Editorial review from Citysearch 11/13/2012

Many people talk about how amazing Ted Drewes is, and that it's the best custard in the world. Don't get me wrong, Ted Drewes is VERY good, but it's more about the way it's a St. Louis landmark, and the way they put together specials such as the Christy. (My personal fav) Then again anyone can put vanilla ice cream on top of a warm brownie and drizzle it with warm caramel and chocolate...drooool. (I add pecans, 80 cents extra) It is definitely a must-visit if in STL, because it's just a good experience. Prices are reasonable, service is quick, and the employees are very friendly. more

it's ted drewes! 11/28/2010

I can not say anything bad about this place. Deliciousness if you like custards and ice cream. All we tried so far was excellent. The kids working there are friendly. Lines can seem long but you get through pretty fast as there are multiple windows you can order at. more

What can I say that hasn't been said? 8/22/2010

This is my first (and more than likely only) experience with frozen custard and I have to say it was great especially for a hot summer day. The lines...well...what lines? There are so many open windows that you don't have to wait to get cooled down. I really like there is a sign on the side of the building listing what they offer because it was nice to be able to sit in my car for a bit to try to decide what I was going to get before hand. The place is also very clean especially outside. more

Best frozen custard anywhere! 8/24/2009

This is easily the best frozen custard anywhere. It's a St. Louis staple, and is one of the many things you cannot miss if driving through! Pros: variety, taste, price Cons: long lines more

Ted Drewes Frozen Custard is awesome 8/23/2009

Ted Drewes is awesome. We make a point of visiting there several times when we're in town. I've been there in different seasons and there's almost always a line, but it moves quickly. The servings are quite generous. My favorite is the terramizzou. more

This place is crazy popular! 11/25/2008

Have you ever been to Ted Drewes? The first time I went here it was early fall (well after ice cream season) and was shocked to find at least 50 people waiting in line to get frozen custard. It was intense. I wanted to try something new but didnt have time to really think about it since there were people waiting. Maybe go here during a cooler season. This way you'll actually get a chance to look over the flavors. But I give this place high marks. The service is quick and while the environment may be hectic at times, its great to go during the summer and see all the st louis families getting together here. Also, the custard is delicious! way better than ice cream. more

Outstanding 10/30/2008

Ted Drewes rocks! It is one of the best places to go for an after dinner dessert or simply for a mid afternoon snack. The building is older, giving it a sense of the history that has grown up around the business. The concretes are simply to die for. When I lived outside of St. Louis, I would crave Ted Drewes, and I tried to stop there every time I came back into town. more

STL Staple 10/9/2008

I've never been a huge fan of frozen custard, but it's a place to take visitors on a hot summer day. You never know what celebrity you might see there passing through St. Louis. more

My favorite! 8/6/2008

It is not just the custard but the atmosphere, in the summer they have to block off the street it becomes so busy! Don't miss out on this St. Louis tradition. more

Yummm... 7/23/2008

I have to say i dont go there often but i grab the chance all the time, i had some great icecream to top it off, and im a big jonas brothers fan an dthey recently (yesterday july 22 2008) visited ted drewes, so its gotta be good Pros: very good service Cons: lots of teens!! more

Nothing like Ted Drewe's 7/6/2008

There's just nothing like Ted Drewes! Better to spport your local businesses than the big guys I always say. Locally owned and operated, Ted Drewes is the best frozen custard! Lines may be long on hot summer days, but one bite/lick/taste of Ted Drewe's frozen custard and you realize how great it tastes! Pros: It's the best! Cons: Long lines in summer/holidays more

Hype 3/8/2008

I just don't see what all the hype is about. St. Louis Custard Factory is way way way way way better. I'm not from St. Louis and i hear so much about it before I went, then i finally go and it was like i got a shake from Mc. Donalds. Not that special. Not only did I have to wait a long time to get my custard, it wasn't that good. No inside seating and just okay service. It's just hyped up. Pros: I guess you can say you've tried it. Cons: That's not saying too much. more

A Great St. Louis Institution! 11/7/2007

The best frozen custard in the universe is what they do at Ted Drewe's. Though they are famous for their concretes in a cup that hold a spoon when held upside down, I prefer my custard in a cone, dipped with chocolate. You can only get vanilla or chocolate if you want it in a cone, however, but thankfully, those are the best flavors in my opinion. If you don't want a cone then you have literally dozens of flavors to choose from. You can get a myriad of add ins and toppings but there is nothing better than the standard vanilla cone, chocolate dipped. Any visit to St. Louis must include a visit to this great American institution. Pros: Best Frozen Custard more

The BEST Custard! 5/26/2007

Ted Drewes is the best frozen custard. It cannot be compared to ice cream as they are two completely different things! Drewes custard is so creamy and yummy and tastes wonderful just by itself. But you can mix in just about any flavor your little heart desires! Or if you're a traditional, you can have the flavors on top as a sundae. If it's your first time visiting though you must get a concrete and watch as it's handed to you upside down! Don't worry, it won't fall on your shoes, it's so thick! Although I wish there were more of them all over, the quality just wouldn't be the same and it wouldn't be a St. Louis only treasure. Many of the employees work there throughout high school and college. That tells you how well your custard is made, they know what they're doing! You can't get custard this good anywhere else! Pros: delicious, fast, friendly Cons: parking is hard to find in the middle of summer but it's well worth a small walk more

Get chilled at Ted Drewes 12/19/2006

I went to Ted Drewes last week-end with lots of curiosity and without any pre-plan. Being new to St. Louis - I was not aware of this place and all my way thought about concrete and custard :-) more

Eh.. 11/11/2006

I remember going to Ted Drewes a couple times as a kid. You hear a lot of hype in St. Louis about it. I recently went back for the first time in about a decade and it's only so-so. For all the buzz it gets you'd expect something more than average. Maybe it was the flavors my friend and I tried but it's not that great. Don't get me wrong, it's not bad custard, but I've had better. The prices aren't too high as some people say they are. You're going to pay the same or more at Dairy Queen or other ice cream places. Pros: fun when w/ friends, Cons: parking can be a big hassle, can get loud with all the teenagers more

Perfect for on the way to the game! 10/2/2006

Went by on the way to a Cardinals game the last summer of old Busch stadium...when they handed the concretes to my kids upside down...the stop was worth it just to see their eyes. Then they tasted the stuff and whoa, was that good! The last bite was as good as the first...and the flavors were many and varied (and all delicious!). The Cards won that night, so they whole evening was a sucess. MMMMMMMMMMMM! more

Scrumtralescent 8/7/2006

This past weekend I went to St. Louis to visit my grandparents, and over the three day weekend I went to Ted Drewes 5 times. Personally, I would have been okay if the number had been closer to 8, but maybe I shouldn't get greedy. My personal favorite is the Terramizzou. Absolutely phenomenal vanilla custard with chocolate and the tastiest pistachios mixed in. If I had just eaten a 5 course meal, and was bursting at the seams, I could still probably eat a regular Terramizzou if offered. more
