We loved it! 4/3/2009

I read all the negatives, can't believe it's the same place. Server (Anthony) was 100% the pro, but also very freindly and caring. I got the free birthday dinner, but even so, pricing was not out of line to other fine dining restaurants in the area. Food very interesting, but no ""elf-sized"" portions. Dessert out of this world, love the Grand Piano, but keep the piano player from taking so many breaks! Pros: Memorable for all the right reasons Cons: Mandatory Valet, Pricy Wines more

What a hipe!! Will never go back!! 3/10/2008

What a hipe this restaurant is. We heard that this was such a great place to eat so we took our daughter for her 21st birthday. We were so dissapointed. The service was horrible, the food was below average and not to mentioned it being overpriced. I wonder what kind of food and service the people who have rated it 5 stars are use to. more

Wonderful Experience 1/26/2008

My husband and I celebrated our birthdays together at Tribute. What a wonderful experience! The food is incredible and the service is fantastic. Isn't it great to dine in a restaurant, take your time eating fantastic food and not once have that feeling that you are being ""rushed""? It's all about the complete dining experience. Is it expensive? Tribute is priced higher than other restaurants in the area, but definately worth it. Sitting with a loved one listening to the soft jazz music in the background, dining on delicious food and having time to enjoy each other's company, we highly recommend to others and will dine there again in the future. more

Horrible and pompous service, you are better off going somewhere else. 1/3/2008

Horrible experience, will never go back again...\r For all of the hype and great ratings, I thought my fiance and I would enjoy it for a great top notch dinner.\r It was horrible and the snooty service was not willing to do anything extra or at the very least there job!\r We didn't receive our bottle of wine until 50 min. into our meal and the servers acting as if we were bothering them when we asked where it was! We filled our own wine glasses because there wasn't anyone around to do it for us and the food wasn't even that gourmet. I have been to many fine ding restaurants in the Detroit area and this was by far the worst I have ever had. \r Huge mistake on choosing this place to drop 250 dollars on two meals. I could have received more attentive service at an Applebess, or even a McDonald's! Pros: WIne selection- IF they have the bottle you want! Cons: Horrible pompous staff more

Will never go back 12/22/2007

Pre-fixed lunch menu with no offerings for a vegetarian. The best they could do is enlarge the side salad, but for the same price as the entrees. Terrible service, arrogant and condescending waiter. Nice atmosphere but a general snootieness from the entire staff.\r \r Food was mediocre at best. Not even as good as Applebees. more

Good food. Bad service, atmosphere 7/29/2007

First, the food is very good. Presentation is excellent. I have visited almost all of the expensive restaurants in the Detroit metro area and the food is comparable.\r \r Now that we got that out of the way, service gets an F. Expect to be ignored for considerable periods of time. If you ask for the wine list, you are put in a ""queue"" for the sommelier (we waited about an hour). And then he has a surly attitude. Ask him to describe certain wines and he will pick one for you - ""I really don't recommend the other ones."" How about telling the customer about the wine and letting him/her make the decision?\r \r The restaurant will admit anyone - wear your ""I'm with Stupid"" T-shirt, apparently as long as you can pay you are in. And yes, bring the whole family, including the babies who roam around the restaurant bothering other patrons. Laugh at the top of your lungs, walk around the restaurant drunk. Nobody seems to want to stop you.\r \r When I'm going for an expensive meal, I want top-notch service and a memorable night out as much as good food. This restaurant clearly fails the test. Pros: Good food and presentation Cons: Noisy, poor service more

Way Way Overpriced Has Been 1/9/2007

I have been coming here for 4 years. They changed chefs in 2005 and things are clearly not the same. This place was known for its ecclectic asian/french fusion cuisine with nteresting flavor and textural elements. No more. The prices are in the sky (actually in outer space) $150 a head for the 12 course tasting menu. Flavor combinations like peanut butter and celery just don't get it for me. What this is is an imitation of what it used to be, and even the service has sufferered a severe loss. Avoid this overpriced pretentous has been! Pros: Sleek atmosphere Cons: Food, prices, rushed service more

If they had as many menu choices as press releases, it would be better! 12/8/2006

Too many people buy into the hype that small portions and astronomically high prices make a restaurant chic! The food is creative, tasty and beautiful. The service is also very adept. However, most of the accompaniments are a one or two bite thing. The menu choices were disappointingly limited. As has been stated in other reviews, it is just TOO PRICEY!! Maybe we are spoiled by Roy Yamiguchi's places, but this certainly didn't meet our expectations of the ""fusion"" restaurant concept. Pros: Tasty tidbits Cons: HUGE PRICES more

Wow is an under statement 2/14/2006

We have been here several times and it is 100% consistant. A seasonal menu which changes constantly guarantees that you will always be eating something different every time. Go for the price fixed menu, either meat or vegetarian is sure to please. Do the wine pairings, they will pour a multitude or interesting options. What can I say, ultra-chic, amazing service, amazing asian inspired fusion cuisine, it is hard to find a better option in Detroit, or anywhere for that matter! Pros: Service, Food creations, Wine pairings more

I don't get the hype???? 11/10/2005

I don't get the hype I thought the food was good, don't get me wrong, but $450 for two and you leave and you feel like you need to pick up a pizza to get fille, I don't think so. And I was pregnant and my husband had two drinks. It is not like the bill was stacked with a couple bottles of wine. And maybe that is why we were treated so poorly because we were not drinking a lot??? The place was beautiful, but not worth the price at all. more

Not up to it's past 10/30/2005

Ever since Takashi left things have seemed to be going downhill. The prices have increased, but yet the portions have seemed to become smaller. It used to be one of the only fine dining restaurants that I would leave full from, but the two times I have gone this year I still feel a little empty when I left. The menu doesn't seem as imaginative and not all the combinations seem to work. I never thought I would say this, but I feel there are now better places to eat around Detroit then Tribute. more

Still superb 4/24/2005

I was a little nervous trying Tribute under the new chef since we had loved it so much before. Thankfully nothing has changed. The service was still the best I have ever had in a restaurant and the food may be even better, if possible. This will hopefully always be our favorite restaurant. Pros: phenomenal service, great food, knowledgeable staff more

The new pastry chef is excellent! His creations are creative and delicous. The Egg, as always, is to die for! Pros: The Egg, The Egg, The Egg more

AVOID FOR BUSINESS DINING 2/15/2005

If you want to spend 3 and a half hour for a dinner, $185 for two, 40 minutes for a cheese plate, eat tainted crab cakes, and have to ask twice for a soufle then you should go. However if you invite a business partner avoid this restaurant and pass the word. The place is overrated. Food mediocre along with the attitude of servers. Of course we tipped accordingly. more

First time back to Tribute with new Chef on Friday Feb 12. 2005. We were very impressed. The whole experience was wonderful. We tried the Degustation menu with the wine pairings. The food was incredible, interesting and well presented; the wine was likewise; well-paired with the food and presented by the wine staff in a fun, informative and unpretentious way. The service was attentive but not smothering. As it should be, the staff anticipated well and was there when you wanted them there and not there when you didn't. We highly recommend Tribute. more

State of Mind 5/25/2004

Photograph worthy dishes. A different taste sensation with every bite. A wine list that is the best in the state and one of in the country. This is definitely not for everyone. You must have an open mind and let the chef do his majic. I will say that if I could, I would dine there the 5 nights a week that they are open. My advice: do the degustation with the wine pairing!! WOW. Thanks again Tribute.... Pros: Most creative food, Fun yet professional, Beautiful decor Cons: , Chef should mingle, Limited bar area more

Best in Detroit 10/26/2003

Japanese touches to the French cuisine really pleased our palates. Everything we had was superb -- seafood appetizer consisting of 5 different sushi-size concoctions. Mixed green salad. A white bean soup (served over tender veal). Entrees of steak (almost melts in the mouth) w/ subtle wasabi flavoring and sea bass w/ matsutake sauce. Plus desserts of Yuzu Tart and Mille Feulle. The experience was superb albeit more pricey than the kinds of places we normally frequent. Expect to spend $15 for an appetizer and $30-$40 for entrees. $10 or more for a glass of wine. The wife says we should go back monthly (yeah, right). It was the perfect place to spend our anniversary. The only problem is that I won't be able to top it next year! According to their website reservations are required every day so give them a call in advance. Pros: Exquisite, Delicious Cons: Pricey more

Tribute--an excellant choice 10/23/2003

Tribute is by far the best dining experience in the metro Detroit area, and likely one of the best in the nation. I have been to Tribute on 5 occasions, and each one has been exemplary in terms of service, food and wine. Every single member of the staff goes out of their way to provide excellent service. I especially recommend the degustation (many course sampler menu). Although it is pricey at $75-$85 per person, you will receive a full explanation of each course, how it is prepared by the chef, etc. I have tried several dishes that I would not otherwise order a la carte, and each one has been excellent. The wine tasting ($50 per person, or a couple can share 1 wine tasting order) is also superb, and the staff go out of their way to accomodate special requests and to custom tailor each selection. Pros: excellent food, service, uniqueness Cons: pricey more

AMAZING 6/13/2003

Nothing compares to the experience at Tribute. The food is truly memorable, every bites sticks in your memory. The service is outstanding and the decor is truly stunning. I've eaten all around the nation, and this truly stands out. PLus I heard the Chef just won the cooking world's version of the Oscar for Best Chef! more

Amazing Food and Service - Overpriced! 11/30/2002

I was seated promptly and my servers were amazing, making dead-on recommendations. I do think that $13 for a salad and $11 for soup is outragous. more
