best lunch food in downtown! 2/13/2008

I love the Raleigh Times. I do wish that it was bigger because it's hard to get a seat or even get in the door at night, but there's a reason for it! Everyone that works there is really nice, too. The food is delicious. Love the fried pickles, even the bbq is delicious! And I'm hard to please on the bbq. It's nice and juicy. The avocado, tomato, and parmesan sandwich is delicious, and the fries are great, too! Pros: great food Cons: always too packed! but what can you do? more

Gourmet bar food 1/7/2008

I've eaten at the Raleigh Times Bar on a couple occasions because it seems to be the only place I can find that is open for lunch on a Saturday. The food is always fantastic and that is what I go for. The menu is mostly sandwiches and burgers but they do have special plates and soups/salads. The service has never been perfect for me. You sit where ever you can find a clean table and eventually someone comes by with menus. It has been busy every visit so they get around to you when they can. It isn't a place I would go if I were in a hurry. The portions are definitely lunch-sized, I sometimes wish they were a little larger because the food is always delicious. more

Best Bar in Raleigh 11/2/2007

Moved to Raleigh about a year ago, and Raleigh Times is the best bar I've found. Cool and hip (yet not overhip--see my Rockford review), staff is cool, food's good, beer selection excellent. Just a really chill yet cool atmosphere. I plan to become a regular! Pros: Great vibe, excellent beer selection, creative bar food Cons: Can get really busy and hard to get a spot at the bar more

good times, great oldies 9/19/2007

I think the last person must of had a bad day. anyone that goes to the times bar knows that the staff is awesome and the layed back attitude with good service is what makes it special. i have been going to the time about three times a week for about a year and the people that work there are what makes it great. not to mention great food and atmosphere. nothin but love to the RTB. more

That bad review is totally wack 9/13/2007

I cannot condone such a bad review of Raleigh Times. This place is super hip, had great food, great beer and I have great service every time I'm there. Even when the bar is slammed (which is all the time) I enjoy the scene and the service. I must say I miss the sausage app they took off the menu, but I will go on without it.... more

Whoa 8/30/2007

Looks like the Raleigh Times is getting beat up here. I personally have found the service to much better than it used to be. Lunch is a hell of a lot quicker and night time is much more umm... happier. The staff doesn't look like they have been horse whipped anymore. I have met both managers and Ben in the kitchen and none seem surly or NYC at all. What's this about them telling you to grab a seat? IT""S A BAR!! What do you want to happen, someone to hold your hand and tell you it'll be ok? Look the food is great, the beer list is wonderful, the atmosphere is very cozy and the staff is nicer. I'll like Jay and Dave too. The pony tail guy has to go I admit. more

No time for the Times? 8/11/2007

I would agree with most of the postings. I have been there several times and not sure why I go back. Atmosphere is good, food is typical for a bar, however the wait staff and bartenders are extremely rude. This is a bar and getting a beer or asking a question about the menu are common questions you receive at bars. The staff acts like you are bothering them no matter how small the task? If it is such a pain to get a beer, why are you a bartender? Pros: Atmosphere Cons: Staff more

Great Food... 8/7/2007

... awful service. The ""c'mon in, sit anywhere"" schitck just doesn't hold up this place, it's impossible to find a seat and when you do, the waitstaff ignores you. Literally. Or they're rude. My advice? Sit at the bar and pray that Dave or Jay Winfrey waits on you, they're two of the best bartenders in town, and a couple of the only reasons to frequent The Times. Great location, lots of potential, but I won't take this place seriously until the waitstaff perks up and starts treating their customers with a little respect and consideration. I mean, they are working for tips, right? Pros: Great bartenders Cons: the music is ALWAYS too loud. more

Great Food-- Horrible Service 7/26/2007

Anyone who knows the Raleigh Times Bar must recognize the latest and greatest review to be absolute PR BS. I have a hard time believing anyone who has been there has had anything close to the euphoric experience as described in the review below. more

This city does have some history! 7/1/2007

This weekend I had the pleasure of stumbling in to one of this cities best kept secrets! This place is great from start to finish! We started out sitting at the bar where we blown away by the decoration! I was so excited to be sitting in a bar with some history around here, no cookie cutters used here! We sat at the bar and were promptly greeted by the bartender, Chris who told us about the beer selection and what he recommended for everyones taste. I had the Dogfish Berliner-Weiss and my lady tried a Kolsch, 2 beers I have never even HEARD of! And we both fell in love! We ended up staying to grab something to eat from their kitchen that stays open til 2AM! My wife was excited to have multiple vegetarian options and I was sold when I tried their NC BBQ Nachos. I will definitely goack and its good to see their is more to Raleigh than Glenwood Avenue! Pros: Beer Selection, Service, Food Cons: Limited outdoor seating more

Horrible service GREAT FOOD 4/27/2007

I just dont get it. I have been to this place probably 6 or 7 times because of the food, and 4 of the times i have had horrible service. I swore I wouldnt go back, but i heard they had new managment so i gave it another try. Once again i was disapointed! The food as always was good but my girlfriend and I were only 2 of 6 people in the place and the bartender not only ignored us but belched about 4 feet away from us (not a little accidental one a loud obnoxius belch). I GIVE UP good food or not i will not go back. more

My Favorite Bar Period! 3/28/2007

The Raleigh Times, if you don't know it you don't know anything. I have been coming here for the last few months and what you have is this. The atmosphere is played perfectly with the newspaper of past. There is no feel of ""concept"" at all. Easily the best food at the price. It is bar food however you just don't get bar food like this anywhere. There is not a better beer list anywhere in the Triangle. Bigger yes, none better. If you do know the bar you probably know about the lack luster service, not bad, just not great. Well not anymore, theres new management it seems which prompted me to write this. My last three months I have never had anyone really take much interest in me until the last two times I was in there. I was in one night with a few friends and one girl with us said she wanted wine but not any of the ones offered. A guy a few tables away must have heard that and he stopped what he was doing got up and came over. Said his name was David and asked the girl what she liked. He said he'd be right back. He returned with a few bottles of white wine opened them and poured her a few tastes. She asked how much they cost and he replied four and five dollars! Where are there 4 and 5 buck glasses of wine? He mentioned that there weren't on the list yet but would be by the coming weekend. We spent about five minutes speaking with him and he really just made her night. She tried three of the new wines and was surprised how good they were. I honestly enjoyed the entire exchange with David he really seemed love that bar and said he felt lucky to inherit such a great place. The next time he saw us walk in and stopped to say hi. That was the first time that anyone remembered us there. It great to see someone taking interest. Note that I consult with food and beverage groups nationally and my eye is trained for this stuff. I hope the new fella keeps it up, he has indeed convinced me. Here's to the bar keep, thanks for looking out for us. Pros: The food, the drink, the venue, the manager. Cons: Hopefully none soon. more

The best burger I've ever had... 2/18/2007

I'm new to the area, and I've been looking for the perfect burger. Well, my search is over. Raleigh Times makes the juiciest, tastiest hamburger I've ever had, and I've eaten them the world over. Here's a tip, though: order it medium-rare, despite what the waitress might tell you. The ambience in the place is great: industrial, airy, but still cozy enough to not feel cold. While the drinks may be a little pricey, their phenomonal selection takes precedence, with a wide array of scotches and Belgian beers. The arugula salad was fresh and earthy, and the loaded fries perfectly done (fried, then baked with the toppings...fantastic). I went fairly early on a weeknight, so I don't know how the bar scene is. But I'll definitely be back regularly for that burger. Pros: Out of this world burger; bar food with gourmet flair; good service; great drink selection Cons: Drinks can be a little expensive more

Cozy, fun, great beer and food! 11/20/2006

Just tried this place last weekend for the first time. It was fantastic! The food is comfort bar food with a creative twist. Amazing beer selection and a quaint warm atmosphere. You must order the fried pickles...they are much better than one would expect and the thing that will keep me coming back to this place! Pros: Beer! Fried pickles, beef tips, and a killer burger. Cons: crowded and maybe a bit loud. more

Modern pub atmosphere with amazing Belgian beers and original bar food 9/6/2006

I think my title really says it all. The fact that it is a historic landmark just adds to this great watering hole. If you like good beer and ""semi-healthy"" bar food, this is the place to meet your friends to wind down. Pros: Atmosphere, beer selection, unique pub food Cons: parking, choosing which beer to drink first more
