Being the man of the house, I try to be the decision maker on many things. However from time to time, I get usurped by my significant other and this is the instance where she actually got her way. Back over a month ago, we decided to move out of our apartment and she initially told me I was in charge with picking a moving company. Being the type of guy who makes many decisions on legitimate reviews, I wanted to go with a ""well known"" and reputable company, so I selected ""On the Move"", a company that has won several local newspaper awards for great service.
When I told her of my decision and the rates, she immediately argued with me that the price was too high. She wanted to spend less than the $99 an hour rate ""On the Move"" was charging. I told her that it wasn't going to happen but she said she would take care of it. So I put it in her hands.
A few days later, she came back with a link to a website for ""Top Ranked Movers"". She said she spoke to the owner named Will and came back with a flat rate of $80 an hour for 2 guys & a 24' truck. There were no gas fees or anything of that sort and the rate was charged by the minute.
Skeptical, I did some research online and actually found that they had two websites (both with the same information) as well as a TON of fluff reviews (especially on Citysearch and Google Maps). The reason I think it's fluff is because the majority of the reviewers all gave this company 5 stars AND only had 1 review per user. From past experience, if a user only has 1 review in their history, you can almost guarantee it is a fake account. Despite my research, my fiance stood firm with her decision and I told be there on moving day.
So the day arrived and 2 youthful males arrived in their large truck, on time. I'm was immediately glad that they were ""younger"" guys because the last moving company I used were actually older gentlemen and they could barely keep up. I actually had to be the ""3rd"" guy at that time because they were running extremely slow. This time around, the experience was much more positive.
During the loading, they only took 1 break (roughly 10 minutes) and I didn't have to lay a finger on any of my stuff. They loaded all my items very carefully and actually showed me of any damage my furniture had BEFORE picking it up. This is one aspect I really liked because they are just watching their backs to make sure they weren't the ones messing things up.
Upon arrival to the new home, they started unloading. They laid down furniture pads all around the house to make sure they didn't make any mess on the floors. I appreciated this. Unfortunately during the unload, some severe thunderstorms passed through Nashville and they actually had to stop. They told me they stopped the clock, but stupid me didn't keep track. On top of that, they took another break (for lunch) for another 20 minutes or so.
In the end, they charged me $460 for my move of 5.5 hours (they deducted 30 minutes for breaks). However now that I think about it, 5.5 hours at the rate of $80 per hour should have been $440. In addition, I know for a fact that they took longer breaks/stoppage of 30 minutes, but I didn't really care. I think that was a steal considering other movers charged you $99 an hour plus travel/gas rates. Had I used someone else, it would have been at least $600+.
All in all, I would recommend Top Ranked Movers to anyone in Nashville. I wish they didn't fluff their reviews online, because it makes you look like an extremely shady business but I can vouch that their rates are fair and they did a really good job moving. If I had advice to anyone, document their time spent moving. Oh and if you think my reviews are fake, check my history. I have a couple under my belt.
