Reading through these reviews reminded me that TOTH is the place CHers love to hate. They all seem to think it's unimaginative to go there, but I must say, it's a great place to t...

Chapel Hill Experience 5/29/2003

I was surprised when I bumped into this review page and saw some unflattering remarks. My wife and I go to Top of the Hill about once a month and never fail to have a great time. The food is excellent, the menu varied, the service is friendly, and the ambience is superb. They have an outdoor deck, they take reservations, the bartenders remember you. All in all it is a great Chapel Hill experience and the place we take all of our guests. Pros: Outdoor dining, Value Menu, Beer Cons: no parking lot more

J CREW CATALOG COME TO LIFE 12/24/2002

IF YOU'VE EVER WANTED TO FEEL LIKE YOU'RE IN A J.CREW CATALOG, AND WANTED TO SIP OVERPRICED DRINKS WITH BLAND FOOD AND LOUSY SERVICE, THIS IS THE PLACE FOR YOU. THE TERRACE IS NICE...WHEN IT'S WARM OUT. MOSTLY YUPPIE PROFFESSIONAL TYPES IN THEIR EARLY THIRTIES AND GRAD STUDENTS TRYING TO BE LIKE THEM. VERY STUFFY AND UPTIGHT. ANY OF THE PLACES ACROSS THE STREET WILL GIVE YOU A BETTER TIME FOR YOU'RE MONEY, AND THE CROWD IS USUALLY YOUNGER. Pros: NICE ATMOSPHERE, INHOUSE BREWERY, NICE BALCONY VIEW Cons: UBER-YUPPIE, EXPENSIVE, NO MUSIC more

Surprised and Satisfied! 10/30/2002

Recommended to us by a friend. When entering we expected a less than satisfying dining experience. We were completely surprised by the excellent pasta dishes, the supreme service, and the atmosphere. This restaurant will be remembered as one of our all time favorites, and we will visit it every chance we get. Pros: service, food more

I'm a man of constant sorrow 10/30/2002

No shirt..no shoes..no cleavage??.. no service! I've been to Top of the Hill several times, but only once for a meal. This is really a review of a bar. The location is great. There is no better view of Chapel Hill. It has all the makings of a great place to go. I've unfortunately learned one important lesson in my visits there. A MAN HAS NO CHANCE OF GETTING A DRINK AT THIS BAR! I've stood at the bar waiting for twenty minutes on more than one occasion. Granted, I'm not 6'5, but I'm taller than most of the lovely ladies I see returning time and time again to the bar to get cocktails for their boyfriends. I'll continue to visit Top of teh Hill. Where else can I go where I'm gauranteed that a girl has to buy ME a drink. Pros: Location, Location, Location Cons: slow service more

To little for too much 10/3/2002

Expensive and you dot get much for it... there beer aint special... and the 45+ minute wait to get in on a weekend to spend money on overpriced food and service aint worth it more

fab chocolate chip martini, awful scene 8/30/2002

Get buzzed on a few martinis and expect to be entertained by drunk basketball players (UNC and Duke) hitting on wasted sorority girls. But watch out for the swinging Louis Vuitton pochettes and the knock-off Kate Spades, lest you lose any of the concoction that makes this place worth the haul up three floors. And don't worry that the girls look uncomfortably snug in their XOXO outfits. These girls intentionally buy clothes that are two sizes too small. Sober, it's like mixer-hell; drunk, it's like a John Water's comedy. more

Love the patio from heaven. 6/11/2002

I like going here because the patio is so cool. I just graduated and I will definitely miss it. The food is expensive but the beer is good. Great place to meet friends and hang out! more

thristy folks only 5/21/2002

This place has great beer and it fun to hang with at with you friends. Just don't go here if you are hungry. more

Go for the beer & the view! 5/21/2002

Top of the Hill is a great place to have a beer and sit on the rooftop patio! The food is nothing to write home about, but certainly edible. more

Blondes 5/21/2002

True, this place is a frequent fraternity stop, but the food is good, bartenders are fast considering the crowd, and if you're a b-ball fan you might end up in conversation with a player or two. You're not going to find too many place along Franklin St. that don't have a young crowd. If you're looking for a place with a buzz, blonde haired beauties and tasty blonde ale, this is it. Pros: pretty people, home brewed beer, Tarheel faithful Cons: crowded, a bit pricey more
