Weak Drinks, Boring atmosphere 3/2/2009

The place has a culture gap and I am 23, wanting to drink a Mango Martini and it was weak and sugary. Its very traditional and authentic. I told them I didn't like it; lucky I didn't have to pay $10 dollars for it. The waiter asked My boyfriend and I if we wanted spicy or mild, we picked mild and the food was so blan. Make sure to order spicy. Order wine, there isn't exactly the hippest bar. Pros: authentic indian dishes Cons: bad martini, slow service more

AMAZING!!!! A MUST TRY!!! 2/14/2009

I had heard a lot about the authentic indian food at the Rupee Room from numerous friends who absolutely raved about the place so me and a few family members decided to try it. Needleess to say not one of us was disappointed. From the moment we walked in the waiters were extremely attentive. The food was delicious and the atomosphere was amazing. We even met the owner and were impressed by how friendly he was and mingled with everyone although obviously very busy. We're definately going back!!!!! Pros: Delicious food, great service Cons: Hard to find more

Go for bad service and cold takeout 6/22/2008

On May 10, 2008, I placed a take-out order with Rupee Room (I had eaten there two or three times previously). I called at around 7:45pm and was told my order would be ready in twenty minutes. When I got there, there were 2 other tables with a few diners; not a single other person came in or called during the next 45 minutes as I waited for my order. So ...not exactly busy. Pros: Nothing Cons: They will serve cold food after you wait for 45 minutes more

The general population loves it. Haters will always hate. 9/5/2007

I had my wedding catered by Rupee Room in May 2007. Of course I didn't get to eat anything that night as I was being pushed and pulled from guest to guest. You know what I mean... more

Best Indian Food / Catering anywhere 4/26/2007

I had a huge party at my house and the Inidan party planner recommended this place and I was blown away. They were far superior to any Indain I have eaten in OC. I will be making the trek there to eat at the restaurant as soon as I can. more

Good... Not The Best 3/17/2007

Just got back from a late night dinner with my husband from the rupee room. There was a banquet going on in the other room but wasn't very distracting. The food was pretty good but not the best or authentic there is out there. The fountains were pretty as others have mentioned but the chairs are very odd. Food came quickly and our waiter was extremely attentive. The shrimp biryani was plentiful with lots of shrimp and we had over 1/2 left over. When they packaged up our food to go, it came in plastic containers with lids instead of the standard styrophone. It definitely is going to make me want to eat the leftovers. A little pricey but you pay for fancy dishes and atmosphere. Shopping center it is in seemed pretty dated. Pros: Big shrimp, friendly waiterm good indian beer Cons: odd chairs, a little pricey for what it is. more

Horrible food and Service - New owner 12/16/2006

I returned to this restaurant after about a year and a half. The food doesnt look and taste the same atall. We ordered a naan assortment basket and got all plain naan, with a small wedge of onion naan and half a garlic naan. I guess the new owner is cheap and cant let go of an onion and a few garlic cloves. When we questioned the waiter we were told, this is how they serve it maybe we are ""confused"". The Chicken Makhani was watered down, and the Malai Kofta was cooked in the Makhani sauce. I guess the chef needs some cooking lessons. The Malai Kofta is supposed to be mixed vege dumplings, but this chef made it solely out of potatoes. Cheapsters. The waiters just smile and walk away when u ask them something. We waited 20 minutes for water and another 15 minutes for our order to be taken. Guys, there are better options out there. We were going to hold a banquet here, good lords no..... Pros: pretty decorations Cons: Everything else more

Modern Indian Fusion in the OC!!! 1/21/2006

In the mood for something spicy, exotic and tasty? Then Rupee Room is for you. This hidden treasure tucked away in the heart of OC won't be hidden for much longer. The stylish ambience adds to the experience of fine, yet affordable indian and thai cuisine. Its the perfect blend of spices and flavors. I highly recommend the ""bread basket"", a mixture of the best indian breads on the menu. Also the ""daal"", a creamy lentil dish, is a must have. more

The New Standard for Indian Dining- Until new owner came 11/12/2005

I have been forced to revise my prior review. Though the restuarant initially was one of my favorites, it is now a very typical indian restaurant without any imagination and very average food. Pros: indian food, in Orange county, no crowds Cons: average food, no real house specials, very average more

My Rupeetini 10/17/2005

Order either the Lychee martini or the Mangotini you cannot go wrong. I went there with a group of friends and just ate the entire tandoor selection and tried some mango chicken. The server helped us with selecting the best combinations of thai and indian, the place is a notch above every other place, especially the delicious food. Pros: Drinks, FOOD, Tandoor Items more

A rupee's worth of service for your dollar!!!! 10/15/2005

1) The martini's were BAD! the glasses were small 2) The food took over an hour to arrive 3) The wine was warm and selection was minimal I'd have to say three strikes and you are out- we expected fusion indian/ thai food- this was kinda indian/ kinda thai- we talked to the maitre'd and he said they were working on their menu and taking customer feedback. The service was medicore- but better than the average indian restaurant. I'd wait awhile to see if the place survives. ps. ask them if their printer is working before you go! Cons: wait, service, drinks more

Funky Fountains 8/11/2005

Just had dinner with my hubby at the Rupee Room....love the glass tables, glass dinnerware, and the silent glass paneled fountain with the softly changing color lights. Food was most fantastic...not only did the HSE roll taste good, it swung like a pendulum (you'll have to see it in person to understand!). Fresh, tasty, vegetables were part of every dish we had. Lots of exotic martinis on the menu. We will go again, and bring some friends! Pros: atmosphere, music, tasty food more

A modern spin 8/4/2005

I went to the Rupee Room for dinner with my girlfriend. The minute I walked in, I knew I was in for a different type of Indian dining experience. No overwrought furniture, no harsh lighting; just a very fresh look and feel. The glass waterfalls catch your eye right as you walk in. The plates and silverware come alive under the lighting scheme as they sit atop machined steel and glass tables. The best part, of course, was the food. I had the pomegranate chicken, (thumbs up!), and the bartender (double thumbs up!) whipped up a tasty round of martinis. Overall, I highly recommend this place for the young and young at heart hipsters who are always on the lookout for a fresh new dining experience. Pros: Bartender, Food, Ambience more

New & Unique 8/2/2005

I was invited by my work colleagues to go out for dinner and drinks. They mentioned this new indo-thai fusion restaraunt. I walked in and immediately fell in love with the ambience. It definetely was not the typical indian restaraunt. The service was great, very friendly and helpful. The food was delicious and the bartender knew exactly what I wanted. I just relaxed to the music, enjoyed my martini and ate A LOT of food. I am definetely going back AND I HIGHLY RECOMMED the Garlic Shrimps...I'm gettin hungry again!!! Pros: Ambience, Great Service, Good Parking Cons: a little hard to find more
