Just go... 5/20/2005

Of all the restaurants, I think this place is the best in Philly. There's nothing else quite like it. It is not a cheap restaurant, but you get a variety of options for ordering the pre fixe menu and even the wine list has options (like half bottles, pre-fixe wine lists, wines by the glass, etc..). Service was excellent and you could even request a tour of the restaurant. Brunch during the week is a great deal-- $12. Sunday brunch is more expensive, but its a good way to check out this place if you don't have money for dinner. Pros: best food, top service, great experience Cons: unaffordable for all more

Best in the City 8/22/2004

My boyfriend and I have been to almost every one of the city's top restaurants and this one stands out above them all. The food was exquisite, full of flavor and fresh ingredients. The pork tenderloin and fluke were to die for. The desserts were a work of art and delicious. I have never seen such a fine service staff. They had the knowlege and politeness of LeBec Fin, but had excellent down-to-earth personalities that allow the customer to be comfortable and have fun. It was an amazing experience and I highly reecommend it for an anniversary or any other special occasion because this restaurant truly acknowleges the occasion and makes it very special. Pros: intimate setting, friendly staff, presentation more

A dinner to remember 7/17/2004

We went to Lacroix a few times and the service is great, view amazing, and the food is innovative and superb. Prices are a little steep but the experience is worth every penny. Le Bec? Fountain Room? Lacroix is the place to experience. Lamb is tender, the duck perfectly cooked, the fish small but melts in your mouth. The ingredients make you feel like you are in France. But remember to save room for dessert such as creme brulees, soufflés and homemade chocolates. But I have to admit the Ice Cream and Sorbet put everything else to shame and the flavors will wow you. They have the basics like vanilla, chocolate, butter pecan, fresh mango and blood orange sorbet, but how about lemon thyme and goat cheese ice cream. Forget store bought ... this is the best I have ever had. Check it out and enjoy! Pros: Ice cream and sorbet, Innovation, Service Cons: , Parking more

Magnificent brunch! 6/15/2004

My only trip to Lacroix so far has been for brunch, but I was impressed by the food and the dining room overlooking Rittenhouse Square. The brunch consists of a buffet, as well as a trip to the kitchen which reveals additional entree-like items such as beef wellington, roast duck, Belgian waffles, etc. The buffet portion had many interesting dishes including lobster noodle quiche, brandade, etc. The raw bar had some beautiful oysters, shrimp, and smoked fish. At $46, it's not cheap, but it's still $10 cheaper than the Four Seasons with a more interesting buffet. Pros: Great dishes, decor, variety more

Phillys BEST 8/26/2003

My wife, her sister and I,dined at Lacroix last Sat. night, and all I can say is it is THE best restaurant in Philadelphia. The waitstaff is very profesional and informative, but not intrusive...the duck, bison, stuffed quail and fois gras were beautifully prepared and presented. I have dined at many ""High End"" restaurants in Philly (Duex Chimines, Monte Carlo, La Famiglia, The Prime Rib, Le Bec Fin, La Jonquille, Ritz Carlton) just to name a few and none of them can compare to Lacroix. BRAVO!!!!!!! Pros: Romantic, Inexpensive Cons: Some small portions more

As good as it gets 6/2/2003

You would be hard pressed to show me a better dining experience than we had at Lacroix. The staff was incredibly friendly. We were seated immediately with no wait. Service was impeccable, but not stuffy in the least. In fact, just the opposite was true. Everyone took the attitude that they were there to serve the customer, not to intimidate him. The wine list was magnificent, the food was incredible. And afterwards the manager took us on a tour of the kitchen. Chef Lacroix had just left, but they took our names and addresses and will mail us autographed menus. I can't think of one thing that wasn't right about the place. Pros: incredible food, customer friendly, beautiful room Cons: hard to find more

Hopefully Just a Bad Night 5/20/2003

I'll admit, I went to Lacroix on a Monday night--traditionally a slow one for restaurants. For the type of sevice (and price) that the restaurant so clearly aspires to, the staff reeks of corporateness. With clinking plates and glasses, slow pacing, a lack of elegance and at times, even a hint of what might have been rudeness, they seem many grades above your average Applebee's waiter, but of the same breed. The food is uninspired--good French cooking, but when held next to the more daring cuisine to be found in the rest of the city, the dishes almost universally fall flat. A duck fois gras was tastless, and most of the fish our large party ordered was not hot enough and bland. Hopefully, Friday or Saturday nights don't find a real chef, manager and menu missing from Lacroix. Pros: wine list, portions Cons: Service, Creativity more

best new restaurant in Philly 3/11/2003

I went there twice for dinner and brunch. Brunch was just fabulous with an oyster/shrimp bar, caviar and beautifully prepared dishes without the usual salad fillers. Lovely and overindulgent. Dinner showed inventiveness and beautiful preparation. Some of my companions were not thrilled with some of their dishes but this was because the chef was using new combinations of spices and preparation methods not usually seen with the dish. I thought it was unique and delicious. Pros: Inventive food, beautifully prepared, gorgeous room Cons: expensive more

Ooh La Lacroix 1/14/2003

If you appreciate understated class, check out Lacroix. Beautiful second-floor view of Rittenhouse Square, polite and intelligent staff, and top-quality steak knives imported from France - you'll already feel surrounded in elegance, and the food hasn't even arrived yet. Lacroix serves a degustation menu that allows for nearly infinite combinations of courses, resulting in a creative and unique dinner. Although the portions are small (in true French fashion), the meal progresses at such a leisurely pace, I was full before my fourth course arrived. Save room for dessert, and try the ""Chestnut on the Square"" with four different chestnut-centered desserts. Magnifique! Pros: Great Wine List, Valet Parking more

Best of the Best 1/4/2003

I have eaten at LaCroix twice in the last 6 weeks. It was outstanding on both occasions. We coincidentally had the same waiter both times, who was excellent. The food was an amazing blend of subtle, beautiful flavors that worked wonderfully together to create a dining experience that was a top notch experience. If there was a view of the Eiffel Tower, it would've been as good as any place I'd been to in Paris. Tres Bien! more

Made it on my top 5 11/25/2002

Amazing. Delicious. Mouth-watering. Worth every penny. I opted for the 3-course meal (instead of the temptuous 4 and 5 courses). However, they all come with dessert, and the portions are generous. I are the foie gras with figs, Maine Lobster, and Lamb - all cooked to perfection. I highly recommend this establishment to anyone who will appreciate the fine dining experience. Service was excellent to say the least. Pros: Service, Wine selection, Course options Cons: Hidden in the Hotel more

Look Out George Perrier... 11/19/2002

Classic Frech Cuisine in a polished, approachable setting. But in a word...Value. The Price Fixe menu offers you the option of how many courses and choices within each course. From the $75 menu (the most expensive, $55, & $65) I drooled over Sweet Breads, Foie Gras, Lobster, Lamb, added Cheese course, (a steal at $10) and a Chocolate Soufle. The six courses (plus Amuse and Petit Fours) were perfectly prepared, the service was well executed, and when the bill came I was astounded. For two people this experience was only $250. That was with the most expensive menu, adding cheese, bottle of white wine and half bottle of red. The meal was worth twice that. I've eaten at every great restaurant from Daniel, French Laundry, and, Trotters and this meal was a true value. Those of you clamering to go to Le Bec Fin must have money to burn. Pros: Superb Food, Great Service, Huge Wine List Cons: Searching the Hotel, You may Wait Awhile more

Boathouse Row Bar lost its oars 11/15/2002

Since new management the bar has gone from great to horrible and it will only get worse. The servers are great people but management has seemed to get the best of them. Its ok though, if you want to try a place with good food and a great chef try Blue Bell Country Club. Youll find a good percentage of the old Rittenhouse staff there which used to make the Rittenhouse shine. Now, Blue Bell stands tall. Pros: service, atmosphere Cons: expensive, bad parking, management more
