Great food, excellent wine! 8/18/2008

The food was spectacular here! We held a private party for about 10 people, and everyone was blown away by the food and the wine. The wild boar chops were something you need to try if they are available. The ostrich wrapped appetizers were so exotic, and so good. The desserts are a definite must. Definitely a place to go with friends...stay awhile, try out the ""self-serve"" wine bar, and order some food. It will be an experience everyone will enjoy. Great service from a knowledgeable and friendly staff! more

Great wine pairing and selection, tasty food, friendly and knowledgeable owners and waitstaff, great atmosphere 7/31/2008

I've visited Taste Select Wines a few times now...and I have yet to find the restaurant lacking in anything. The experience, from greeting to departure, has kept us going back. The management really has it together. The wine carousels are unique and fun. The chef does an excellent job at creating the most tasty dishes. By the way, the beef carpaccio was delicious. I get it everytime I go...even when I plan to ""try something new""...I still have to get the carpaccio while I'm there. Everything is so fresh and delicious! The wine suggested by the staff complemented the food wonderfully. I recommend this place to everyone who is looking for a truly delightful dining experience! more

Great Wine, Great Food, Great Service. 7/27/2008

I went to Taste with a few of my friends to celebrate. While I like wine, I am by no means an oenophile. The waitress was very helpful in making a selection, not pushing the more expensive wines, as is the case in so many restaurants, but asking which types of wines I liked best, most important characteristics, etc. I now have two new favorites thanks to my trip to Taste. The food was AMAZING. REALLY good. I loved the Ahi tartar as well as the Rabbit. I would recommend this place to anyone who enjoys a glass of good wine and really good food. Pros: Exhaustive wine list, amazing food. Cons: Too pricy to eat there more often. more

Delicious and Delightful Dining Experience 7/26/2008

My wife and I drove from San Antonio to Austin after having Taste recommended to us by another friend. I can tell you that what we found did not disappoint. The managers added a personal touch by coming by and talking with us at our table. Our server was extremely knowledgeable about the wine, and the chef even made an appearance to make sure we were happy with the cuisine. Pros: Food, Wine, Service more

Fresh food, great wine 7/25/2008

You must experience Taste. It's not just a place to eat but an entire dining experience. I would highly suggest trying the chef's sampler or simply asking for whatever he recommends that evening. He's phenomenal. All of the food is fresh and prepared in a manner that brings out the richness of each dish. As for the wine, there is an extensive list to chose from or you can go to the self-serve units to get whatever is ""on tap"". If you're not sure which wine to choose, the waiters are a great resource-- knowing well how to pair a wine not only with the food but also with your taste. Their relaxed but sophisticated demeanor creates a cozy atmosphere great for both a group or a couple. more

Love the wine selection and format, food is good 7/23/2008

Went for a party of 20+ and have to say the service was pretty good considering the crowd. Some were fairly knowledgeable about the wines, but no one there was a true sommelier or close to it. Cons: parking more

Inedible Food 7/1/2008

When my friends and I set out to treat ourselves to good wine and great food on a recent Friday night, we decided on new hot spot Taste. While the atmosphere was nice and the wine tasting fun, the food/service ruined the whole experience. While our hostess was great, our dirty finger-nailed waiter kept making worse and worse recommendations. We started with a cheese plate, which was delicious and creative. We expected our next choise of beef carpaccio to be on that level, but it was literarly inedible. Served on a BBQ chip (which was worse than a Lay's chip) this menu item lacked flavor, salt, and anything worth recommending. When we told our waiter this, instead of apolgizing and offering a replacement dish, he just smirked rudely. We then tried a panini with tomato soup - definantly not what I remember fondly from my childhood as the panini had maybe half a slice of cheese on it and the soup was flavorless once again. We then tried one more time to find something to make the trip to Taste worth it. We ordered the tuna. BIG mistake. It was fishy and flavorless, not to mention the knife skill were quite lacking. The aftertaste stayed with us, and not in a good way. (It literarly made me sick) All and all, the evening was a terrible mistake, that sadly could have been made completely different if our waiter had so much apologized for the food. Every establishment can have an off night, but the fact that there never was so much as an offer to appease us in any way makes Taste a disaster, and one my friends and I will never try again. What a let down! Take your money and patience elsewhere. Pros: Cool wine set up Cons: Service and Food (esp. the tuna and carpaccio!) more

Wonderful Food At Reasonable Prices 4/26/2008

Normally to see a menu like this you would be at a stuffy, high-end restaurant and the bill would refect this. It was such a pleasure to enjoy such a lovely meal, with great hospitality without breaking the bank. Of course, the wine selection is fabulous. Notable reds from Napa and Walla Walla (so your wine snob friends will be impressed), along with many others so all your guests will be happy. The owner, Reagan, is very accommodating and available to his guests. Overall a memorable experience. Pros: Excellent value, delicious menu more

WONDERFUL WINE!!! A MUST TRY FOR EVERYONE!!! 4/6/2008

My husband and I recently moved to Austin and we love to explore all the different places here. We stumbled upon TASTE and go back at least once a week!! If you love wine and you love food you will love everything about TASTE. One of the reasons I really like TASTE is because it is owned by a family so you know not only is the service going to be amazing but they are putting 100% of them into every aspect of the restaurant. And believe me they are!! They have a wide variety of wines and the knowledge to be able to explain each wine to you!! Also they have a great concept of a wide selection for you taste yourself to see which one works best for you. I wish all places had this!! It makes it easy to learn more about different wines that I have never had before without going out and buying a bottle and wasting my money if I don't like it! They also have a different wine list that is lengthy if you just want a glass and there is something there for everyone. The food is always great (we love the beef tartare)!! On the menu they have half sizes portions as well as full size which is great for you to experience a little but of everything without breaking the bank. The patio is really great because you have great views of the lake and the sunsets are something my husband and I enjoy if we just want to go there and relax have a glass of wine while we watch. The atmosphere inside is clean and crisp! I have traveled all over the world and this wine bar really is wonderful!! If you love great wine and amazing food and stellar service I would definitely try TASTE!!! I almost forgot if you drive go to 3forks valet and they will take your car for you and it is an easy walk from there!!! Pros: great location, reasonable prices, wonderful food, the staff is amazing, spectacular wine!! Cons: its your loss if you dont go!! more
