I'm not surprised by the mixed reviews. One day I took a friend to a very authentic Mexican restaurant. I was delighted. She turned to me and said, ""Taco Bell is WAY better."" An...

I was excited when I found ""authentic Chicago pizza"" in the valley. The atmosphere was good and the service was decent. But if you have ever been to Lou's or Gino's in Chicago y...

Has been...not now 8/11/2008

So we decided to give this place a try even after reading the reviews here after seeing ""Pizza Paradise"" on the TravelChannel. I also did a little ""googling"" and found the famous Pepe's in Chicago but for Frank, no mention of Jim.\r \r They won ""Best of"" in 2006. That was then and definitely not now.\r \r I ordered a ""Don"" for pick up, stuffed style. Of course it wasn't ready when they said it would be. After 10 minute I saw the guy pull the pie out. Then he started to scrape at it. Apparently it got a little burnt I thought but that's ok, I like ""crispies."" I got it home and it was more than crispy, it was burnt on the top and bottom! (I should have checked at the restaurant) \r \r I can't believe they would still sell such poor food. Might as well dropped it on the floor and put it back.\r \r PRO: I will have to say, the parts of the crust that weren't burnt were really good, kinda like a pie crust where there's thin layers of flakiness. The toppings/filing was average.\r \r Oh yeah, the pricing online doesn't match in store-it's higher in store. Pros: Great flaky crust Cons: Poor quality and customer service. Burnt pizza! more

""Best"" Pizza? 7/30/2008

They claim to have been voted Utahs best pizza but there is no mention who award them this (is there such an award?). I emailed them and asked but they never responded. Seems to be made up. Only place I know of that won best pizza is The Pie. more

SoSo 6/11/2008

The first time we went there with our friends...we got our meal, however, our friends meal was never delievered to the table. We asked about their order several times before they finally got it and then it was wrong. We thought that we would give them another chance, since everyone has an off day every now and again, but this time we did delievery. I think that the pizza is pretty good (get the DON), however, the service could be better and delievery times run close to an hour (or more). Is it worth the wait...not if you want your meal fast or right for that matter. Pros: ???? Cons: Slow service more

Not even good when it's FREE! 5/2/2008

I'm origionally from PA but I have family in Chicago. I tried this pizza on NUMEROUS occasions since my previous company used them a couple of times for meetings. They are the WORST, squishiest, bland pizza I have ever eaten. I will never pay money to eat there. I don't see any flavor of Chicago in this place except for borrowing the name.\r Pros: Cons: Bad food, does a disservice to Chicago pizza more

Considering eating here? Don't 4/11/2008

I have no opinion on whether or not this pizza is authentic Chicago style. If it is, well, I won't be eating pizza in the Windy City. My wife and I left with two thirds of our pizza-flavored grease casserole uneaten -- just couldn't manage to swallow the stuff without the need to suppress a gag reflex.\r \r And the service..., it was actually worse than nonexistent. The staff seemed too busy flirting and partying with each other to care about their customers or their jobs. I noticed several annoyed looks from the staff when customers entered the building. If I were the owner, I would have fired the entire so-called staff on the spot. How this place stays in business, I don't know.\r \r Was the pizza worse than the service? Hard to say. At the very least, I can say that the two matched. However, I do feel bad giving this place a one-star rating; it deserves much worse. Pros: None come to mind Cons: Awful pizza with rude, uncaring service more

THIS IS THE PLACE! 3/20/2008

Though this joint is far far south south south, I will drive there everytime to have a good pizza. I was born in Chicago, had pizza from west, north and south side, then raised in the suburbs, resided a mile from Lou Malnatis deep dish in Schaumburg Il, Barnarbys, Rosarios, pappa spizza and Rosattis in Roselle IL, I will say, this pizza is the best I have EVER tasted in the Salt Lake Valley that compares to Authentic Chicago thin crust.\r \r I make deep dish and thin and home and its great to finally go out and enjoy something that is labeled ?CHICAGO?\r \r The key to seeing is the way they cut it..not slices but squares just like its done. The sauce Taste Like Chicago, the Sausage taste like Chicago with the signature spice in it (for those that know what it is!) And the cheese taste just as good as home.\r \r Its best to go to the joint, sit and have it hot, as with Chicago pizza, the taste changes as the pizza warms down, but it still taste spectacular. I don?t know why anyone who has it would think its not good as its got more ?flavor? than any pizza joint here.\r \r Residing in Holladay, the drive is worth it, I am just happy I finally found something that?s just like back east of the Mississippi. Thanks for being here. Pros: eat it there...HOT IS THE BEST Cons: if you have never had chicago pizza..eat it there first..get a taste of it hot, then order it at home later more

Go somewhere else 3/12/2008

I decided to give this place a try since its right next to my house. Unfortunately I won?t be making that mistake again. As one of the previous comments stated the customer service was a joke. Even thought they were slow we had to finally ask for someone to help us, they were too busy laughing and talking to each other. After we received our pizza my wife asked for a side of sauce for our kids to dip the crust in, the individual at the counter stated that there was already sauce on the pizza and rolled his eyes. Once he saw that my wife wasn?t going to leave he rolled his eyes and acted put out at the request. (We eventually got the side of sauce) Finally, when we asked for a pitcher of water the person at the counter laughed and commented ?only in Utah?? Not sure what that means but the food was as good as the service, POOR. So let?s recap, poor service, poor food, & over priced. We were VERY disappointed, spend your hard earned money somewhere else. Pros: Close to home Cons: Everything else, service, food, price more

Best Super Bowl Service 2/5/2008

This place has the best PIZZA & SERVICE all around. I was able to pre-oder pizzas for my Super Bowl party. The pizzas were delivered ON-TIME & were HOT! I had friends from Chicago at the party who said ""hands down, this is real Chicago pizza"". Our favorite pizza was the DON. It had everything Chicago is known for; the homemade sausage that SHC is known for, pepperoni, mushroom and green pepper. You have to try this PIZZA!! Pros: Quality, Service, Taste, Variety more

Horrible service and delivery 1/20/2008

Ordered 4 pizzas for delivery, and 3 of them were wrong. When we called to notify them of their mistake and request the pizzas we ordered, I was told that I would recieve a slight discount on my next order and that ""we don't need your business"". Not a problem...they won't get it. Do yourself a favor, and don't visit this place... Pros: convenient location Cons: terrible customer service, bad attitude, incompetent employees... more

Good Pizza For Utah, Not Authentic 1/5/2008

This was difficult to rate for me. I gave the place 4 stars because it is pretty good compared to most Utah pizza places. However, I grew up in Chicago and I can tell you for sure this is not authentic. Especially the beef sandwiches. If you want a REAL beef sandwich, and don't want to fly to Chicago. Go to Portillos on the Internet and order the stuff. They'll send it overnight in the mail and you can make it wet in the juice just like Chitown. They even include Giardinara and stewed sweet peppers. And Turano bread. This ""sweet home chicago"" place is being run by people who have never been there. Maybe the owner has, I don't know... But he/she obviously doesn't care to deliver the real deal. I guess they figure you won't know the difference so you'll just be happy anyway. Pros: Good food compared to most Utah joints. Pictures of Chicago on the wall! Cons: Not authentic. My fellow displaced Chicagoans-- You'll be disappointed. more

Worst pizza and worst service I have ever experienced 1/1/2008

We received the wrong pizzas on New Years Eve. We called and they said they would not correct the mistake they were too busy. They offered $10 off our next order. We said that we did not want $10 we wanted the right pizzas. They said they did not need our business. We had four families in our home that will never use this company again. They will never see another dollar from me. Cons: Price, service, accuracy, delivery time more

Worst Pizza ever!!!!!!!!!! 1/1/2008

New Years Eve was a disaster. Pizza was horrible and one hour late on delivery. We dumped it and called Papa Johns. In addition the customer service was the worst we had ever experienced! Do not buy from this company. Pros: There is other competition Cons: Sweet home chicago is still in business. more

Treated horribly on New's Years Eve and told they did not need my business 12/31/2007

We ordered $60.00 worth of pizza from these guys on New Year's Eve, and two of our large pizzas were wrong. When we called them to try to get the correct pizzas sent out, they told us we got the pizzas we ordered and they were not willing to do anything about it, other than giving us $10.00 of our next order. When we told them we would not be eating the wrong pizzas and tried again to get the correct pizzas sent to us, the manager became very irate, argued with us on the phone and told us he didn't need our business. I guess that location is doing so well, they probably don't need your business either. We were loyal customers of Sweet Home Chicago, but we will never order from them again. I was shocked at the way we were treated. more

Really good but not great yet. 10/3/2007

Lots of wonderful reviews so I was looking forward to trying SHCP. We had thin crust and stuffed pizzas and a beef sandwich too. The pizzas were very good: fresh ingredients and truly Chicagoan (fennel seeds in the sausage, oregano, cut in squares, good stuff!). One problem: both pizzas were black on the bottom. This happens when flour is not cleaned from the oven shelf often enough (I'm grew up in Chicago, I worked in a great pizza place there, trust me on this...). The Italian beef sandwich was very good but no place in Chicago toasts the bun. In Chicago you'll be asked if you want it ""wet"" (lots of au ju). You do. At SHCP the order taker didn't know what I was talking about. I was taken aback when asked if I wanted cheese on the sandwich. Cheese? We're talking Chicago, not Philadelphia! Two of us wanted only water to drink. We got charged for empty cups. This is common at some fast food outlets but shouldn't happen if you aspire to be a ""real"" restaurant. Same goes for the pretend parmesan cheese in the little green packets. Yuck! The premises are clean and comfortable. We didn't get the opportunity to talk with anybody other than the order taker. SHCP is good. It has potential to be great. We'll try it again some day because I really want to be able to rate this place better than ""average"". Pros: Potential to be great. Cons: Not there yet. more

Utah's BEST Pizza, Hands down!!! 9/20/2007

If you are looking for some great pizza, Sweet Home Chicago Pizzaria is your ticket. They have the best pizza I've ever had. The homemade italian sausage is the best. My family's favorite is thier stuffed crust pizza and the italian salad. Definately worth the drive to Draper. We live in Sugarhouse and it sometimes takes us 30 minutes to get there. We love SHC pizza!!! Pros: Awesome pizza and salad!!! Cons: It's a little far. more

Best Pizza Around 9/9/2007

Oh my goodness, where to begin? I'll start with the pizza. It's amazing! The ingredients are all fresh, the cheese, the dough, the pepperoni, Everything! I love their thin crust pizza, and the stuffed is awesome to. The garlic bread is really simple, but delicious. The pizza really doesn't compare to any other pizza in the area. \r The service is wonderful, especially if you go as often as I do. The owner of the pizzeria is always around to talk to customers, and other workers are always nice. If you become a regular at Sweet Home Chicago, it comes with benefits like extra good service and great coupons in the mail.\r I really reccomend going for lunch. It is six dollars for all you can eat pizza, an unbelievable deal for the quality of food you're getting.\r My family used to live in Chicago, so I can say that this pizza is very authentic, unlike any of the other pizza in the area. And as a long time local in Draper/Sandy, I can say it is definatly the best pizza around! more

Simply delicious! 6/18/2007

I've been living in Utah for 3 1/2 years now and have been looking for good pizza since I moved here. You can either choose from the major chains or some really bad mom and pop shops... I wasn't able to find any pizza that my family liked until I found this place. Forget about ""the pie"". Some people who grew up here claim it's the best thing ever... but it really doesn't taste much better than something from Domino's.\r \r This pizza is delicious, and the sausage is the best I've ever had on a pizza. The pepperoni is very good too. If you like your pizza with everything, try the planetarium. Besides the pizza, the Italian Salad is a can't miss... it's the only salad my kids will eat!\r \r I've never had a problem with service here. There's been times when my pizza hasn't been ready when I got there, but it was never more than a few minutes later than what they told me it would be. The employees at the front counter are always sweet and accomodating. The few times they've been a little late they've offered me a drink while I waited. They even know me by name when I come in!\r \r The downside is that this place gets really busy on the weekends... there's a ton of people there and you can see the kitchen full of cooks and people answering phones. Sometimes it will be 45 minutes or an hour from the time you order, so plan ahead a little bit.\r \r This place is more expensive than a major chain, but you get what you pay for. If you want some cheap filler, Little caesars will get your family full for about $10.00. Nevermind that it tastes like cardboard. If you'd like to enjoy a nice meal and good pizza and don't mind spending a little extra for it, give this place a try. Pros: Great food, especially the sausage and salad Cons: gets very busy during weekends, but worth the wait more

Great Pizza but terrible service... 8/5/2006

Where to begin? I've been there about a dozen times. I love their stuffed pie but I have learned to NEVER get their sausage in it since it always comes out uncooked. On a normal pizza it is great though. Also watch their tendency to put canned mushrooms on the pizza when you ask for fresh.\r \r As to the service I have had the worst. They never are ready for pick-up when they say it will be (always at least 15min late and thats generous) and one time I got there to pick-up my pizzas and they told me it would be ""Just a minute more since they are almost ready"". I then saw the guy make them and put them in to bake (this is after me waiting 30+min before I went to pick them up). Well, after I watched them come out more than a half hour later he insisted mine had just taken that long to cook and had been cooking all along. I told him I had seen him make them and he proceeded to argue with me. Rule #1 never argue and get beligerant with a customer.\r \r I almost gave up on them right then but sadly they have the only good pizza in Salt lake. So while their service s-u-c-k-s (and I am usually the most easygoing guy about this) they at least have the best pizza around. My wife and her family (who visit often) are from Chicago and are true pizza fans. This is the only pizza they will eat when here. \r \r I would rate them higher if it was just on the food but the bad service experiences brings them down quite a bit. So basically they would get a 9.5 on food and a 3 on service. Pros: Awesome food, best pizza in Salt Lake Valley Cons: Service is the worst and they constantly make mistakes. Lots of employees who don't seem to care if they do a good job. more

best pizza anywhere 6/26/2006

the best pizza I've ever had... i only wish they had a location closer to where I live.. I have to drive about 30 minutes to get there, but it's worth it every time Pros: great pizza Cons: long drive.. open one closer to me! more

Finally, real pizza in Utah 6/24/2006

It is about time somebody offered some GREAT pizza here in Utah. What passes for good pizza here would be the bottom of the barrel everywhere else. We moved here a few years ago from St. Louis and tried all of the ""famous"" pizza places here. After that, we stopped eating pizza because there just wasn't anything good in the entire area. Sweet Home Chicago has fixed that problem! \r \r We usually eat there, but delivery service has been very good the few times we've used it also. If you actually think any of the big Utah pizza places are any good, you have to try these guys. They'll show you what a real pizza is all about. more
