Filling and Delicious 5/19/2006

Whenever I go to the Brooklyn Grinder I can't help myself, I have to order the Cajun Turkey. Their sandwiches, in the mid price range ($6-$7), always feed me for two meals, and probably provide one large, delicious meal for a big eater. The owner is very friendly. They advertize on their wall that they are not "fast food" and so patrons should be patient, but I have never waited more than five minutes. If you are really worried about time, you can call ahead and have your sandwich waiting for you. more

Brooklyn Grinder can grind my hunger anyday. What 4/27/2006

Here ye, here ye: The Brooklyn Grinder makes a mean sandwich. Mean in the sense of being both tasty and a tiny bit aggressive. I am unable to order anything besides the turkey, bacon and swiss melt. The way this delicious thing is toasted creates an assertively hard core toasted sandwich that tears up the roof of my mouth… the 'good pain' kind of way. Mmm…pain. This lovely sandwich shop moved to The Ave about a year ago (yet remains the ‘Brooklyn’ grinder) and is usually just the right amount of crowded; easy enough to get a sandwich at peak hours but not so empty that you’re uncomfortable. The staff is super nice and always double checks before you leave to assure you had a good meal…which so far, has always been the case. Traditional sandwich side options include potato or pasta salad (yum!), or chips. Deliciousness plus a small but convenient parking lot makes it entirely worth a trip to the university district for sandwich satiation. more

Excellent handcrafted sandwiches on the Ave 4/21/2006

When it comes to deli sandwiches, there's a quantum gap between good and great. If you start at the bottom (days-old vending machine sanwiches in the triangular packages) you can travel to the lower middle (Subway), on through the upper-middle (Quiznos), and still be miles away from a truly excellent sandwich. While it doesn't quite cross over into the (appropriately rare) 5-star territory, I'm happy to report that Brooklyn Grinder puts a comfortable distance between itself and the best of the offerings introduced above. Quality ingredients, a great range of hot and cold combinations on the menu, handcrafted care and suprisingly warm personal service add up to a top-notch experience. Like Josh H., my personal pick is the Turkey, Bacon & Swiss, but the Rueben, Rachel, and Roast Beef and Cheddar Melt offer tough competition, and that's just in the hot category. If you live or work near the Ave and value a quality sandwich, Brooklyn Grinder should be on your lunch-break shortlist. Just give 'em a try, you'll see. more

Turkey + Bacon + Swiss = A great sandwich 4/4/2006

The Brooklyn Grinder makes a good sandwich. Obviously I had the TBS, an old standard. The turkey was sliced nice and thin and the Bacon was crisp, but could have been a bit thicker. The sandwich was served on a hard roll which was a little small for my taste, but the flavor and texture of it were great. It came with a choice of chips, pasta salad and a third option that didn't sound good enough for me to remember. I went with the chips. Tims cascade plains. After seeing the pasta salad I wish I would have chosen it. Serves me right for making the safe choice. Oh well, the sandwich was very good, pasta salad or not, and over all the experience was very good. I'll be back. Oh yeah, they have strawberry Fanta. Big up! more

A good little sandwich shop 3/30/2006

I tried the Brooklyn Grinder for the first time today. It's a casual little sandwich shop in the U-District. They have a nice selection of hot and cold sandwiches at reasonable prices. I tried the Turkey Cajun. My only complaint was that it was a tad on the small side. It's almost a U-District version of the Other Coast Cafe ( http://www.judysbook.com/cities/seattle/Bakeries/28612/p1/The_Other_Coast_Cafe.htm ). more

Best potato salad outside of your last family reunion 3/10/2006

Brooklyn Grinder, now confusedly located on the Ave, is a delicious, wonderful, superfriendly, and overall teriffic lunch stop. They have a great selection of sandwiches, and they all come with a choice of potato salad or... well, something else-- choose the potato salad! It's delicious and not too mayonaisey. The staff here is really nice; every time I've been they've checked in to make sure everything is okay and tastes good. Really feels like a neighborhood shop-- highly recommended. more

Tasty Sandwiches! 11/30/2005

Great sandwich shop on Brooklyn! Nice place to meet friends for lunch and hang out. They have hot and cold sandwiches and I hear the fries are good too. I had the Turkey Bacon & Swiss Melt and it was great! I also had some of their potato salad and it took my breathe away - it comes in a very close second to my mom's potato salad, and I haven’t come across too many potato salads that can touch my mom's. The people who work there were great too, very friendly people. They stopped by our table when we were done to make sure everything tasted ok - I was impressed with that and will definitely be back! more
