Last night we ate at Swingos on the Lake for the first and last time. We had Sea Bass and Steak Romano, which were both really bad. The fish entree, ($38) was no more than 4 oz and tasted fishy and not fresh. Between my wife and I, we couldn't finish it because of taste. To be fair, we had never had Sea Bass before, so may be that's just how this dish tastes. But, for $38, we were both looking for something that we couldn?t get enough of. Now as for the steak, we've both had filet mignon before and I am very certain that this serving was the worst I?ve ever had. Two perfectly good pieces of meat (also $38) were way over cooked and were something we couldn't finish. When the waitress took out plates, I let her know that we both thought our meals were not very good. I showed her we couldn't finish the small portion of fish given to us and that steak had not on shade of pink (i asked for medium). I told her we knew it wasn't her fault but to pass it along. She showed up next at our table with a complimentary desert. Nice gestrure, right? Desert consisted of 2 half moons (about the size of 1/2 of a ping pong ball). One was of a chocolate icing and the other was whipped cream. We joked about the cake being missing as we paid our $130+ (before tax and tip) bill. Oh, how did it get all the way up to $130? I should mention the wine situation. We like to have a bottle of wine when we splurge on "fine dining" so I asked for the list. We were given the 3 inch thick binder with all of the fine wines available. Very impressive; 1000+ different selections most going for $200-$1000 / bottle. Now, I?m sure they're all very good wines and that a connoisseur with a trust fund and no concept of the price of gas would have been spoiled. For us, though, we were disappointed to find a selection of only 1 or 2 bottles that were less than $100 in the binder. Had the food and the wine been delicious, it would have been worth every penny, but they weren?t. Very uneventfull. Very dissappointing. Do not recommend this restraunt. Save your money and head to Don's Lighthouse or Pomeroy. Even go to Westlake and go to Morton's. Swingo's doesn't even compare to those restraunts. Oh how they ignored me and my husband. Service was just terrible. Music was nice if I have to say one nice thing. This place seems like hi t or miss, but if you haven't been there, you should try it once. It's very pricey, but sometimes the food and service and excellent. Other times, it's not so great. Hidden behind the Carlyle condominiums at 12900 Lake, some tables have a great view of the lake and downtown. Lots of windows If you miss the 1970s, just take a stroll back near the restrooms. They have pictures of Sinatra and many other famous people who have been to Swingos, especially when they were downtown back in their heyday. During the week it's usually quiet. Busiest time is Sunday brunch. Sometimes they get busy with wedding rehearsal dinners. Makes you feel kind of sad how they usually aren't busy--I guess they were really something back in the day Pros: often times you have large areas to yourself Cons: kind of depressing at times, and needs to be redecorated. We've been to Swingo's three times. The first time was a weekend, and all was good - service, food, etc. The last two times were during the week and all was not good. The second time, the food was average, at best, although the prices (and the service) were much pricier (over $100 for an appetizer, two entrees, a drink, and a dessert). The third time, the food was a bit below average (calamari was great, but the salad was weak and the chicken and scrod were ... okay, but not so great). But this time, the service was a let down. Although it wasn't our waitresses fault (we think) they messed up our original order and asked us if we wanted something else. We did, but had to wait an additional 30 minutes for our food. All told, an hour and a half for average food and lousy service and high prices (one appetizer and two entrees - the two cheapest, by the way - equaled $80). Not that we asked, but we thought it would be nice to get a "comp" for waiting so long - no dice. In the end, Swingo's is a charming place, but the food is overrated and severely - SEVERELY -over priced. Won't be spending our money there again in the ... well, ever. I was tired of being disappointed in the food and service in the new trendy restaurants in Downtown, and went to Swingos On The Lake for a special event. The evening was perfect. From the service to the food and the entertainment. From now on, Swingos will again be our place for a special dinner. We have gone to Swingos since they were at the Keg and Quarter and can't imagine why we stopped. Bring back the Veal Oscar, PLEASE. Pros: Service, Food, Parking Cons: Veal Oscar more

The food and service is reasonable, but it does not justfy the cost. There are a number of fine restraunts in the vicinity with as good or better service and food, but they are 25% cheaper. Cons: Too pricey more
