I have been to a few places in Syracuse but hadn't found a hair dresser that suited my style. I googled to find a hair dresser in the area and found that Tony was highly recommended. I gave him a try. I am so glad I did. It has been about a month since my haircut and I am convinced that it is the best cut I have ever had. I hardly gave him any direction (cut a bob) and he did a fantastic job! I love my hair and get compliments from people at work -- even those I barely know. You will not regret going to Tony! I have always been very loyal to my hair stylists. I am 32 years old and have only had 3 people cut/style my hair. Even when they would do a poor job I would stay with them. Crazy I know!! A couple of years ago I went to have my hair highlighted (something I'd been doing for a while) and my hair was fried. I don't know what went wrong. But I looked like a color chart for blonde shades. I was completely devastated and embarrassed. Thank gosh one of my friends new Tony. I called and explained my problem and Tony gave me an immediate appointment. When he saw me, he gasped and asked what I was attempting to go for. I told him that I had wanted basic blonde highlights. He explained to me that my hair had been extremely damaged and that it would take a while to get it healthy again. But in the mean time he would fix the color. It took us a few sessions and a mixture of colors for my hair to go from 6 shades of blonde/white to the golden color it is now. Tony is the most amazing person to ever touch hair. I will never go anywhere else. Not only does my hair and color always look amazing, I also get fantastic conversation. I see Tony every 4 months and he remembers my daughters name and what we talked about the previous time. He is very personal and makes you feel welcome. As for the other negative comments, you must have been in a different salon or else you are truly a vain person. There are 2 barbers that share a space with Tony and they are the kindest men and very funny. Tony is the only hair stylist so you don't feel cramped at all. As for the decor... are you looking for a great hair stylist or an attractive room? I wouldn't care if Tony did hair out of his garage, I 'd still go to him. Pros: works around your schedule more

The first thing I said when I sat down in Tony's chair was, ""By the way, I'm a little nervous."" He sat and talked with me for a good 10 minutes and boosted my confidence and calmed my nerves with a detailed plan of what he thought would be most flattering. I brought in 3 pictures but also asked him what his opinion was and the end product was essentially the perfect cut for my facial structure and personality. The whole time we talked and laughed and gossiped and learned things about each other. It was like I was talking to a dear friend who I've known for years and years. When I walked down the stairs and out of the salon some guy looked me up and down and whispered ""hey"" under his breath which is odd for Syracuse and I'm pretty sure it was because my new haircut made me feel so beautiful and I was probably smiling like a bafoon. I would recommend Tony Christopher Hair Design to anybody who is looking for a special, reliable place to go to for long-term service. I don't think I will ever go anywhere else, now! Tony has cut my hair twice and both times not only did I receive excellent service and advise, but outside of the salon, I was showered with compliments. I was happy to give Ton'ys name and the address of his salon. He is an artist who takes all aspects of an individual's 'composition', so to speak, into account when he styles their hair. Skin tone, face shape, eyes, and personality all play a role. He was very accommodating and listened to what I requested very carefully. He gave me well thought out suggestions, but was completely open to the most important aspect of my cut; what I truly wanted and felt comfortable with. I have had nothing but good experience with Tony and I would highly recommend him to people who are creative, maybe a little daring, and want a hair cut that is designed specifically for them. I stumbled upon Tony's salon by accident and it was the best accident I have ever had. I have had my hair cut and colored by Tony 4 times now and everytime I come out happier then the time before. He even took the time to have a 30 minute meeting with me when I thought I wanted to become a brunette! We decided on a beautiful shade of red, which because of his expertise and skill turned out better then I could have imagined. Tony always listens to what I want to do and then gives me an honest opinion as to if it will work with my hair or not, and if it won't he always has a plethora of suggestions that would work. The barber's that work there as well are also a great audience to test out your new look and have some pretty great stories too! Everytime I go to Tony's I always come out looking and feeling better then I did when I went in which I think is the most important thing to consider when choosing a salon. Like the reviewer below (who I tried to ignore, feeling like she was in the minority of a sea of great reviews), I'm new to the Syracuse area and was hoping this was the salon. Not. I'm willing to pay anything for a good haircut - I don't skimp there - so the rock-bottom price was nice, but not the main reason to go. The ""salon"", if you can call it that (yes, it is a barber shop, complete with faded linoleum floors and an old guy giving a buzz cut to a Marine in the next chair) is generic - at best. But the haircut was what was truly uninspired - I got the standard-issue B&B, as we called them in NYC (bangs and bob), after I painstakingly explained that I wanted a layered, shag-type look. Even 4 pictures that I'd brought along didn't make the explanation any more heard. Could have got this ""style"" at a Supercuts. I was walking down Marshall Street one day and saw Tony Christopher's sign. I decided to make an appointment because I felt so depressed with the person who was cutting my hair; it never looked right. I realized immediately that Tony knew excellent techniques for cutting hair and that he really is an artist. For the first time in my life, people--even strangers--are coming up to me and telling me that they love my hair cut and want to know who is cutting it. For years I searched for a hair stylist who wasn't scissor happy and then, I finally found Tony. He has made me feel like I'm beautiful. He is honest, funny, and most importantly, a skilled hair specialist who knows the unique features of my wild and unruly, wavy mop. Tony takes the time to style, explain and share hair care tips. The salon is cozy and comfortable and Tony makes me feel like I'm a guest in his home. He caters to me and knows how to make me look beautiful. He tells amazingly funny stories and best of all he has a heart of gold. If you want more than just a haircut, Tony's the guy for you. I won't ever go to another hair stylist as long as he's around. Went here for the first time for a cut by Tony, after reading all of the glowing reviews here. Not that impressed, overall. Tony essentially works out of a barber shop, with absolutely no ambience whatsoever. That could be overlooked if he was indeed the master he is portrayed to be based on reviews here. I didn't see it. After a very short ""consultation"" he did one of the worst things a stylist can do - just give a very basic, generic cut that showed he didn't really listen at all. Yes, this is a very cheap place for downtown Syracuse (he's right by SU), but the atmosphere and cut basically showed he could be cutting anywhere. If you walk half a block down the street from Tony Christophers Salon and compare prices, they are double. Couldn't tell you why, but I'm Tony's customer for life. I was lucky enough to have Tony cut and highlight my hair for 2 years. I have since moved away and am desperately trying to find an adequate replacement, but frankly there isn't any. Tony listens to what you want, and gives you just that. You looking good is the best advertisement he can have, so there's no way he'd let you be unsatisfied. i was a long time customer of hair collections and when they closed and left the area I needed to find a new salon and co worker told me about tony it was upstairs but what a nice salon and i got a great cut he has been there for over 27 years. i didnt know the salon was there. but i got one of the best cuts there. i highly recomend him. also he has training from different hair schools.
