one of the best local restaurants 2/6/2011

This is my favorite restaurant. I look forward to eating here every time I'm in town. I have waited over an hour and a half for an order before, and it was still worth it. Cash only, but if you gotta use a credit card, you probably shouldn't be going out to eat anyway. Not the place to go on your lunch break, but I'd say its THE place to go on your day off. Good food, good people. I'd eat there every day if I could. more

Authentic and Excellent 3/10/2009

Yes, you may have a wait but you will be served the freshest ingredients put together with the most care by a real Thai chef. If you want fast food there are other acceptable Thai restaraunts, one very nearby, but this is the best. The owners are gone to Thailand from Thanksgiving into February every year and we look forward to their return. So if you are not in a hurry, don't care about with-go and can pay in cash, this is the place for you more

Terrible experience! 8/10/2007

After reading the positive reviews posted here, we were really looking forward to enjoying this place, but had no such luck. They don't accept credit cards, something potential diners should be aware of. ""Be prepared to wait."" is an understatement; we waited a full hour in the cramped and stifling ""dining room"" for our take-out order and when it arrived, one of the meals was missing. Oops! So sorry. We forgot. After getting a peek at the food, we declined to wait any further. The spring rolls ($9 for half a dozen) were charred and greasy, in fact everything was greasy except the crispy fish, which I must confess, was quite tasty. The chicken satay glistened with huge chunks of fat and was swimming in a viscous peanut sauce that had the consistency of congealed gravy. The pad thai was unlike any I've ever tasted, made with wide oily noodles and nary a vegetable to be found. Perhaps our experience was atypical, but we will never return nor give this place a recommendation to anyone whose friendship we value. I am not someone with an ax to grind; this is my 14th Citysearch review and my very first negative one. I must concur with the previous poster (sherly) who suspects the positive review (shill) posted by ""lannacore"" was indeed written by the owner's daughter, a gymnast whose posters are prominently displayed within the restaurant. I can't imagine why else someone would take to personally insulting someone for sharing their opinion. Pros: Cute, kitschy mom and pop place. Cons: Substandard food, unacceptable wait, indifferent service, cramped dining space, expensive! more

Authentic Mom and Pops Thai food is a delight! 8/1/2007

In response to ""sherly""... \r If you aren't aware, Thai Delight has been in business for over 17 years now and was established as the first Mom and Pop's Thai restaurant to open in Longwood, FL. Although it's powered by just the married Thai couple, it has been able to maintain it's steady client base since the service & hospitality is reminiscent of Seinfeld/NY Style ""like it or leave it"" attitude and most importantly, the food is STELLAR. I know customers and patrons that swear by their food and have been coming back since the restaurant first opened... AND T.D. has also received excellent reviews from the Orlando Sentinel 'chow hound' author Scott Joseph as well as other local papers and online reviewers (Zagat). The food is fresh and specially prepared one entree at a time. Most of the herbs and ingredients that are used in each dish are hand-picked and grown by the owners. They take much pride in all the details which is why the food may take longer to prepare (and the fact that there is only 1 cook!) So I'm not sure why ""sherly"" who posted on 7/23 had such a bad experience. She obviously didn't do her homework or there was a miscommunication in her order perhaps? Or maybe she didn't have the patience to wait 15 min for good food? Also, most of the items on the menu are $7.99 and up and if that is considered ""over priced"" as she testifies then obviously she hasn't been out to eat in a while or gas up her car for that matter. If you want $5 meals served up fast, then I'd suggest McDonalds on 434. -Lanna\r \r Now in response to ""review 1000"" it is obvious that this person is the friend of ""sherly."" A 1-hour wait is an exaggeration and the restaurant has one of the cleaniest kitchens I've ever seen. If it didn't, it would be out of business b/c this restaurant receives regularly scheduled health inspections and would not allow an ""open dumpster"" in the dining area, so I'm not sure what he/she is referring to? Besides, T.D. isn't meant to be 5-star dining.... Pros: Excellent authentic Thai food, great hospitality Cons: If you don't like waiting more than 10 minutes, than this is not the place for you. And if you don't believe in spending over $5 on a meal, then this is not the place for you! more

Best Thai Food On The Planet 8/1/2007

I've been eating here for 12 years, 3 times a week! I'm a gourmet food enthusiast and I've eaten at world class restaurantsin 9 countries . This is hands down my favorite restaurant for food. Humble atmosphere, but it's the quintessential ""insider's find"". Every dish is prepared fresh with home grown ingredients. No heat lamps or buffets. Love it, love it, love it. Try the beef basil with a fried egg on top, or the green curry New Zealand mussels. Crispy fish is one I can't get enough of too. Oh yeah, try the ""Shrimp and pumpkin"". You won't be dissapointed.\r \r Dan Dowling\r Pros: Delicious, succulent fresh Thai food fit for a king Cons: They only take cash, and it's not a place to go if you're in a hurry. Every meal is made to order. Well worth it. more

Very poor customer service, rude behaviour 7/23/2007

I went with a friend of mine for lunch. I was served the wrong order. When I tried telling her, the lady owner argues saying I was lying about the order. She was very rude and impolite in her behavior. Forget good customer service, she lacked basic courtesy. On telling her that she served the wrong food, she asks us what we were going to do any way. When we told her we were not going to eat here again and would advice our friends to do the same too, she says ""don't come back again, do whatever you want and I don't care. ""The place was very unclean and the food relatively expensive. The customer service was the worst I have ever seen. I would never recommend this restaurant to anyone Cons: very unclean, poor customer service, expensive food more

Very Bad Service, Impolite Owners, Long wait, Expensive, Bad Hygiene 7/23/2007

Thai Delight proprietors are very rude and impolite. They take over one hour to serve just one meal. Especially the lady is very arrogant towards customers. When we told her she gave us the wrong order, she not only refused to correct the order but said she would pull up the phone records to check! Any other restaurant would have corrected the order! To top it all, she confuses me with some other customer she has seen in the restaurant and I had to point out to her that she was confusing me with somebody else. I also detected a a hint of racism. I would definitely not advise going there. The food is nothing great either and it is extremely expensive.\r \r In response to ""lannacore"": Judging by ur profile name ""lanna"", It seems like you are the daughter of the proprietors and hence may be unethical for you to write reviews about your own family's restaurant much less talk about bills! I have been there a couple of times now and it has been over a one hour wait each time. You can't also dispute the open dumpster that is by one of the tables. Also in response to your statements ""She obviously didn't do her homework or there was a miscommunication in her order perhaps? Or maybe she didn't have the patience to wait 15 min for good food?"" Please understand that different people have different experiences, hence for you to judge ""miscommunication"" on our part or our ""patience"" is not right. Btw, the lady-owner said she will pull up the phone records to check the miscommunication. Since SHE came out with this suggestion, we told her definitely, we would like to do that to clear it up. It was Her suggestion, and which food proprietor ever talks to a customer like this? Lannacore, you may have a great experience, but please don't make judgment calls on others' experience. You can write your review but it is not ethical to question ours since you did not share our experience. In response to the price, a simple red curry for $11.95 at lunch time for a McDonald's kind of place?! Pros: Absolutely none at all! Cons: VERY bad service, extremely long wait, poor customer service, expensive more

Most Authentic Thai Food in Orlando Metro Area 9/23/2006

This small little Thai Restaurant what it lacks in size more then makes up for in Atmosphere and Great Authentic Thai Food. I've been to a bunch of Thai Restaurants in the Metro Orlando, FL area, let alone other states, and this by far is my favorite. The food preparation and presentation is excellent, and the taste is the best.\r I also love that this restaurant stays in business by word of mouth and the quality of their work.\r This is such a cool little restaurant to stop at for lunch. I always feel that this is my own little secret restaurant that I get a joy out of exposing others to their great food.\r I hope you get a chance to visit as well.\r Pros: Taste, Atmosphere, Presentation Cons: Limited Parking, Not for a Quick Lunch more

Delight? More like Bliss! 11/20/2002

Not even the egregious pictures of George Bush plastered around this restaurant can keep me from returning again and again. TD serves the best Thai food I have tasted in North America. The flavors are a revelation. What the restaurant lacks in ambience is more than made up for by the quality of the meals. Do your taste buds a favor and give this place a go. You may have to wait a while for your meal but you won't be disappointed. Pros: superlative food, fresh ingredients Cons: slow service, poor ambience, George Bush pictures more
