Best

Best local doughnut shop in Washington. Always fresh tasting. I wish I could still find their donuts in my local Starbucks though!

Worst

Top Pot serves up a darned decent donut, certainly much better than the Krispy Krap that everyone is completely obsessed with, but these are not the best donuts ever. The cruelle...

Heavenly sinful! 2/11/2007

Before you even enter the store you can smell how good these donuts are going to taste. And then you walk in and see the case full of donuts ALMOST too pretty to eat! And guess what? They taste as good as they smell and taste. A big box of Top Pot Donuts are a great treat to bring into the office. more

Top Pot Doughnuts: the Doughnut Womb 5/5/2006

If there was some way to convert their used vegetable oil into biodiesel, I would bet that the owners never need to buy gas! Them make A LOT of doughnuts, and some people come just to buy boxes of them. But their coffee is pretty decent too, and with two walls of books -- for atmosphere -- they attract a fair amount of people who avail themselves of their free wireless interent, or just come to study or read. It's not a boisterous, noisy place, but sometimes for reasons unapparent to me, the place will be filled with lonely looking men, and no women -- I don't know why! Still, it's a good place to meet people who like to have good conversations. more

Best donuts anywhere 9/15/2005

Hands down the best donuts anywhere. I am partial to their old fashioned donuts, but they are all excellent. I find their coffee to leave a lot to be desired. The drip is watery and the espresso drinks are average. Maybe they are just not powerful enough to cut through the grease. more

Better than most, but pretty greasy 9/15/2005

I guess I come from the Great White North, in that I grew up on Tim Horton doughnuts. Top Pot definitely provides a substantial product, but I've been dissappointed with the amount of grease when I bite into them. Don't get me wrong, they're quite tasty but I wouldn't go eating more than one per sitting. It still seems difficult to get a really good doughnut without driving across the border! more

Best Old-Fashioned donut in town! 9/8/2005

This is the original, Capitol Hill Top Pot - hidden in a residential neighborhood - difficult parking and all. The place has a wonderful ambiance with stacks of books and wood panels and all. Plus the old-fashioned donut is worth the fat and carbs! Coffee is good too. Only thing: service is a wee bit chilly unless you are a very handsome construction worker, in which case the pierced gal behind the counter will be very nice! more

The Original 8/16/2005

Capitol Hill's hidden gem. Summit Ave's decadent little secret. The arch-nemesis to your pancreas. To boot, one of the pioneers for the wireless coffee shop scene. This coffee shop, open only since early 2002, single handedly evoked a resurgence of fanaticism in the cake-style donut in Seattle. Krispy-Kreme who? These little delights are insanely addictive. Seriously. Just one bite, and you'll soon be stealing Mom's toaster for your next dozen. You have been warned. more

Perfect Doughnut and Coffee combo 5/5/2005

Tucked into the nice Capitol Hill neighborhood, Top Pot Doughnuts provides a perfect, relaxing atmosphere. There is always some good music playing but not so loud that it becomes uncomfotable to talk to people. Plus, when the weather is nice you can sit outside. The best part, well the doughnuts and coffee. These are good doughnuts too. Not the marshmellow fluff you find at Krispy Kreme. Maple Old-Fashioned, Choclate Bar, Feather Boa, Bavarian Creme, and more. Add a nice cup of coffee and the scene is set. For those looking to do some work free Wi-Fi access is available. more

if you're going to eat a doughnut... 7/12/2004

Nothing beats a Top Pot doughnut - even if you aren't a doughnut fan. The presentation is fantastic, and the taste is even better - none of that Krispy Creme fluffiness - Top Pot doughnuts are substantial without being too heavy, and the different varieties could keep a doughnut lover happy for weeks. My personal favorite is called the chocolate sandbox (I think) - chocolate cake doughnut with cinammon sugar on top. Yum. I don't go often, but when I do I'm glad I did - if you can't resist, you'll be fat but happy... more
