Editorial review from Citysearch 8/31/2012

I think this restaraunt had so much potential! It is something different, something unique. The atmosphere of sitting on the floor, eating with your fingers, it's such an experience. It could be so great! How dissapointing it was and it all has to do with the owner of the establishment. We purchased a groupon, $25 for 2 for a 6 course meal! What an amazing price! The restaurant is a little pricey (which goes hand in hand with the experience) so I thought this was a great deal! Well at the end of the night the owner wouldn't honor what the groupon said. He charged us extra and it ended up being about the same as if we hadn't even had the groupon ($65). There were a lot of couples there that were having the same problem, showing him their groupon and we were all upset. I ordered a glass of wine and noticed there were floating things in it. I assumed it was some bits of the cork. I took and sip and when I looked closer it was FULL of bugs! I told my server and she took the wine back. The owner came back out and served me a sip of wine at the table. Unapologetically he asked if I ""liked this wine better"". He didn't even apologize or acknowledge what had just happened. And there was NO discount. In fact he added a larger tip to our table (that was supposed to only be for parties of 6 or more). I glanced over at another table and she also had bugs in her wine. So this happened to more people than just me. He should not be a business owner and was so concerned and stingy about money it was not an enjoyable experience. There are so many other restaurants in this area that are so much better for a better price. AND I would rather go to a restaurant that serves clean food....I have serious doubts about the cleanliness and freshness of the food that they serve. I wouldn't be suprised if it was someone else's old wine they just saved or left the bottle uncorked. I never leave bad reviews for a place and I try and be positive but I want to warn people, because for the price, it was a terrible experience. I don't think this is a good restaurant to eat at....cool environment but not work $65 for the environment. Please choose somewhere else to eat! more

Great Morrocan Dining Experience 1/21/2011

I'm shocked at the negative reviews. Visiting from Minnesota, my wife and collge age children had a great experience here. Friendly staff, great Middle Eastern decor (clean - unless you're OCD like one of the other reviewers must be), delicious Morrocan food (the lamb brochettes were extremely good), and a very entertaining belly dancer (the Middle Eastern version of ""I Will Survive"" was especially fun). Morrocan food is generally more expensive, since it is a six course dinner. It is a dining experience. If you want a cheaper dining experience, go out for pizza or go to an Ethiopian Restaurant (I'm serious, if you haven't - you must). When in Manitou, hit the Penny Arcade and then enjoy Tajine Alami!!! more

A thoroughly delightful evening- and gluten free! 1/31/2010

There were 11 of us celebrating my birthday, including 4 of us who are gluten-free and 3 of us who are vegetarian. All of us had a delicious meal! The lamb was tender and well spiced, the salmon was moist and flaky, the hummus was the best we've had-- and we've had many varieties over the years! The wait-staff were friendly and focused; we were never rushed even though we dined for over 3 hours . The belly dancer was talented, friendly, and offered a mini class to all who wanted to try the moves. Our 3rd time & we'll return again! Pros: Gluten free and vegetarian choices; Hummus yum! more

Just Awful 10/20/2009

Just a totally awful experience! I took my wife and a group of 5 others to this place for my wifes birthday. Walking in we expected the best from this place due to the prices they charge etc...We paid $32 for the ""6 course meal"" each plus parties of 5 or more pay 18% gratuity on there check. Being that there was 7 of us we were treated as a tip that was already made from the very beggining. It took them quite a while to come over at all and even talk to us. When they finally came to ask us for our drink order the waiter stared at 1 end of the group and took my freind and his wives drink order. My wife was looking at the wine list and the waiter actually left our table after taking 2 drink orders obviously annoyed that he had to wait for my wife to choose a wine. Well after 15 MINUTES of him not coming back we had to get up and track him down so he could come over and get the rest of our drinks. About another 5 minutes passed and he finally came over to the tune of ""what you want?"" We all ordered our drinks and tried our best to blow it off. Cons: Dirty,Rude,Awful Food,Way over priced more

The worst service I ever had!!!!!! 9/20/2009

I have had Morrocan food many times in my life and in many places. I never before was treated this way or experience such a dirty atmosphere. When you come in the decorations look cheap and tacky, not a place decorated by a profesional. The owner, which is the host, waiter, and maintanance man makes everybody takes their shoes off. I know that this is a tradition in some cultures, but I hated to put my bare feet in this disgusting rugs that look that were never clean. I can imagine the amoung of bacteria in the floor. Then I use the bathroom which I thought was dirty and smell really bad. Cons: Dirty, bad service more

Authenticity and Atmosphere 2/3/2008

I've been to Morocco, and not only does this restaurant serve authentic Moroccan food, it has decor and seating to match. Run by a Moroccan family, Tajine Alami offers belly dancing entertainment on Friday and Saturday nights. This is a perfect place for a date, a special occasion, or learning about another culture. Pros: Ample parking. more
