Best

I started going to this restaurant last December and have since made this a place to visit four to five times a month. I have never been to a restaurant with such a diverse menu ...

Worst

The nice thing is....no reservations, walk into any LA BIstro. MINIBAR, CLOSED, SAVANNAH-BURBANK CLOSED...WHO'S NEXT? Dropping LIke Flies...last year we lost VInyard Terrace....th...

Not SURPRISED its closed 9/1/2008

It really does not surprise me TommyRays is closed down. I actually told a friend once, at my last visit ""I dont give this place much longer"". Always running out of food items such as buns for sandwiches, eggs for the breakfast items. I Just liked being outdoors and being able to enjoy the Patio. They did have excellent customer service. Its a real shame this place had real potential. more

ANOTHER ONE DOWN - CLOSED, 8/18/2008

The nice thing is....no reservations, walk into any LA BIstro. MINIBAR, CLOSED, SAVANNAH-BURBANK CLOSED...WHO'S NEXT? Dropping LIke Flies...last year we lost VInyard Terrace....the only common theme was the Wine girl (except Savvannah) more

Restaurant closed 7/29/2008

This restaurant is closed. I've been three times at dinner hour in the last two weeks, and the place was closed up tight as a drum, chairs upside down on tables. Don't bother going, it's out of business. Pros: It was a nice place, but now closed. more

Great Brunch, outdoor seating 3/27/2008

Finally, a great outdoor restaurant in Studio City! Tommy Rays is a much needed restaurant in this part of the Valley. Their Sunday brunch is great, kid friendly. more

A great time, everytime! 2/7/2008

I started going to this restaurant last December and have since made this a place to visit four to five times a month. I have never been to a restaurant with such a diverse menu and staff. My food is always consistently fantastic and I am always greeted with a smile. Tommy Rays bills itself as a friendly neighborhood restaurant and that's exactly what it is! If warmth, great service, and fabulous food aren't what you're looking for in a restaurant, Tommy Ray's probably isn't the place fo you. more

Great people, Great patio, Good prices! 2/7/2008

I love going to this place I've been there many times for brunch on Sundays and I always find the people here nice and the food good. I think the Lemon Ricotta Hotcakes are the best thing on the menu but I also like the steak and eggs too. Other local places don't really go out of their way for you the way Tommy Rays does every time I'm there the manager stops by the table and remembers me. I do really like their patio and I think the fire table is really neat. I think the next time I have a party I'm going to have it there, I think it seats like ten people. I think there are lots of restaurants that are too expensive for what they serve but this place is priced pretty fair. I wouldn't hesitate to tell my friends about it. more

Don't waste your time. I tried, tried again, and again, to no avail. Just aweful. 12/21/2007

I've been to this restaurant three times because I simply couldn't believe it could be this bad over and over again. This is not an angry review - I really wish it were better, because there's not much cool evening outdoor dining in studio city. It could be great, but it's not. Food is unbelievably salty ( and I mean SALTY), yet bland...? Perhaps the idea is to dry you out with the salt so you'll drink more and not notice the sad shape the food's in, or the small portions. My friend had a basic pasta that I could have made MUCH better myself, and I can't cook. They actually managed to burn the chicken in it. Wow. Service is hot/cold and the wait staff have absolutely no idea what they're serving, and forget looking for a wine recommendation, unless the musings of an 18 year old actress works for you. This is a classic example of a restaurant that's just begging to be taken over by someone who knows what they're doing, and it then becoming a raging success, much to the consternation of the previous management. I'll pass on by next time. Pros: Still can't think of one. OK - it has outside dining... Cons: Food, Service, Flavor, just skip it completely. more

Nice, upscale, kid-friendly neighborhood joint 10/7/2007

Been here a few times. I found it to have nice, friendly service. Servings are sometimes small, but other dishes are very generous. Good California food overall (Shrimp, steak, lamb chops, crab cakes) with some lighter fare and a real kids menu. The have music outside on the patio sometimes. Families and neighborhood people seem to be the customers. If you're looking for a pleasant, upscale, kid-friendly neighborhood joint -- this is is. Pros: Nice room. Outside dining on a pretty patio. Cons: some small portions more

cute, nice little place 3/7/2007

If you're expecting 4 star treatment - don't go here. But if you are a normal person who wants a nice meal in nice surroundings, then this is the place. Nice people, good service, decent food. The ""rolls"" (slices of untoasted sourdough) aren't that great. But the food was nice - we ordered beet salad and skirt steak. The salad had no dressing but there was vinegar on the table - so it was good enough. The wine - house zinfandel - wasn't bad and the steaks were just right. Prices are decent and the patio is nice. Not crowded at all...nice and quiet. Pros: nice surroundings, outdoor patio Cons: nothing really more

Unbelievably Bad 2/15/2007

Took my girlfriend here on Valentine's Day and it was by FAR the worst place we have ever eaten in LA. Let me describe our horrid experience with this ""restaurant."" We were seated and told that they were out of menus!?? WHAT??? We had to wait 15 minutes to look at a menu. Service was incredibly slow on ever level, except for the bus boy type that brings their cold, bland rolls and water. I am glad I filled up on bread because the portions here are TINY. Appetizers: oysters with caviar was pretty good. Duck/potato salad was horrible. 14 dollars for about ten tiny pieces of food. But it's not the type of place where the food is good enough to excuse small portions. it just doesn't ""work."" The scampi angle hair was the worst, most bland thing I have ever eaten. Tasted like wet homemade spaghetti. When the bill for two was over 100 dollars with tip I was actually angry that I had to give these people money. I would have preferred Denny's (I'm dead serious) The only sort-of plus is that the outdoor patio is pretty cool. Ridiculously slow service, bad portions, bland, low quality food. (most of it was cold too) The place wasn't even crowded but every one seemed to be confused as to what was going on. It's a shame because the location and decor is cool...someone needs to get that place shaped up. I'll never go back. Cons: slow service, small portions, low quality, bland dishes, everything more

Service is bad - food pretty good 1/20/2007

I too wanted this place to be awesome. We went for lunch on a saturday. It seemed like they only had one poor waiter. When the host seated us, it took too long for someone to come. Perhaps, he should have asked us if we wanted drinks since he had to know the wait staff was short. No one offered us water. The waiter did take our order, but it took forever for the food to come out, and my breakfast was luke warm, probably sitting there waiting for my husband's burger. I had to get my own katsup from another table. I will try it one more time to see if they work the kinks out, otherwise, forget it. I'll go to the Good Earth instead... Pros: Menu options Cons: Service more

A swing and a miss 12/11/2006

Ok, so I really wanted this restaurant to be good. I was excited about a new place in Studio City, and it looked really nice from the outside. The hostess was georgeous, and greeted us very warmly. The waitress was equally pretty. But then we ordered... Pros: Pretty setting, pretty staff Cons: Just awful food, and clunky service more
