Pumpkiinfest was awesome! 10/12/2011

I went to the Tommy Doyle's First Annual Pumpkinfest last week, and it was the perfect way to kick off the fall! There were a handful of pumpkin flavored craft beers to taste throughout the night, but the Cape Ann Stout tapped directly out of a carved pumpkin was by far the most festive, and delicious. On top of that, the menu of pumpkin ravioli, butternut squash ravioli, turkey, and pumpkin pie was outstanding and went perfectly with the chosen beers, My friends and I loved the event, and will absolutely go back again soon for the live music and wide selection of beers and drinks! more

Always a good time, surprisingly good food! 10/12/2011

I've been here a bunch of times over the years. Usually friendly staff, good beer selection, and really good comfort food. I love their Shepherd's Pie, and my wife goes with the Reuben Stuffed Chicken. The one in the Square has three floors, with live music and dancing on the top, a bar with booths on the middle floor, and a cocktail lounge downstairs with a good selection of craft beers. No one will ever fill the House of Blues shoes, but TD's does an admirable job trying. more

Terrible food, service, and atmosphere! 9/4/2011

A TERRIBLE experience. I went with my girlfriend on a Saturday around 2 Oclock for brunch. The hostess asked if we were there for brunch, and we said yes, and then she said go ahead and sit anywhere, so we did. The place was completely dead, only 2 other people in the whole room, and yet after waiting over 5 minutes we finally got our menus, and then the server disappeared for 10 minutes to get our coffee and water and we realized we only had lunch menus. We asked when she finally came back about brunch and she told us we weren't serving it anymore! This was even after calling earlier to double check the brunch times! We had a 'buywithme' coupon good for 30$ toward brunch so we asked if we could just use it for lunch since they lied and mislead us already to get us in there. They would not let us. We should have left on the spot, but we decided to try a couple small things since we were there. We tried the Celtic nachos and a bowl of chili. After waiting about 30 minutes in a dead restaurant for this crap they called food to come out, it was luke warm at best. The nachos were a greasy and salt pile; ie: bag of lays potato chips, package of shredded cheese thrown on a baking platter with maybe 5 little slivers of jalapeno. The chili might have been ok if it was hot. Finally, when we were ready to pay we waited over 10 minutes for our server to come by to ask for the bill, after we got the bill we had to wait another 5-10 minutes for her to come back to pick it up with our card (this is all in a completely dead restaurant, and we even waved her down across the room at one point because it had been so long, and I guess she ignored us.) I will never be going back to this place again. The atmosphere is dirty and dark as well, hardly inviting in anyway. Luckily the one good thing that came out of our trip there was that The Red House right next door had .50cent oytsers that afternoon so we salvaged the day with awesome drinks there and a bunch of oysters and delicious app's. more

Love this place! 4/28/2009

No matter what night I go to Tommy Doyle's I have a blast! The staff is great, the drinks are perfect, and the crowd is a nice mix of people. Pros: Great atmosphere! more

Fun parties! 4/8/2009

""I've been here a few times, often for private parties hosted by friends, and have always had a great time. The upstairs room with dancefloor and bar is great, and the food is good too. I definitely would recommend TD's. I also hear they have an awesome Sunday brunch too that I really want to check out..."" Pros: upstairs room--great dancefloor and bar more

great place for private events or random fun night 4/8/2009

I had my birthday party here in the fall, and it was easily one of the most fun nights I've had in Boston. I had originally planned on having my party elsewhere, but every other bar in the square was not accommodating for some reason. The manager at TD's was great though--they definitely have experience hosting private parties, and basically took care of everything for me. It was exactly what I wanted, and required no work on my part. All of my friends had a great time too--I guess everyone likes an open bar. But really, many people since have told me what a great time they had, and a few of my friends have had their party their since, and felt likewise. Tommy's is also a great place to just go on thursday for a few drinks with friends. there is usually a good amount of people, and it's casual. definitely my favorite spot in the square. Pros: reasonable prices, good crowd more

Harvard Square find 1/14/2008

I found this place by accident and have been coming back for 2 years...Harvard prepsters and town regulars mix surprisingly well in this cozy bar with old Boston knick-knacks that makes it feel like your grandmother's attic...surprisingly diverse (and good!) menu for a bar...get there early before the crowd takes over for the popular Fri and Sat night dance parties. Pros: great crowd, cozy irish pub feel Cons: hard to get a drink if you get there too late more

Great spot in Harvard Square 1/14/2008

Great spot for a night out or for just chilling with friends...always a fun crowd, good music, great atmosphere. The staff is really welcoming and helpful. I don't make it all the way to the square every weekend, but when I do, my friends and I always end up at TDs. Pros: HBS Rugby Cons: HBS Rugby more

Great night out! 1/14/2008

Fun crowd, live bands, trivia. The staff is very attentive. TD's is great after work or for a night out! I would go back any night of the week! more

Great Service, Good Times 1/14/2008

Tommy Doyle's is the best place to meet new people and socialize in Cambridge. The atmosphere is lively and the bartenders deliver excellent service. Pros: Singles Scene more

favorite bar in the square 1/14/2008

I've been going to Tommy D's for almost two years now and its one of my favorite bars in the Square. Dress up or dress down, you can always feel at home there. I love that there is something at TD's for whatever mood I'm in--I can go when I want to dance and drink and go to the top floor, or if I want a beer and some apps and good conversation with friends, there's space on the main floor or the basement lounge where i can actually hear the people at the table I'm at. The bartenders on the top floor get special props for creative mixing (I never know what I want, and they will always make something special) and always being friendly, especially when the bar is a few people deep. I celebrated my birthday here as well and with great space and good prices, it was the best place to bring a large group of friends. There are lots of great bars in the Square but Tommy Doyle's is the best of all worlds, balancing club and pub, food and drink, and being a place meeting new people or banking on running into tons of friends. If I don't want to dress up and behave myself at Grafton, but want to avoid the skeeziness of the Kong 2nd floor (which lets be honest, has its moments of fun), TD's is the place for good company and fun on all ends of the dance-to-don't dance/lets get wasted-to-glass of wine/pre-game the night-to-spend all night spectrums. Love TD's. Pros: great staff, great venue, great company Cons: top floor can overcrowd leading to a line filling up the main floor more

The place where everyone knows your name 1/10/2008

I started going to TDs when I was in college and have been a regular ever since. The staff is friendly and accomodating, the upstairs always makes for awesome dance-parties, and the food tastes great and never takes long to order/prepare (The Gringo Chicken sandwich is my FAVORITE!). My boyfriend's rugby team holds a number of events in the basement/lounge and the management helped me organize a year-end party for me and my colleagues. Whether I'm in the mood for a crazy late-night or an afternoon of posting up at a table and drinking and watching a game or a few drinks out with the girls, TDs is my go-to. This may sound fake or contrived, but really and truly I love this place and could go on. Pros: Fun atmosphere, good DJ, awesome pub food Cons: Parking in the square more

Fun Spot, good food 9/19/2006

Very good addition to Harvard Square. Staff is friendly, place looks great. I've been to every bar and restaurant in harvard square, this is by far the funnest! I went in last weekend, and there was a line to get in. The doorman remembered my face, and let me dodge the line. Thats the loyalty I appreciate. My only advice get there early they have a cover starting at like 9- 9:30, and the lines come soon after. Usually a cover band followed by a dj on the weekends, and I think they just started serving food until closing! Pros: live music, big screen, dj dancing Cons: lines to get in on weekends, no parking, drunk students more

Tommy Doyles 7/23/2006

As a lifelong Cambridge resident I was pleasantly surprised after my first trip to Tommy Doyles. Interestingly enough the only reason I tried it out was because of a flyer I was given by a young lady outside the T. I hadn't made it to that side of the Square in a while, and figured to try out the place that took over the ""House of Blues"" I went in and ordered a Guinness and the bartender literally talked me out of the Guinness and instead recommended a Murphys Stout, offering to buy it if I didn't like it! Long story short it was a great pour, and I stayed for the remainder of the sox game over a fantastic Fish and Chips. With three bars and a great menu, this place is now on my list. You'll be seeing a lot more of me! Pros: food, beer, beautiful women Cons: parking, wobbly tables, a little too loud upstairs more

Price of Lobster! Wow 7/14/2006

Our group of six was coaxed into Tommy Doyles in Harvard square by a lovely girl on the steps. We were actually looking for some where with outside seating, but were shocked by the prices of some of the establishments in Harvard square. We were escorted to the top floor and sat in one of the huge booths next to the stage. Our waitress was fantastic and suggested the lobster special @ $14.99?? We'd just paid $30+ in the cape last weekend for the same size lobster. I decided to go up a scale and get the stuffed lobster. It was nothing short of delicious, our whole party was taken a back by the quality and presentation of not alone the food but the whole establishment. we have never been really attracted to Irish Bars or restaurants due to their no so stellar reputation with regard to food. But oh how are opinions have changed. We will be back.We are converted! Thanks! Pros: Lobster @ $14.99 Cons: parking more

you have got to be kidding 7/13/2006

horrible poor excuse for an irish pub. i went there today and all i saw was some angry bartender and manager talking trash about the local restaurants in the square. i would have enjoyed myself if they had not been a bunch of haters! nest time get me my guinness and just smile. please. Pros: leaving Cons: never going again more
