The Grill

We were told about this place from some friends that frequent the restaurant on a regular basis, so we finally had dinner there a couple of days ago and wow were we pleasantly surprised. The atmosphere was a little dark and candle lit, my only slightly negative drawback. We started our evening at the busy bar and were attended almost instantly. We had a round of special drinks from the blackboard cocktails and not only were the drinks large but also delicious. We were then escorted to a table where the young waiter was also as attentive as he could be. I had the tuna satay appetizer and shared a warm pear salad with my wife. Both our of this world. Our mains were Chilean sea bass topped with lump crabmeat and the seafood paella respectivly. Both were delicious and looked wonderful on the plate,right out of a top chef episode. We will be back very soon and will bring our friends. Pros: Wonderful food,very attentive waitstaff, romantic Cons: Cannot think of any more

We had high hopes for this place based on reviews here and elsewhere, and could not have been more disappointed. The location is unappealing (next to an "adult shop" in a strip mall in an industrial park) but I would not hold that against them. We showed up around 6PM on a Saturday night and the maitre d' asked if we had reservations. We did not, but the place was maybe half full so we did not expect it to be a problem. Even though there were many available tables, he stuck us all the way in the back next to the bathrooms. We sat there for a very long time before we were brought menus, water, or bread. The tap water had a very funny taste - perhaps soap in the glass, but it tasted like banana peels or something similar. It was nasty. We ordered shrimp cocktail and some of the shrimp were VERY poorly de-veined. It was kind of gross, I've never seen that before in a place like this. The service was extraordinarily bad and by this point I was already itching to just get out of there. I ordered the pepper steak special and was hoping that this would at least be a decent meal. WRONG. It was the nastiest piece of beef I've ever been served. It was undercooked and full of tendons and other unidentifiable disgusting stringy things. The lighting is so dark in this place that I couldn't even really tell how poor it was until I had tried to force down half of it. Had I not been dying to get out of there, I would have sent it back. Oh, and the food is EXPENSIVE. I don't have a single good thing to say about this place and I will never ever go back there. Not in a million years. I'd rather eat at the Blimpie a few doors down. I have to assume that the other glowing reviews on this site are fraudulent. Nobody would cross the street for this place, much less drive an hour. Stay far far away! The first time I walked into the Grill Room, I thought to myself, "did I just pay a toll to get here" and it only got better from there. The service, the presentation is flawless. The owner makes you feel like your the only one there. I eat there for all my special occasions, I strongly recommend it. Keep up the good work. At first glance, the Grill Room looks like it belongs in Manhattan, but without it, Long Islanders would have no place decent to eat! The food is delicious, the decor is flawless and the staff could not be more welcoming. It is a delight each time I eat there, which is very often!!!! more
