Tellers Restaurant: An American Chophouse

If you want to spend top dollar for a mediocre steak, that is cooked incorrectly, and nowhere near the quality of other steak houses, this is for you. Otherwise just skip it. Both our dinners came out wrong, the service was poor, and they overcharged us for two desserts we did not order, want, or eat. Our waiter did not even crack pepper for us, he casually asked when passing when he saw my look when I used table pepper. My steak was RAW not the medium I ordered, and I could not detect any truffle in the truffle butter sauce. Our veg selection was burned. I left a bouquet of flowers at the table, within 30 seconds of me walking away, they had already thrown out my husband's card (thanks for ruining that special anniversary momento) and had the flowers upfront by the hostess. Would never recommend to a friend or client. The quality of this restaurant has plunged dramatically. You cannot bill yourself as a high end steakhouse and not even know how to cook a steak to the desired doness. more

I visited Tellers with a large group, and was impressed immediately upon arriving. The restaurant itself was very well laid-out and attractive. The waiter was the perfect blend of aloof snootiness and knowledgable assistance one expects from such an establishment. I had the Buffalo Mozzarella with beefsteak tomatoes, which were heavenly with a drizzle of aged balsamic vinegar. The porterhouse was perfectly cooked, juicy flavorful and delicious. I particularly enjoyed the wasabi mashed potatoes. This is a great place for steak, wonderful for a special occasion or any time you want to burn a little extra dough. Went on 10/27/04 for anniversary, went armed with a $100 gift certificate..had 2 drinks, 2 appetizers...craab cakes were delicious could be bigger....calimari was nice had better, nice portion. i had a rib eye au poivre which was perfect....soft delicious outstanding one of the best steaks i have ever had..wife had 2 pd stuffed lobster...fresh taste nicely done. no room for dessert...service was great and the ambiance delicate total bill came to $175 with tip included...worth going once. Located in a former Islip Bank where the vault now serves as the wine cellar. Outstanding food and service with the emphasis on red meat. Perfectly done steaks accompanied by garden fresh salads, superb steakhouse condiments, and the best bread basket on Long Island. No steakhouse can top Brooklyn's Peter Lugers but this is a close second and without the hassle of Williamsburg parking. Pros: Food, Ambience, Service Cons: A tad pricey more
