Best

They have a great Jam Band that plays tuesdays late--around 10:45 pm. Every time I've been there, it's been packed with talent, on stage and off. Definitely the best Westside hang...

Worst

The guy/girl ratio is like 20 to 1. If you're a chick looking to be hit on all night, this is the place.

Great Jazz on Tuesday nights 10/5/2009

Great jazz at 11pm on Tuesdays... not your normal old person Jazz! Pros: great music Cons: crowded more

cool atmosphere 11/21/2006

we checked this place out after dinner on a sat. night. the crowd was great and an enjoyable atmosphere. get there early to snag a spot to sit. more

Cold 11/17/2006

The Brig lives up to its name in that when a group of us came here for drinks, it was cold and drafty. We almost didn't want to order drinks because we were all freezing. The drinks were decent and not too pricey, but even when it's packed, I just don't like the metal+concrete vibe of the place. When I worked down the street, it was more convinient just to stop by briefly, but I wouldn't make it a regular destination these days. Pros: parking lot Cons: cold atmosphere more

Good place to go on a random weeknight and for MOJITOS! 8/27/2006

The Brig is home to the best mojitos I've ever tasted in my life. The atmosphere is mellow and low-key on weeknights, a good place to go for a drink and some conversation. The interior is also decorated very well, a little retro mixed with a little lost in translation, and although it's a relatively small bar, there's also a pool table and dj. Be careful not to miss the sign though since there's no name outside, there's only a picture of a boxer. I always wondered what the hell the boxer stands for, but then I looked at the business card: ""Come in for a few rounds."" Clever. more

I want to live in Venice now. 7/15/2006

The mix of people reflects exactly what I like about L.A. Refreshingly unpretentious crowd that is a good blend of local and international. After last night, I wish I lived in Venice. Loved the layout, didn't love the angry bartender (Casey) who was so rude it was almost funny. Bartender aside, this bar is perfect and I highly recommend it! Pros: The mix of people Cons: angry bartender more

Great low key lounge 4/14/2006

This place should be my local bar, since it's 2 blocks away. During the week and on early weekend eves, this place is fantastic. A dark but very comfortable. Nice decor and the music is always on point. Weekend nites it gets packed and then thins out - seems people either retire or barhop. I'd say late nite weekend is prob the best, the music suits the hour extremely well. Smart crowd - comfortable and easy. I had an old friend in from DC and we went out to dinner at Mao's one nite, had some tacate's and then rode our bikes over to this place. Sat down in the corner and ordered a couple Ketel/Tonics: $18 - I was a little put off...til I tasted---as one reviewer has said...they have a great pour here. I will pay if the drink is honest...it is at the Brig. Good time had. Pros: Pour, Ambience, Music Cons: Can be crowded more

Kinda like Hollywood, but without the cokeheads! 2/9/2006

Stopped by this place a few weeks ago and was pleasantly surprised. LOVED the decor, just enough seating, and they were playing some great music (think: lounge meets house with a spoonful of funk). They have a pool table there as well. The crowd was great! People seemed nice, laid back, and there was very little of that ""attitude"" you find in the Hollywood crowds. Drinks were strong & bartenders were nice. I had a great time and would rec. this place for a chill night out with your friends. Pros: Funky decor, Good drinks+music, Great crowd Cons: Hollywood-esk bouncer more

Cool place 9/9/2005

The Brig has a pretty laid-back vibe, with a very diverse crowd. The drinks are reasonably priced, and there's no cover charge. Plus, I found free parking very easily on a Saturday night, directly across from the place. By 11PM the place got really packed, so it's good to get there a little earlier to find some breathing room. Pros: Diverse crowd, Good music, Friendly Staff more

Always cool 2/11/2005

This is my favorite place in Venice. Diverse crowd, always busy, great atmosphere. Perfect place to meet up with some friends and chill. Great restaurants around too - so drop by after dinner. more

too cool for school 3/9/2004

I used to like the brig, even post remodeling but the crowd there lately has just been kinda cheesy. the dudes in tight shirts crowd is moving in, and it's near impossible to order one of the overpriced drinks on a crowded weekend night. cool looking space, but the crowd is too Sunset strip. Seems out of place for Venice. Can;t complain about the ladies, but it's not worth the hassle to meet a golddigger - I think I'd enjoy it more on a chill night. Pros: decor, lots of single women Cons: , lame bouncers more

Gem in Venice 10/26/2003

It has the Hollywood feel, but the diverse crowd makes it a whole lot better. Cosmos were good and strong, lots of eye candy, and good music. All in all... I was very happy to have found this place. more

Hollywood goes to Venice 9/29/2003

Venice has gone Hollywood! Trendy, chic, hip, streamlined, etc..this place is all that without the Hollywood attitude. There is a strong presence of the local eclectic bohemian Venice types as well as the 9 to 5er. The crowd mixes very well in the retro style bar/lounge. They have live funky modern jazz music and a jukebox. There is a pool table in the back by the co-ed bathrooms. Drinks are average priced for LA standards & the bartenders are pretty prompt in service. This is a great venue to have an event such as a b-day party or a networking event on an off night. The venue is laidout in a way that even if this place is packed the crowd flows well through the room. If the crowd is large enough then make sure to call in advance to so they are staffed properly. Pros: crowd, design, No attitude more

The Place to Be 6/9/2003

The Brig is the place to be. This place had it going on. Very friendly atmosphere which surprised me, at every turn people would smile and were polite as could be. Not typical of a place so hollywood- esque. Ambiance is great, setup is nice. Plenty of room to mingle. Lots of beautiful babies running around. Line wasn't long at all, drinks were affordable. If you want to be where the action is and love looking and talking to all the beautiful bunnies, this is the place to be. Pros: ambiance, scenery, not too expensive more

Trendy Yet Tight 1/19/2003

Six of us went to The Brig on a Sat. night 'bout 11:00. Got right in which was cool. I stayed away from the cocktails...stuck to $5 Amstels. I was one of the more casual dressed males there, but I did not feel ""out-of-place"" I was joking with a buddy that even the ugly girls were hot! I wanna try this joint out on a week night next time. Props all the way around here! Pros: Beautiful Peeps Cons: Too "Hollywood" ??? more

nice but... 12/9/2002

...make sure you know what the rules of the pool table are the night you're there. I kicked some guy and his girlfriend's butts at pool and they got all hungup about the fact that I didn't have a partner. Whatever. I beat you both, so gettaoutamyface! As for the Brig itself, it IS a cool bar. Bar tenders are cool and none of that ""dump the drink for another one with less alcohol if you don't tip me"" BS here. Drinks are also reasonably priced considering there's no door charge to get in. But here's my advice: hit it on a week night when it's not so crowded. I've been going here for two years, and that's when it's most relaxing. Otherwise, you may as well head up to Hollywood for the kind of crowd you'll get here on the weekends. Pros: fair price on drinks, good crowd, good ambiance Cons: sore sports on pool more

Drinks are strong but $$$$ 10/18/2002

The brig is pretty nice except for the super expensive little drinks. Pros: Vibey, Pool Table Cons: Expensive, Cold people more
