Beautiful place- but... 9/11/2011

My husband and I wanted to do something relaxing for our 3rd year anniversary..so we booked the couples package. The receptionist gave us her last appointment on the books for a friday night which was 7:15pm. We arrived 15min. early like they had advised on the phone when I made the appointment , we filled out the paper work (which is really only a page front and back). Whilst we were doing so an attendant came up to us and asked us what we were having done- which I thought kind of strange- aren't they supposed to know what their guests booked their appointments for? She then brought us some sandals and robes- she gave us a quick tour but didn't really say anything about our treatments. My husband and I had a long day so we decided to take showers before out treatments we came out and another attendant met me and from that moment on I knew we were being rushed into our appointment. We went into the Ofuro room and she said verbatim "We are running low on time so I am going to skim right through this" Thomas and I looked at each other confused. She served us our tea told us how the back scrubbing area is used pointed to some cold wet towels she said were kept in a fridge and let us know that a bell would ring and that would be out notice to leave the room in 5 minutes so that she could clean the room and left. we were there for about 25 minutes and the bell rang! we thought we had the room for an hour from the moment the attendant left the room! While we were waiting for our massages we asked someone about this - she said she would look into it but never got back to us. We went in the sauna for a few minutes and our missuses came to meet us and gave us the news that our couples massage that we had booked in the same room were going to be in different rooms due to a a scheduling problem- my missus later told me that the two couples rooms were being used by two single people one in each room. They were very apologetic and we tried to understand but it was a huge let down, specially after our experience in the ofuro bath. The only name is remember is Amanda- she was a sweet heart and worked some magic! We had really good conversation and periods of nice relaxing silence. I loved it she even went a little over in our time together- When I came out to meet my husband he looked so disappointed I felt so horrible- This was supposed to be a relaxing time for both of us! We have a 1 yr. old daughter who likes to be held and loves her dad but his back is pretty tore up on the right side- he explained this to her and he thinks she forgot or was not listening because she worked extra hard on his left side.. then he said that the massage itself was not the greatest. we went into the steam room for a little bit after the massages- that was really great. Their tea and chocolates are pretty awesome too. They gave us about %20 off the regular price because of the booking problem with our massages but heard nothing about the ofuro bath time issue My husband ended up paying %20 for gratuity anyway so it brought it back up to the original price of not $220 like it says on their site but $240 . In all I don't know if I would recommend it or return if not only to have another massage with Amanda - she saved the experience for me, sadly for my husband he will not be returning. more

Lovey Spa 6/26/2010

When I called to book my appointment the receptionist was obviously in a hurry and spoke to me like I was interrupting her day. This put me off but I love the Kura Door so I went ahead and scheduled my treatments. (Note: when I paid at the end of my appointment the receptionist had a similar attitude.) I've been pretty stressed by work and I was really looking forward to a relaxing day at the spa. Unfortunately, when I arrived in the waiting room there was a loud group of women getting pedicures in a room next door so it was difficult to enjoy what is usually a very calm atmosphere. My massage was amazing and I felt wonderul when it was finished. I went to relax in the meditation room but I discovered that it's on the other side of the pedicure roomand there was another noisy group getting their toes done. I'm baffled as to why they placed the pedicure room where they did because it detracts so much from the ambiance. That being said the spa attendant was wonderful and she continually made sure that I had tea and anything else I needed to enjoy my day. I highly recommend their massages. I will definitely be going back but I really hope they relocate their pedicure room and have the receptionists polish their customer service skills. Pros: Amazing massages, wonderful spa attendant. Cons: Location of pedicure room, some receptionists. more

The most amazing Valentines Day of my life! 2/24/2010

Hands down the best spa in town! My husband and I were lucky enough to get appointments at the Kura Door during Valentines weekend. I was blown away by the attention to detail! Our Ofuro bath was amazing! We will always recomend a Kura Massage! I loved the Epicuren lotions, and the hot towels, our therapist were amazing! My Pedicure was amazing, the products were beautifully presented, I was kept warm and cozy, I could tell my technician was very well trained, he even helped me select my nail polish color to suit my relaxed mood, its been over a week and my toes still look perfect. I love the organic nail polish. The Sauna and Steam room are great, your technician will even recomend what amenity you will benefit from after your treatment! To the owners, and staff of the Kura Door, thank you much for an unforgettable experience on Valentines day! Pros: Amazing Staff, Beautiful Spa, Organic Products, Green spa! Cons: No Kura Door in Park City more

Professional/friendly Director and staff. 8/1/2009

We were visiting from out of town and got our appointment times all messed up. When we arrived, we were treated extremely warm and friendly by their Director who directed her front desk staff into accommodating us. Not only that, but she made us tea and offered us chocolates......and it was OUR fault we were late! Our massages were the best we've ever had and the spa is so beautiful! We will be back. Pros: The best spa in Salt Lake City Cons: None. more

Brandon is here! 7/19/2009

Nailed Salon's loss is Kura Door's gain. Brandon is no longer at Nailed but is happily at the best Spa in town Kura Door. By the way the people at Nailed would not tell me where he went, shame on them. Pros: Kura Door now has the best nails in town more

Kura Door was amazing 5/22/2009

Went to a great spa - Kura Door - located in the Avenues a short drive from the hotel I was staying at. Japanese inspired look to spa, CLEAN, great service, I had an hour massage and an hour pedicure both were divine. I live in Apsen now and grew up in NYC so the prices to me were very reasonable $80 for an hour massage and $50 for a spa/hour pedicure - they use organic/natural nail polish - cool. They also sell tons of products for skin etc. I had to avert my eyes to escape with out buying anything. Steam room and sauna too Pros: Awesome massage in pretty surroundings, organic products too more

Best Service Anywhere 8/15/2008

I just wanted to say that the staff at The Kura Door is amazing. My fiance and I went in the other day and there was a mixup with our reservation, it was not in the system. We were originally told that we would be unable to do all the treatments we had wanted to do, two massages, an Okura bath, a reflexology treatment and a hair treatment. They were only able to do the massages and the bath. After our massages your staff managed to get everything arranged to get us the services we had requested! We were also given a discount for the mistake, a tea service and chocolates with our bath. What was originally a bit of a let down turn out to a wonderful experience and a exceptional show of service. We will definitely return to The Kura Door and recommend it to all of our friends. Pros: Use of sauna and steam room, service, massages are great Cons: double check reservations more

Beautiful Spa 4/10/2008

The Japanese idea of the spa is great and it's beautiful inside. They are very courteous and professional. I had the facial which was nice but there was nothing special about it. I paid close to $100, and didn't feel the service equaled the price. It's really expensive there. Parking is a drag sometime. Pros: Friendly staff Cons: high price more

Wonderful facials!!! 3/27/2008

I have been a facial buff for almost 10 years now, and they have the BEST facials here! I used to go to Breathe, but the services have dropped severely. I decided to try the Kura Door, and it was AWESOME!!! I love the Arcona products they use, and they didn't pressure me into buying anything while I was there. I highly recommend the rejuvenation facial. It's pricey, but your skin will look amazing later. Even the regular Yin/Yang facial is awesome. I also enjoyed the Sake pedicure, although I do not care so much for the pedicure room. I have not had a massage here yet, but you get so much massage during your facial I'm sure the massages are awesome. The only complaint I have is I don't like the changing rooms. It is not very private. I am not very into the undressed people walking around. They also don't have the best refreshments, and they never have sugar for their tea. All in all, I recommend the Kura Door if you want a good facial. I especially recommend Isis or Angela as aestheticians! Pros: Awesome facials, Arcona products are great! Cons: not much privacy in the changing rooms, not good refreshments more

Great couples package 12/14/2007

My boyfriend and I treated ourselves to the couples package for our two year anniversary and it was the best spa/massage experience I've ever had. We had never been there before and everyone I spoke with from makeing the appointment to arriving at the spa and through out the entire experience was so nice and helpful. I had never been to a japanese style spa before and the tea service was wonderful, we found a new favorite tea. But with out a doubt the thing that set our experience apart from other places we've been was the bath. What a perfect way to relax together and loosen up your muscles for a great massage. We shared a room for our massage and it was wonderful. I would definatly go back over and over. Also they have appointment times later in the evening so scheduling was really easy Pros: wonderful atmosphere, friendly and helpful staff, Cons: parking, that I can't afford to go all the time more

wonderful 12/8/2007

I love the Kura door. I have been going here for years and always rave about it. I have done massages and facials only and love both but especially the yin facial. I love the atmosphere and the delicious smell, the tea and infused water and the figs and almonds. the staff has always been wonderful and I leave feeling fabulous and promising I will come back more often. It is located in the aves so parking is scarce but I've always found room on the street nearby. I adore this spa. Pros: so beautiful, relaxing wonderful massage Cons: pricey like everywhere, but worth it more

best bath ever! 11/17/2007

I came to the Kura door for my birthday this year with my husband. We had the couple's ofuro bath and couple's massage. It was SO relaxing and romantic. It was the highlight of my birthday! I can't wait to go back! The bath is so relaxing and the teas they serve are delicious. The massage therapist I had was very very good too! I was impressed! Pros: Great bath, relaxing enviornment Cons: Parking, didn't like the shared locker room more

they take green to an extreme - and that's no good!!! 9/4/2007

So I definitely feel the be good to our planet vibe - but give me a break!!! When I schedule a pedicure all the bells and whistles are great, but at the end I want a fabulous paint job. This "environmentally friendly" nail polish is a total disaster - it is thick and gooey and doesn't wear well at all. And the staff's personality and attention to customer service isn't much better. So I will continue to recycle and invest in wind energy - but when I want a pedicure I'll go someplace where giving a good pedicure and treating customers well is actually their goal. Trust me and skip this place.......it isn't worth the many $$$$'s you shell out for totally inadequate service Pros: the spa is lovely - if only the service matched Cons: staff doesn't seem to care, product choices, parking is a headache more

Great Spa, just a few things I would change.... 8/13/2007

I went with two of my wonderful friends to get hour long massages. We all got the Kura massage. The atmosphere was very nice. Our apointment was right on time. We arrived 20 minutes early (which is a must and is recomended on thier website) to fill out paperwork, leave our shoes at the door, put on our spa shoes and change into a robe. There is a sauna, a tea room where you can relax and chat, a meditation room and a steam room. The steam room was ok but it could have been bigger. It would have been nice if it had been easier to find the essential oils that you can use in the steam room and the button to turn it on. Also be aware that the sauna, steam room and two waiting areas are co-ed. Shortly after changing and enjoying some water we each were taken for our massages. I loved my massage, the atmosphere was wonderful, my massuse was great. I loved the hot towels that were used and being able to pick the scent of my massage lotion (it is in the tea room so I recomend picking one before getting too cozy). We all agreed the massages were wonderful. After we were going to relax in the steam room but since we were a group of three and one person was in there we didn't fit so we went into the sauna. Later we went in the steam room once it was empty. There was only one other thing that could have been improved upon was there was only one shower. All in all I loved my experiance at the Kura Door and would recomend it to others. Pros: great atmopshere, great massage, very relaxing Cons: only one shower, not for those who are uncomfortable with areas being co-ed more

Very Unprofessional Business Management 8/2/2007

To be honest I have never used the services at the spa but my experience with them has been less then professional. I applied for a job with them and had an interview scheduled. I live in So. Utah and drove up for my interview. Upon arrival for my interview I was informed that the person interviewing went home ill and was rescheduled for another day. No call or contact informing me about the cancelled interview. I understand things happen. Drove back to So. Utah and the day before my rescheduled interview I received a call informing me that the position had been filled. I could not believe it. The rude way I was treated just by applying for a job at the spa makes me never want to support them. I only hope that they treat there guests better then I was treated. I will never forget this experience and hope all who plan on working at the spa thick twice before they submit there application. Just wanted to share what I feel was a very unprofessional business practice. Pros: Cant think on any Cons: Business Management more

Best Indulgent Experience in Salt Lake City 1/3/2007

i could go on and on about the kura door- it is AMAZING! i love spas in general, but the kura door tops them all. first of all, they maintain a peaceful and calming environment. they also have a sauna and steam room to use before or after your treatment. the staff is amazing, i love a strong massage, and i've never been let down. i also love the room full of light where you can wait and mix your own teas. the whole experience feels like such an INDULGENCE- but is so reasonably priced! whether you love spas or if you're just looking for one to try, this is the one! i won't go anywhere else in the city. Pros: amazing experience, perfect ambiance, reasonably priced more

beautiful, friendly staff, great services, unique 10/16/2006

this is a really phenomenal spot - so much more than just a spa...this place is an experience. my husband took me to the kura door last saturday night for our anniversary and i was blown away by the beauty of the interior and the attention to detail. i will return again and again and will sing its praises to everyone i know. recommendation: the couples retreat - a tea service, japanese bath and massage in a couples room - a must! Pros: beautiful, great services, everyone was very accommodating Cons: n/a more

wow - like being out of town 10/16/2006

wow! i have never been moved to write a review! this place is amazing. one of the most beautiful spaces i have ever been in, first of all. i had the ofuro experience with a massage and enzyme facial...spectacular therapists and over the top treatments. i am a true spa girl and i will only go to the kura door from now on - honestly rivals experiences i've had in thailand and other 5-star resort spas. what a pleasant surprise! Pros: incredible ambience, fabulous therapists, great customer service Cons: none - honestly! more

Best Spa in Utah 4/15/2006

I felt like I was in San Francisco at the best spa I've ever been to anywhere. The service was impecable and the enviroment and design elements were world class and inspiring. It was clear to me that my massage therapist was well trained and had a lot of experience. Refreshing to be in a spa that focuses on total well being and your health. The Kura Door continues to raise the bar and provide a totally unique and not to mention organic experience. I can't wait to go back. PS - For the money it's a deal! Pros: design, therapists, service more
