FlipSide 8/28/2010

The FlipSide has changed owners. Since then I have been there several times. The food is awesome, the music couldn't be better and the wait staff was great. I will continue to go back. We had too much fun not to return. It's the greatest venue in Clayton. more

A must to avoid 8/17/2008

Definitely not the place to go if you want good service. I have been in the Flipside on a number of occasions in which I waited for quite some time for a server to come to my table. I ended up going to the bar to ask for a drink and everytime I tried to catch the owner's eye, she avoided eye contact with me. I finally walked out without being served. The food seems on again, off again. The last meal my fiancee and I ordered there came out undone and with items missing. When I brought this to the owner's attention, I was yelled at and told that it was supposed to be like that. By the way, a friend of mine had just ordered the same dish and it was fully cooked and complete. I am not saying that the food is universally bad. I'm just saying that when it comes to customer service and courtesy, this is about the worst it can get. Am I a snob? Maybe I just like to be treated the way I treat my own customers....... very well. Pros: good music Cons: horrible service more

Great Food! Wonderful atmosphere! 12/4/2006

Not really sure what these other two whinners were talking about, other than I do see every now and again some ""Entitlement"" prone people there that think the world revolves around them. And I can see why some of the staff can get frustrated with trying to please them. But, hey, every town, every place has it's self-centered jerks. Nonetheless, this place is fabulous! The food can not be beat! Prices are very reasonable and they offer nightly dinner features by the Chef. The drinks are not watered down and a great selection of micro brews, limited yes, but still good. Their live music is generally original and not B.S. cover bands!\r I guess, if you're a ""club"" snob, then this is not a place for you. If you enjoy a relaxed atmosphere, with a great menu, and want to meet some geninue people, The FlipSide is worth checking out. Pros: Great Food, beer and mixed drinks. Great various of music genres. NON-SMOKING Cons: Like anything and anywhere, take it all with a grain of salt more

Regulars can't get service either 8/18/2006

Don't take it personally. Regulars can't get waited on either. So we all quit going for awhile but now we are giving The Flipside another chance. Friendlier, but still can't get a beer, a menu, or a fork. Good Times Cafe has awesome food and a promising new wine bar...but we like our""Cheers"" place where we know we can always go and find a friend to talk to. Pros: The deck Cons: The service. Don't keep regular hours. more

Why not? No where else to go.... 4/20/2006

This place does well because it has no competition in Clayton. I do frequent the place, but I do agree with the other reviewers- -there is absolutely no management going on. They do not have a hostess, nor do they assign sections to their waitstaff. Therefore, everyone just wanders around and waits on the people they feel like waiting on. The female owner and the waitress with the dark hair have snotty attitudes, and get annoyed when you ask them for something. I don't get offended because they do treat everyone the same way- -it's just the way they are. Other than that, it is a cool place to hang out, has good bands, but is not too loud. The food is decent, and it's a great place to hang out on a low key night. Even though I do get annoyed, I bite my tongue and continue to go because my other options in Clayton are smoke filled country bars. If another cool bar would open that actually had good service and food, this place wouldn't do as well. Maybe the owners should consider changing their attitudes, and remember that the customers are who helps them pay the mortgage. Pros: good music, non smoking, not loud Cons: bad service, non appreciative owners, snotty attitudes more

The bar other bars want to be when they grow up 1/27/2006

Not another smokey hole. Music ranges from Hank Williams Sr tributes to Folk to blistering Reggae. Food is ecelectic too: fried pickles and portabello mushroom fries on the menu. Ingredients are FIRST RATE! Some typical pub fare (buffalo wings) alongside of specials that push the envelope (the catfish quesedilla is awesome). Warm and friendly, lotsa regulars. Kinda like Cheers with a very cool IPOD. If you love different kinds of food, and different types of music, you'll love it here. Get on their mailing list to pick what's right for you. more
