Best

It's a great hotel but if any of you are looking to save some $$ then book it at referer.us/8/GoodHotelDeals They usually have some pretty good deals on there!

Worst

The rooms are very subpar, if you're in your early twenties and looking for a party hotel, this is it. If you're looking for the comforts of a nice hotel, this is definitely not ...

Rooftop bar = overrated 5/23/2011

Everyone talks about the rooftop bar at the Standard in DTLA. The service is great, but the atmosphere and the drinks are a solid 2.5 stars in my book. The steep parking rate isn't worth it to go spend a few hours at an overplayed downtown bar. *The wife is reading this over my shoulder and she wanted everyone to know that the ""lemondrop was really good"" more

Stunning View 4/29/2009

This place is a gem in LA. There are a lot of great bars to go to but none as lovely as this rooftop bar. It's great for a date or a night out with your gal pals. I went here with my bf a lot when we first start dating and just relaxed on the sofas and looked onto the buildings and into the starry night sky. The heat lamps keep you really warm too! I have also been several times with my posse. Last time we went we met this really great bartender. I think his name was Mike? Anyways, he served us Hello Kitty shots which was SO fun. First of all the the liqueur thats used in them is called Ty Ku and the bottle LIGHTS UP!! It's also mixed with vodka. Went down real easy. It made our night very entertaining lol. I always meet great people here. If I could, I'd come every weekend. Pros: GORGEOUS! Cons: Parking more

Love It 1/9/2009

I feel like I'm on vacation in the middle of the city. You can almost reach out and touch the buildings next to it. more

The food was as hot as the service!! 1/7/2009

Don?t let the hip vibe of this delicious little yellow restaurant fool you. The staff was very pleasant and helpful. There was not only light healthy fair for my better half , but there was also some really great meaty options for me sink my teeth into. We started our meal with this amped up version of a caprese salad. They don?t use the standard fresh mozzarella. Instead it is served with Italian burrata that our server explained is a combination of fresh mozzarella and cream. It lived up to the servers testimony. My partner ordered the beet salad and the crab cakes. Enjoying both. He did ask for a little more of the grapefruit sauce for the crab cakes. This was brought promptly. I chose the pork chop dinner also at the recommendation of our server. I can?t tell you what a breath of fresh air it is to have a server that knows their menu well and works to please their guests. The pork chop was amazing, tender and should have come with it?s own zip code. We were offered dessert, but went with two French pear martinis instead. This place really hits all the senses and does it very well, and without draining your wallet! We will be returning soon!!! Pros: cost Cons: I can't live here. more

great staff 12/18/2008

my experience with this place was great, i had great staff to help me out, if you go onto the roof you see the whole city and its just incredible. the rooms were great and getting checked in was easy. more

Great Roof-top View 12/2/2008

You cannot beat the view from the top floor, however your patience may be tested if you go on a weekend and do not get in before a line forms. Pros: Atmosphere, Decor Cons: Line on the Weekends more

The Standard 12/2/2008

One of my favorite spots in LA. I love the rooftop, especially at night because you're surrounded by all the skyscrapers. Just a beautiful sight to see! Plus, they always have events there, which are usually free! more

credit card fraud 11/29/2008

i just got my capital one bill. i have two illegal charges that were made there on my card number. my card was never lost or stolen. somebody got my number and manually put the number in to make charges at this place. i have never even been to california. figures californians. somebody on the payroll there was in on this illegal activity. more

Pretentious bouncers but very strong drinks 9/13/2008

i went on a Thursday night with a group of about 30 or so people and the overly pretentious bouncers wouldn't let us up to the rooftop bar. It was clear that the only people getting in were guys that came with a lot of girls or blondes with huge breasts. They claimed they were only admitting hotel guests but there was even a poor girl there that was staying at the hotel, celebrating her birthday and they wouldn't let her or her party in either. The lobby was really cool and ultra modern. The DJ was excellent and the drinks, though overpriced, were very strong and good. The bathrooms in the lobby were not clean at all and was very disappointing due to the assumed high reputation of the venue. All in all, I probably will not visit this place again. I just don't understand how bouncers are stupid enough to deny entry to 30 people who were all ready to spend large amounts of money on alcohol. Then the idiotic bouncers told everyone that as long as there was a 1:1 girl to guy ratio they could get in. Then they changed their minds and said there was 4:3 girl to guy ratio. We clearly had enough people. It became clear that they must not have liked our ""look"" or something because they did not let us in under any circumstances. We ended up leaving and didn't turn back. If you want to go to The Standard, I would suggest the one in Hollywood. No d-bag bouncers there. Pros: Strong drinks Cons: Bouncers without a clue, expensive drinks, dirty bathrooms more

My Saturday Night 9/1/2008

We arrive around 9 to beat the line and it paid off, we were a party of about 10 girls and 3 guys and they made sure we all were allowed in, the guys infront of us weren't due to capacity. The view is very nice, very nice lounges, decent girl to guy ratio. My only complaint was the Dance floor/DJ's choice of music all night and the volume of the music. But we have a good time regardless, it felt like a place you'd take a date for drinks but still a lot of single girls walking around. I'd give it a 8/10 and probably will visit again. more

Sunday nights 5/30/2008

The best thing about this place is the roof top view and pool. I've gone on Sunday nights when there is not a huge crowd. I've heard trying to get in on Friday and Saturday nights is near impossible. The drinks are on the $$$ side, but its a nice spot to take a date for after dinner drinks. (Sunday only). I hear you spot a lot of celebrities on Monday nights. I would suggest calling head, becuase sometimes they close the roof top bar for private parties, or hotel guest only. Pros: The view Cons: Getting in more

finally got to stay 5/12/2008

The rooftop bar is my favorite place to party in LA. I've been there quite a few times and I finally got to stay at the hotel last weekend. When I was on their website booking the room, I found the promo code ""summer"" for a free upgrade and got to stay in a really nice room for the weekend. more

Barber Shop in the Standard Hotel 1/26/2008

Worst experience ever. Avoid the grouchy young female stylist with tattoos everywhere at all cost. She became irritated with me when I explained to her what I wanted. It was as if I was bothering her for being there. I'm a student living in downtown and this place would have been very convenient for my haircuts. No way I'm stepping in there again. I feel this reflects poorly on the Standard Hotel as well and therefore I am writing this review under the hotel itself. more

The Downtown Standard is disgusting!!!! 9/24/2007

This hotel is beyond disgusting! I stayed here for business and it seems that the hotel only cares about the club-goers. The customer Service was horrible, the valet guys were very unprofessional and wouldn't let us park in the lot and we were hotel guests! The parking attendant told us the lot was full and would not let us pass, we told him we were staying at the hotel and he said ""sorry, it's full"" we turned around and headed out and a group of people in car who were going to the club on the roof were let in to park. We went back and said we saw you let the people in so then he let us go. There was a ton of parking in the structure and someone told us they do that because the club people are going in and out and it's a way for them to make more money. They were very rude and did not care that we were hotel guests. Pros: pool on rooftop Cons: everything besides the pool! more

Cheesy, wanna-be club scene vibe 8/6/2007

Regarding the bar in the Standard, this pretentious establishment might be an okay place to take out-of-towners who have never been to L.A. The crowd is early twenties, cheesy... lots of shiny shirts and cologne. The unisex bathrooms are gross and wierd. The one redeeming quality of this bar is that it is on the rooftop & you get a nice view. There is a rooftop pool that is open during the day, but it gets crowded with left-over drunks from the previous night on Saturday and Sunday. Go once, so you can tell everyone you've been there and how annoying it was. Pros: nice rooftop view Cons: overcrowded with cheesy 20 year-olds, loud/bad music, gross bathrooms, pretentious. more

All name, no substance. The bar is cool, staying at the hotel is not.... read on if you are considering it. 7/4/2007

I was staying here for 3 nights on business. I felt like I needed to shower after walking from the elevator to my room. For 2 days there was food thrown all over the hallways that I had to step over to get to my room. That's in addition to the hallway smelling of beer and urine. I informed the reception desk twice about the mess before it was taken care of. The room looked cool, and contemporary if you didn't look too closely. The blanket on the bed smelled, the wallpaper was peeling off the walls and the shower pressure was slightly stronger than a drip. There were no tissues in the bathroom, and one of our lights didn't work. In the middle of the night there were multiple heards of drunk, stoned people yelling in the hallways that woke me up several times. Wake up calls came 20 minutes late, and my credit card was billed incorrectly for the stay. $662 extra incorrectly! When asking the concierge about going out for dinner, she wouldn't accept that we wanted to go to Santa Monica or West Hollywood, and kept insisting that we go to Pasedena, where she's from. When I expressed thats not where we want to go, she claimed to not know any restaurants except for Pasedena. The hotel bar / pool is cool, but listen, you don't have to stay at this dump to go there, infact if it is a pleasent hotel experience you are looking for, I would suggest not staying here. It's all name and very little attention to the customer. I think these reviews are very important to keep businesses honest about their services. I frequent a lot of hotels becuase of my work, and I am in customer service. I was very disspointed in my experience here. I hope the one they are building in New York will have more attention to detail. Pros: bar and pool Cons: customer service, cleanliness of hotel more
