Worth Stopping 10/26/2005

While visiting Saugerties for a wedding, I decided to check out the local scene. The village is charming & worth a trip if you're traveling up the NYSThruway. The menu at Cafe Tamayo was surprisingly innovative and to our delight, everything tasted as great as it looked! CT offers seasonal dishes, at moderate prices, with a great wine list. Service was a little slow... but the restaurant was also full and besides, this is not NYC... people are a bit more laid-back and I enjoyed taking my time. It contributes to the warm and charming atmosphere. In response to the description that there are great antique shops a few steps away - there are! Lots of fun browsing - some more affordable than others (Greenbriar Cottage is one I remember), so carve out an afternoon for lunch and shopping - you'll be glad you did! Pros: Menu, Atmosphere, Town Cons: "Relaxed" service, (only a con for some) more

Cafe Tamayo 11/24/2004

I like it a lot. I have eaten there at least one hundred times and I look forward to going back. I like seafood and they always have a good selection available. Their creme bruele is excellent. The service generally seems efficient and friendly. To me its the best restaurant in Saugerties. Pros: food, decor, service more

overrated 12/13/2002

The food was good, but not great and definitely overpriced. The atmosphere was pleasant, but dull and the lights are much too bright. The service was also just mediocre...it did not live up to the expections I had given its excellent reviews. more

A River Town Winner 5/19/2002

Saugerties is one of the antique centers of the Hudson Valley. In the middle of main street you find Cafe Tamayo. Despite its Mexican sounding name it serves first rate American cuisine using local product. The atmosphere is delighful. There is a long oak bar that dates to the 19th century, and overhead are leather belts connected to a momtor in the basement that propel the overhead fans. Definitely worth a trip! more
