Books, Booze, Food - The essentials. 3/6/2006

First, I was in love with Third Place Books because it provided a rustic nook to peacefully check out books and magazines. Then, I loved Third Place Books because a little thing called Honey Bear Bakery showed up. Now I could read a book and eat a grilled turkey sandwich with caramelized onions (hint - get this sammy!). Could a bookstore experience really get any better? Actually, yes. Now I love Third Place books because not only can I eat a frittata or a piece of carrot cake or a turkey sammy, drink coffee and peacefully read a book, but I can also DRINK BEER and peacefully read a book. The Pub at Third Place Books has now opened! It's a right pub, too. Dark, low ceiling, the smell of wood becuase of the authentic woodwork everywhere, and lots of NW brews on tap. Rustically framed by three large tree trunks, the Pub is tucked into the Southeast side of Third Place Books (on 65th). Pop by and settle in for a long afternoon of beers and books. It's almost heaven. more

ravenna books (new and used) and coffee shop 3/2/2006

i made an outing this morning to third place books in ravenna to sell a big box of books, browse a bit and get a mid-morning coffee and snack. it took nearly an hour to get a price on what they would pay for about 2/3 of the books i brought in and i thought the prices were a bit lower then what i have gotten elsewhere- max price seemed to be $2 even for beautiful hardback coffetable books. the star of the outing was the scone with the blob of raspberry jam in the middle- almost like a biscuit because it so melted in my mouth. all the baking and espresso-ing is from the Honey Bear bakery who runs the small cafe. nice cozy chairs by a fireplace, good window bar stools for musing over the weather, good coffee and nice service. some nights they have open mic music and a variety of performances like acoustic guitar. more

Bookstore, bakery, and soon-to-be pub 9/8/2005

Everything you want is at Third Place Books on the corner of 65th and 20th Ave. Spend the day perusing the books, or sit in the back at the Honey Bear Bakery and enjoy a latte and freshly made pumpkin pancakes while reading something off the shelves. The place is always full, with people meeting to chat, or do homework, or work on their laptops. That said, there is always room for more! They are currently working on putting a pub in the basement, which will be accessible via a separate door on 65th. The signs says "coming this summer" and I guess technically, they have until September 22 to meet that goal, right? :-) more

Great neighborhood bookstore 8/17/2005

Barnes and Nobles this is definitely NOT. I love this book store. It has the feel of a small town neighborly bookstore where size is not as important as a sheer appreciation for literature. They offer mainstream books as well as more independent and locale authors as well. Come here on a cold rainy Seattle afternoon and you'll never want to leave! more

Food for the Brain 8/16/2005

Third Place Books has two locations in Seattle, one in Ravenna and one in Lake Forest Park. Both locations offer all the ammenities of a good bookstore, including a good selection of both new and used books, along with a good cafe. You'll find almost any book you are looking for, and if they don't have it they will order it for you. Third Place has many different author events, so there is a good chance to meet some of the authors that you read regularly. The staff is very helpful, and knowledgeable, which makes any venture to Third Place worthwhile. more

Books and Snacks 7/30/2005

Third Place Ravenna is much smaller than its sister store in Lake Forest Park. The emphasis is more on used books here and it's not set up quite as well for browsing. There is a Honey Bear Bakery at the back of the store with very large tables so you can spread out. A small stage in this area often hosts musicions or poets. There is also a fireplace with couches to settle into for a good read. more
