Wow what an amazing experience, my hair has never looked this awesome! I highly suggest Tillman's. Their prices are great! I will keep going back there. I have been going to the same salon for years then I moved to columbia. Im so happy I found them. They are an aveda salon so they focus on a relaxing experience and it was! I just recently moved back to columbia, and had been going to the same stylist for many years. As anyone would be, I was extremely nervous about trying a new place and a new stylist. I love Aveda so naturally I tried Tillman Salon. I was booked with Mark who immediately made me feel comfortable once meeting him. He was very thorough in the consultation and did an amazing job on my cut and highlights! But what was even better was how affordable he was. My misconception was I thought Tillman's pricing was through the roof! Great cut, highlights, and style for under $100! I will definitely be back more

I agree with the other reviews: the place is professional and you get a decent cut and coloring, but charging a (undisclosed until after my service) consultation fee of $20 something dollars for basically my telling my stylist what i wanted is/was kind of ridiculous. My haircut/color wasn't bad but wasn't anything out of the ordinary, especially for the too-high price. I've since found another Aveda salon on Sunset Blvd., Huei Aveda- and feel that it's a better deal for my money. From work I don't have to drive as far and it doesn't charge a consultation fee--which, for $20 I'd save and get a set of shampoo and conditioner. more

I have been going to Tillman Salon since 1998 and can't go anywhere else. Even when I have moved away from Columbia I still go back to see ""Till"". Their color/highlights are natural and not over-processed looking. The haircuts I get always receive lots of compliments and are ahead of current trends. I can let my designer determine how I look best and style accordingly. Sure it is more expensive but it is really worth it. You are in a great environment that is exceptionally clean and relaxing. The staff is very professional and friendly. Love this place and highly recommend! Pros: Skilled stylists, sophisticated space, great service Cons: Expensive but worth it! more

I made an appointment with Tillman salon because I'm totally into Aveda. I used to get my hair done by another stylist at another salon. I moved away only to realize I'm not able to find a better stylist. My old hairstylist was nowhere to be found. So, I basically settled for Tillman salon. First of all, the prices are outrageous. I don't mind paying good money for my hair, which I do frequently, but paying $250 for a touch up straightening and cut was unreal!! Not to mention the $20 consultation fee which was not applied to my other service. Wasted almost $300 and two days for an average hair trim...and I didn't book with a student or apprentice. I booked with the 'master' himself so my hair should of been on point. Don't get me wrong, he was totally nice and professional, but it's Columbia, SC...not NYC. I wished to God I could find my previous hair stylist...Matt Johnson. He used to work at Cline's in the Vista. I have not returned to Cline's after I found out he didn't work there anymore. Matt Johnson was AWESOME. Anybody know where he is?? Pros: Bright facility, friendly staff Cons: Way too expensive for the services rendered. more

I went to Till for color after meeting several people who looked fabulous and revealed their secret: hair color by Till. I love the salon and the staff is great. Although it isn't necessary for a good cut, I really look forward to the short massage I get every time I go there. So relaxing! I also really like the cucumber water and tea they serve - yum! OK, that headline is unfair. It's not the worst haircut I've ever had. That would still be the time my then 4-year-old cut my hair (I was 6). But this is the worst hair cut I've paid for.\r \r I don't know how I could have been any more explicit: ""I want it short."" She would cut and then ask me if it looked OK. ""No, I would like it short, please."" Three times we would go through this. Finally, I gave up. When I paid at the front desk I looked in the mirror and and the receptionist asked if I liked my cut. ""I'll get used to it,"" was my reply. That's not exactly a ringing endorsement. \r \r And for the privilege of getting a haircut I hate, I got to pay an exorbitant price too! The price suggests more upscale treatment, but the actual experience was rather average. Some friends and I were preparing for an event and decided to go to this establishment. We weren't disappointed, but we were not overly impressed either. Pros: staff was friendly Cons: extra attention to detail and special touches are needed to justify the pricing more

I recently moved to Columbia from Dallas and was nervous about finding a new hair salon. I went to an Aveda salon in Dallas that I loved so I figured I couldn't go wrong with that...but that wasn't the case. First, it was almost impossible to make an appointment. Every time I called I got an answering machine and when I finally left a message no one called me back. I should have seen this as a sign. They charge $15 (I think) for a ""consultation"". I decided I would give it a try. When I went back to get my hair highlighted she barely remembered what we had talked about. \r \r In most upscale salons you are offered lemon water, coffee or even a glass of wine. Not here. Now, I could really care less if they offer me a drink, however, after being there for almost 4 hours I was quite parched. And considering the price they charged this should definitely be part of the service. The stylist was nice enough, but did what SHE thought was best for my hair. So, instead of making it look presentable it is now a ""Work in progress"" as my natural color grows out (hard to explain). It isn't like I was coloring my own hair before I came here - I was going to another Aveda salon! After getting the bill I was floored at the amount. They had told me the 100% foil would be $100 but I didn't expect the haircut to cost $75. Both of these are more than I paid in a much more sophisticated Dallas Salon. I am sorry to say the whole experience was quite disappointing. more
