews, I did not expect much from the kitchen. I was soundly surprised by the wonderful dishes we enjoyed that evening. Our waiter was very helpful, and very fun. The Pork Chop is incredibly delicious, and is worth the price of the entire meal by itself. The appetizers were great, and I loved the Gelato and Cake for dessert. I will definitely be back! Pros: Great Waiter, Pork Chop , Ambience Cons: Didn't take Coat more

Great Atmosphere, average food. 1/3/2006

I have visited Tuscany twice. I would rate the atmosphere as top notch, but have not been overly impressed with the food. The menu offers some dishes that may not be available everywhere else, but the quality/taste has never really impressed me for the price and all the hype. Service on my last visit was slowwwwww (several Holiday parties, but I still should not expect to wait a full 3o minutes to give a drink order). Overall a nice place, but still has room for improvement Pros: Atmosphere, Wine Selection Cons: Average Food more

It's been awhile... 10/15/2005

I was glad to be back at Tuscany and looking forward to an exceptional dining experience. We were promptly seated- our hostess was kind. Our waitress was exceptional! Had I not known she was still in training, I wouldn't have guessed. Our appetizers were prompt and delicious. My husbands pork chops were tasty, although the plating and presentation left something to be desired. My lamb shank was average. I've had better. The other couples we came with all enjoyed their meals and the kitchen was very accommodating regarding special preferences and food allergies. At 10:15 a very boorish valet stood at the end of the table. We all looked at him as he produced a wad of keys and asked Are any of these yours? Not the best way to top off the evening. Overall, Id give Tuscany a fair rating today. I hope my next experience is better. Pros: Ambience Cons: Testy Valet attendant more

Not worth my breath 8/19/2005

This review is a waste of time - because CitySearch will never print it, this is the second time I've submitted it and this is not the first time this has happened. This place has nothing going for it except the ground and who can eat those. Reading other reviews, I get the feeling that my experience is more of the norm despite their high rating and popularity. Why do I bother, I was taken there and next time I will decline regardless if I appear a snob. Who cares, I'll never set foot in this place again!!!! Pros: the grounds Cons: everything, Phony, Phony more

Tuscany has gone downhill 8/10/2005

I visited tuscany recently and had a $35 steak that was advertised as a Prime steak. The steak was cooked right, but was incredibly tough and had no flavor. It was obviously not a high grade of meat. The service was very poor, and we felt ignored. Also their pricing has gone up while quality has deteriorated. Pros: Ambience Cons: Food, Service, Value more

WORST BIRTHDAY DINNER EVER!! 9/13/2004

It took a very long time to be waited on. They were out of the tortellini the reason I wanted to go (I was 7 1/2 months pregnant) the waiter told me he would recommend me the steak ""Because I LOOKED like a steak eater."" I dont know who was more upset by the comment my husband or me. I ordered a chicken dish, got the wrong one. Then the server argued with me and my husband insisted it was what I ordered, and finally took it back. When I got my meal twenty minutes after my husband was done with his, it was cold and gross and I didn't eat it. The manager wouldn't take it off our bill! However, he said on our next visit he would comp me the tortellini I was craving so much. We will never be going back to get it. Cons: , Managment, Overpriced more

Cross off my list. 5/19/2004

Personally I like to valet park when I go out to dine. The service was polite, but ackward. I was asked to order my entree before I even saw the wine list. I can't speak badly...I just didn't feel like the service measured up to the prices. The food was average. I'd rather have stayed home and cooked. When I dine I want to enjoy something beyond my culinary abilities. Pros: Nice location, Fair wine list more

Ho-hum 4/6/2004

Very disappointing. I guess for a Salt Lake restaurant it's decent. It was our anniversary and we wanted a romantic night out. We were seated next to a table of 20 teens who had cell phones that never stopped ringing. The food was ""good"" but nothing that would keep me wanting to go back for more. more

Absolutely Great!!! 1/21/2004

I was dining at Tuscany and had a fantastic experience. From the incredible decor to the fine dining service, you can't go wrong. The food is definetly a value for the quality that you receive. What I love most is the open kitchen. It adds entertainment value to the experience. The Camamari and Carpaccio are my favorite appetizers. It is a great place to bring a first date on a Friday night. Best Martinis in town, in a very unique bar setting. Try the Cajun martini the best!!! Pros: Great service, Fantastic food, Excellent ambiance more

Very POOR service 7/12/2003

I went to tuscay for a big fancy group party. the waitress brought me the wrong dish which was fish! I don't eat fish, she refused to bring the right meal. Plus still gave herself a 30% tip. I called management they didn't do anything about it. Pros: location Cons: poor service, poor manangement more

How dissapointing... 6/18/2003

Last night I made a terrible mistake when deciding where to dine in celebration of my Wedding Anniversary. I chose Tuscany. First, our reservations were made for 7:30 pm, we weren't seated until almost 8:00 pm. Then, it took 20 minutes to get drinks, and an hour and a half to receive our entrees. Finally, our food arrives, my wife and I were hoping our patience would pay off. Wrong! My over priced entree was the size of my fist and my wife's entree wasn't even edible. After my wife and I finished sharing the worlds smallest entrees, we left and will never return. The moral of this story is simple. If you want a night to be special and perfect, don't go to Tuscany for dinner. You could receive similar service and food at your local Chinese Buffet for a fraction of the price! Pros: Friendly Bartender, Beautiful patio Cons: Terrible Food, Poor Service, Over-rated more

Mediocrity at its best 2/2/2003

My family dined there a few weeks ago. Staff wouldn't even slide two tables together for us, had to do it ourselves with servers looking down their noses at us, like we were doing them some sort of favor. Mom, celebrating her birthday, was served last. (uh, HELLO servers! Ladies first, oldest to youngest!) I tried Tuscany 3 times when they first opened. I just kept thinking, ""It wasn't really THAT bad, was it?"" Guess what? It was. Not worth the price, valets have no clue, bummed I missed the cat - of course, the cat probably went over to the Cotton Bottom, better leftovers. more

too little for too much 1/11/2003

I had heard mixed reviews about Tuscany before trying it. I am surprised now that they were mixed. The food was served cold. The feeling was as I if we were doing them a favor going to their restaurant. The food was borderline bland. Nothing was good about the whole experience. I have never felt so unwelcome and so cheated in a restaurant in my life. I have been to less expensive restaurants and had far better experiences and more expensive restaurants and felt like I've gotten much more for my money. I would not go back. Pros: valet parking, nice bathrooms Cons: food, service, attitude more
