Best

This was our third trip to OLB. The first two were horrendous due to the service, but things seem to have changes. Our server was very friendly, prompt, and took great care of us....

Worst

My husband and I tried Old Blinking Light twice. It has a very interesting menu with a sort of Tex-Mex/Southwestern flair on every item. The first time we thought the food was p...

Good Service 6/1/2011

Service was good. The outdoor patio with fire pit is great. more

Enjoyable Evening 5/24/2011

First of all the service was excellent. Our waiter was attentive but not overbearing and did not try and push us out the door even though we lingered enjoying the summer evening. The food was very good (ribs were excellent and love the duck fat fried potatoes, halibut good but my wife didn't enjoy the pairing of the sweet halibut with strawberries with the very spice rice side, thought each was good on its own but the pairing was too overwhelming in their differences.) Did see they have a great happy hour menu that we are planning on going back for. Definitely planning on going back again. I think this place had some problems when they first opened but right now I would recommend them to anyone looking for an enjoyable evening out. more

Nice Meal 5/17/2011

I had a really nice meal at Old Blinking Light in Town Center Highlands Ranch Saturday Night. I have eaten there three times now and not had the same thing twice. That is rare for me. The Scottish Salmon with Brussels sprouts and mustard sauce was very good. I also recommend the Massa encrusted scallops in lemon broth. Unfortunately the wilted beet greens were a little gritty and not cleaned sufficiently. That was an execution issue that should be corrected but the dish is a winner. For an appetizer, think about having the flash fried avocado with Mexican cream or fire-roasted jalapeño with cheese grits. more

Great experience 5/10/2011

I eat at the Old Blinking Light at least once a week. Not only do they have a great menu, for lunch and for dinner, but they have an incredibly friendly staff. They also have a great patio which is comfortable in the summer keeping you cool with misters and in the winter keeping you warm with the large fire pit, overhead heating and blankets. I would most defiantly recommend this restaurant to anyone that enjoys a great dining experience. more

Full of praise 5/5/2011

"WOW, all I can say is wow. Top to bottom this place is dynamite; Excellent thoughtful service; full, well prepared menu and dishes; great post modern atmosphere. This is located in the Highlands Ranch Town Center near the Tattered Book Cover. I have driven by this place for the past few years and never made it in. Any restaurant that has made it two years is saying something good for highlands ranch, especially a non chain. The atmosphere is a nice blend of industrial architecture, interesting lighting, and flame elements to add ambiance. Very soothing and strangely warm. They have a patio with a huge fire pit and ample sarape's (Mexican blankey) to battle the evening chill. Additionally they have a nice big bar and replete with comfy lounge and social big table to mingle at. All of this sounds like a nice romantic place or a trendy yet welcoming restaurant which it is. The food is a nice modern new Mexican with plenty of creativity and flavor. The bread they serve come with a Poblano butter which is sooooo good. We tried the flash fried avocado with pico de gallo and that was sooo tasty and neuvo mexicano, a superbly done appetizer. My wife had the ceviche tacos which she made disappear in no time flat. i had the Buffalo burger because I am lame sometimes but it was the best burger I have had in Denver easily, nothing comes close. My father had the Texas chili and a spinach salad. My son who was being a royal stinker didn't want anything from the kids menu full of favorites so the waiter asked him what he wanted which was a burrito, the waiter then had the burrito specially made by the culinary master in the kitchen. Our waiter had mind reading skills and never left us feeling anything other than well taken care of. We havent had a waiter of his caliber in years. The family left stuffed, full of praise, and planning our next trip back to the Old Blinking light. South Denver Finally has a dining reason worth driving to!" more

delicious 5/2/2011

I ate here the night before Thanksgiving with family who were in from out of town. The restaurant has a modern feel, but also a sense of coziness (for example, fires burning both inside and out on a very chilly night makes for a comfy feel). As it was rather late by the time we ordered, we did not order any appetizers. The wine selection was above average, both for bottles and glasses. I drank a glass of the house Pinot Grigio, followed by a glass of Cabernet with my dinner. Speaking of which, there were several entrees that looked and tasted good. I ordered the Poblano Relleno with Risotto, Spanish Paprika, and Ratatouille with Tomato Buerre Blanc. A delicious meal, though I thought the Relleno could have used a bit more of a kick (however, others at the table thought it was either just right, or a bit spicy, so take my observation with a grain of salt). The service was excellent all around. The restaurant is a bit pricier than I expected, though not in the exhorbitant range (if you are drinking, be prepared to pay). Overall, a good time was had by all! more

Great Atmosphere 4/29/2011

My boyfriend and I tried OBL for the first time on Valentine's Day. What a lovely way to celebrate! The atmosphere is very comfortable and the man who got our table ready (who I'm guessing was an owner, or at least a manager) was very welcoming. Our server was great, too - casual and friendly without being in-your-face, but also efficient. As for the food, it was delicious! I highly recommend the stuffed jalapenos as an appetizer. Stuffed with cheesy grits?! YUM. The complimentary cornbread was also tasty. I had a green chili burger which was very flavorful, though a tad dry. Problem solved by adding some house-made chipotle aioli. My boyfriend's ribs were so tender they fell off the bone. Even though we were stuffed, we ordered the banana bread sundae for dessert - SO worth it! Oh, and one of my favorite parts of the meal was the fantastic pomegranate margarita. We will definitely return, hopefully when it's warmer and we can enjoy their sweet patio. more

Great Food 4/18/2011

I'm sold! My employer uses the private dinning room for our weekly lunch meetings, so we've had plenty of time with the menu. Our server is always spot on. The food is always great. Their duck salad is addictive and if they have a special, go for it. The chef really gets really creative with them. Highly recommended for meetings or events. more

Friendly good food 4/13/2011

Good food, friendly service and in the warmer weather the patio is a great place to watch the world go by. Not fancy and not 'home cooking' but still their smaller plates are great for what they are meant to be. more

d, wait for it, elicious 4/6/2011

very cool place. The design team is first rate. The food team, while trying, is not up to the same standard. Some dishes are lovely. Romaine and green apple salad-YUM. Peppers stuffed with cheese grits-sometimes YUM. Better than most. Try it. more

Delicious 3/29/2011

The service was very good, the beer cold, and the food really good. I'm a big fan of sweet potato fries, and these are the best by far. My meal came out, and everything was as advertised. I wish the menu were a little bigger, but I'll be back soon to try something else other than the spicy chicken tostadas. Give it a try! more

Dont pass this place up! 3/23/2011

"Wow! What a find in HR! The food is excellent, the decor is fantastic, and the service is spot-on. It's our new favorite, and we're not all that easy to please. It's great to have something of this caliber to go to in the area. Please go so we can keep it around! You will NOT be disappointed. Why we ever passed it by to go to the restaurant next door is beyond me, but it will never happen again! The patio with fireplace looks like a great place to have drinks, but it's been too cold (well, for ME!) both times we've gone." more

Great food! 3/16/2011

Killer food! Great service! The chicken enchiladas with avocado are simply unreal. The portion is so huge I took it home and got 1 1/2 more meals out of it. I love this place. It's a great addition to my neighborhood. more

Great Service 3/9/2011

"OBL is a great place for happy hour and the food is consistent. I've been here many times before and I really like the place. Service is great, whether you are sitting at the bar or at a table. I was just there last night for the first time in a couple of weeks. I was so disappointed to see they had changed the menu and in doing so took the jalapeno (green chile maybe) mac n cheese off the menu. I'm sorry, but you have to leave mac n cheese on any menu cause it's a staple.....especially at an adult restaurant when it's yum-yum good. This was not your kids mac n cheese!!! They have a great patio, complete with a fire pit. So if it's not too chilly it's great fun to sit outside and have a drink." more

This is our favorite place to go to in Highlands Ranch 2/28/2011

It has a smaller menu, that sometimes I wish was bigger, however, what they do, they do very well. The change the menu occasionally which is nice. I saw the head chef at the Farmer's Market buying local produce for the restaurant which made me very happy, and only makes me love the restaurant more. My husband and I love to come here when we have a sitter, and sit by the fire outside and talk. I've come for meals with groups of friends, for dessert and coffee a different time, and for drinks and appetizers many times. All of my experiences have been great. The food is interesting and yummy. I do wish they had more vegetarian and vegan main dishes, but I always find something I like on the menu. They have a Happy Hour during the week, I think from 3-6pm where they have drinks for $3 (some beers, some wine, and I had a margarita once) and they have a few appetizers for $3 also. Otherwise the wine and drink list is on the more expensive side - expect to spend $10 on a cocktail or for their least expensive wine. I have seen kids here many times, and they seem happy, and they haven't bothered me, however I wouldn't take my kids here. It's also a fun place to take people (non-chain) that are visiting from out of state, if you don't feel like driving all the way up to Denver for dinner. more

So far... GREAT! 2/23/2011

Love having such a great place in Highlands Ranch. They have a really nice happy hour with food specials to go along with it. With those specials running, we bring the kids - they split a plate of the chicken nachos and they love it. Love the patio in the summer. All of the food we have tried has been great. more

So yummy! 2/14/2011

One of the best secrets in south denver. So yummy! Love the decor and firepit. Try the duck salad or fried avocado. Their new chef has really turned this place around. more

You won't be disappointed! 2/9/2011

Brian, behind the bar, shakes up the best cosmos we have ever had! They are so good that I asked him to share the recipe and he did. But as often as I practice, I never make them quite as good. The servers are great and they really work at remembering repeat customers. It is like a Cheers bar gone urban. They used to have "fat" duck fat fries but made a switch awhile back to thinner ones which are too similar to other restaurants. We like the "fat" ones better. Go during happy hour and try out a few of their 1/2 price appetizers and cosmos. You won't be disappointed! more

Amazing night 2/3/2011

Never had such a fun bar experience! Best margaritas! I am going to eat there whenever I can. Nicest staff. Including the manager Lance, really accommodating group. Made me feel at home. Fried avocado! more

Great food, the service was spot on 1/27/2011

Just ate at OBL for the first time tonight. Great food, the service was spot on (Matt is a great server), and the atmosphere was laid back. We saw all ages enjoying OBL; families, singles, friends, first dates and married couples. If OBL were in Larimer, Tamayo would have serious competition. more
